My current main project is sci-fi mostly using old Rogue Trader era minis. Most figures have some degree of convertion or puttywork so I'll post the WIP pics here. First up a couple of minis recently finished off.
Metal heavy weapon marine with plastic missile launcher:

Converted Chainsaw warrior figure:

More stuff here. (http://amigocalledhugo.blogspot.co.uk)

Great stuff :D
cheers
James
-
Nice work!
-
Very nice indeed. :-*
-
The additions to the Chainsaw Warrior are a real improvement! He looks like a mean, grizzled bastard! lol
-
Ohh this is nice.
-
That is very nice indeed. Smooth work mate.
-
Looking forward to seeing these painted.
-
Thanks for the comments! I do need to get some more of these painted soon have so many prepp'd and ready for priming.
Got 3 dreadnoughts recently and made the first one up in the contemptor pattern with 4 bolters. There's something really satisfying about the weight of these models!

-
Wow, great conversions.
Love the Chainsaw-Warrior-one, maybe I have to do something similar with mine ;)
-
Nice putty pushing! Very clean.
-
There is something about a metal figure. Great work. I can never get the putty that smooth.
-
Ive only recently started with modelling putty and like people above have said, it is quite hard to get it that smooth. Hopefully one day haha lol
Very nice conversion work too...
-
it is quite hard to get it that smooth.
I use a mix of greenstuff and milliput which its possible to get really smooth. Would recommend it!!
Some new pics from the workbench.
Something was bugging me about the halflings rifle so I tried to add some detail to it:

Rebased a foundry swat mini and based a Brother Meredith mini. The original Meredith figure leans forward at quite an angle so I've stood him up a bit. This meant some sculpting on the right leg armour and new feet.

More figs ready for priming:

Think I've finished painting the plasma marine. My second marine painted of the current batch!

Thanks for looking!
-
HAHA WHAT?!
That fellow on the right is something else. lol lol lol
-
Interesting pj's lol. Not my cup of tea but perfectly RT.
-
Thanks for the tip about miliput and greenstuff, been using green stuff on its own until now. :)
-
Really nice paint.
-
When I bought this Brother Meredith figure I knew I'd be painting him up as a marine zombie. That got me thinking about a horde of marine zombies but the cost this mini now goes for on ebay is too much to make a this an option for me. Thought it'd be fun to cast up some myself. Hence the greenstuff body which I'll cast to make some dollies and then sculpt some variants to the pose. The gun is a converted plastic marine bolter which I'll be using on the figures. This needed to be shortened and the magazine made smaller in order for it to be more like the size of the metal bolters. I probably make the zombie heads as seperate castings in order to give more variation to the finished figures.

Hopefully these will be ready for some Halloween games of Space Crusade!!
-
That's a cracking idea and great execution 8) 8)
cheers

-
Impressive.
-
Nice!

I concur. 8)
-
Thanks for the comments! Having another look at the bolter it needed to be smaller still so trimmed the top and remodelled it. Reckon its a good match for the older bolters.
-
That's a proper bit of dedication 8)
cheers
James
-
I had hoped that I could use parts from the plastic marines straight onto the body but there is quite a noticable size difference. Couldn't even use the beakie heads so I'll have to sculpt one of those too if I need one. I reckon I might do 6 body variants and most will have the bolters so worth a bit of work early on getting the gun right. Plus I'll have a supply of bolters for future convertions!!
Been spurred on a bit by this thread and started the mould for the body dollie this evening. :)
-
Looking forward to seeing the results 8)
cheers
James
-
Great work.
-
very nice lol lol
-
Wish I had your sculpting skills! Nice paint jobs too!
-
Pretty funky paintjobs lol keep 'em coming please.
-
Have the zombie marine body moulded so can begin making the actually figures soon. Other than that a little bit of progress on the painting front with the hobbit sniper nearly finished and some work done on a robot conversion.
-
Some resin sci-fi floors I've been working on recently. Got some new pieces to cast and paint this weekend. Will be using these for some Space Crusade/hulk rpg type games. Trying to get a derelict space ship vibe with the pj's.
-
Nice.
-
More floors ready for painting! Once I have a new webstore up and running I'll be making these available to buy.
-
Really like the floors, great job.
-
These are totally funkadelic. I love the style and whimsy of them.
-
That marine wip looks great. I would love to get my hands on a set, but understand you would not care for the IP issues.
-
Thanks for the comments. Not much progress on the zombie marines at this point. Probably have something to show in a few weeks. Finished off the robot mini and started another marine though... picked yellow and white for the armour colour. Hmm yellow is tricky!
-
Some time ago - actually years ago, I built a small unit of Zombie Space Marines and used the zombie head from the plastic Hero Quest figure - see here;

At the time I though them a little strange. But obviously great minds think alike.
Keep up the good work.
Tony

I'd love to add that droid to my robot collection. Great work on that.
-
Looking good!
-
Thanks for the comments! Cast up some spawn points for the sci-fi floors. Initially thought of painting them in a metallic "aliens" style but may end up painting them up like a hardened putrid goo! Will see how the metal looks when the floors are painted.
-
Nice. 8)
-
Wow! Those floors are keen!
-
Wow! Those floors are keen!
I'm assuming that's a good thing and if so, I'll second it :D
cheers
James
-
Cheers! Well I went with the metallic effect for the spawn pits. Here are the two finished up. Think they'll be useful in a game if only to get the players worried about what may jump out!
-
Nice!
-
As usual I'm late to the party, but your greenstuff work on those RT minis is just superb!. I've always loved RT stuff, (Squats in particular) and your figs are great. Did you ever finish the Zombie marine cast-up?
-
Hasn't been much progress on the zombie marine since the floors have been taking up my time recently. Will get back onto them soon! I've changed my mind on the seperate heads idea and will just make a selection of pose variations.
-
A few recent purchases prep'd for painting.
-
Nice; look forward to seeing some paint on them.
-
Cracking thread,love your painting :-*
-
Thanks!! Spent a bit of time converting this lovely KillerB mini today. In the process of giving her a laser pistol. Think she'll make a great character figure and that her funky clothes could look pretty sci-fi.
-
Warhammer Foxy-thousand! lol
What an inspirational thread! Looking forward to seeing the fishmen and the funky lady painted up. Where did you buy your fishmen from? I saw some on eBay last night for £99 each! :o I nearly died!
Loving the floor tiles and great news about the future web shop. That big-headed droid is ace too!
-
I paid £20 for the two fishmen on ebay. £99 each sounds a bit much! :o
-
I finished the gun on Foxy and also did a bit of prep on a vintage Ral Partha robot from 1977! Lovely vintage true 25mm figure. The arm was pretty weak so I replaced the cast powerline to the gun with one made from copper wire. Added strenght to the arm as well as being thinner. The gun was pretty basic looking, like a retro hairdryer, so I added a few doodads to tech it up a bit. He's gonna be a great little robot when he's painted up.
-
Love the robot and the lady :-* Old school scifi is great :) I have a load of Citadel Spacefarers that you have inspired me to paint( well one or two anyway ;)).
-
I'm jealous! Would like a load of those old Spacefarer minis. Just recently bought one off ebay so maybe the start of a wee collection!
He's my painting table atm. Been painting the close combat marine in a yellow scheme. Not a colour I use often and tricky to get right but he's starting to get there now. Also working on this resin floating spybot. I originally made this a few years back but it never went into production.
-
A gold mine of RT goodness 8)
The yellow's looking good :)
cheers
James
-
The Spybot would work well as a space station too. How come you never released it?
-
Very nice thread. Love the flooring.
-
The Spybot would work well as a space station too. How come you never released it?
That spybot is clearly Not A Moon.
;)
-

I made it some years ago as an overseer for some smaller spybots (here) (http://starportcrash.blogspot.co.uk/2011/11/overseer-bot.html) but then I hit a production snag with the smaller bots and never took it any further. I'm going to resculpt the smaller bots now ( any make some variants) and see how they fair casting wise but the larger bot will certainly be made available.
Did a wee bit of painting last night need some tidying up..
-
Oh, that is nice! I wants one. :D
I love this thread!
-
That spybot is really cool 8) 8)
cheers
James

Nice. 8)

Finished work on this female spacefarer I think maybe her name should be Foxy Nova and since they've been pictured together alot I think the robot shall be her trusted sidekick. Gave her a holster in the end for that gunslinger type of vibe!
-
Awesome!
-
Foxy Nova is fantastic! Love the blaster.
-
Latest marine pj pretty much finished.
-
That yellow looks brilliant. And what a great face! :D
-
Very nice!
-
Foxy Nova painted yet?
Tempted the get that figure and make one of my own, but it would look a bit sh*t compared to yours!
-
Foxy Nova painted yet?
Haha the speed I paint she'll be finished sometime 2016!! Got ten prep'd figures in the queue before her although I may bump her up!
Remember this guy from the start of the thread? Well I found the propeller bit off the rocket launcher on my desk and had a change of heart. Yes it looks totally daft but it is iconic in a way. I resolved to re-attach it after filing down the fins somewhat. Changed the face a bit too... again!
-
Excellent thread.
Thanks for the tips.
-
Yes it looks totally daft but it is iconic in a way.
That sums up the whole retro/oldhammer/whatever movement right there I think! ;D
Looks good too! :)
-
Yes daft is best!
-
Probably my favorite trooper figure from the old marines is this Brother Reeves mini. Lucky I got 3 in a joblot! I've converted one into a female marine by doing a head swap with a female mini from ERM. Will paint the parts separately and glue when finished.
-
Nice work :)
-
Some painted minis for a change. Here are the completed yellow/white marine and the hobbit sniper from earlier in the thread. Also an slightly converted Ork warboss WIP.
cheers
Iain
-
Excellent work :)
That ork is one of my favourite ork models.
-
Very, very nice. :o That yellow came out great!
The female marine is top notch too. Much better than the pair of skinny bints they released back in the day. lol
-
That yellow and white marine is the nuts 8)
cheers
James

Thanks for the comments!
Took a pic of this fellow today. The body was originally a medic which I didn't care for much. Now for a while I'd wanted to put a different style of helmet on a power armour body thought I'd give it a go on this figure. Once I'd made the new helmet I decided not to glue it until I'd made a mould so I could cast it in resin. Will give me extras to play with and some for anyone else who may be interested!
-
Interesting; looks good!
-
Great work over here.
Nice paintwork and conversion.

Only just discovered this thread, but the timing could not be better as we are planning a venture into RT very soon and this is very inspirational.
:D
-
Lovely stuff! Your thread is a definite inspiration :)

Uncanny haha lol

Got the first cast of the helmet and it turned out pretty crisp.
-
Nice :)
-
Finished and based!
-
Great stuff on this thread. The Brother Reeves marine has always been one of my favorites, great headswaps on that one.
-
Nice nod to the artificer armour suits there. Nice touch with the helmet.
-
It looks great.
