Title: A unit of 28mm Copplestone barbarians
Post by: blacksmith on 11 July 2014, 05:49:50 PM
Howdy,
I just fast painted to tabletop level a unit of old Grenadier Copplestone barbarians for my WHF army. I love these figures and I think they turned out not bad and now thinking about painting a cavalry unit as well  ;D

Very nice. I have a unit of about 12 cavalry half painted as usual.....great sculpts. The Foundry Copplestone Germans and such like would work well with them.

OUTSTANDING! Your FINE brushwork & color choices gave the Old Barbaric Boys new life. The flesh tones glow. VERY WELL DONE!

You mean Germans from Foundry right? that's a good idea.

They look great. I also have a half painted unit of these on my painting table. I like what you did with the fur.

While I do have a soft spot for this era of miniatures  ;) , I have never loved those barbarians en masse as much as I do staring at your paint jobs! They look ready to cleave through anything.

Awesome, plentiful, flesh. I liked the close up shots on the blog. Some great minis to pick a Conan from!

grey fur makes greater contrast with human skin than brown one but in the end they all gone with grey.
No wolves left in many miles around ;)

Yes, they are all Conans or Cimmerians  lol
Someday they will fight against my all blonde Foundry vikings. Cimmerians vs. Vanir.

MORE!  ;D

I'm going to make an army for God of Battles (and SAGA, and probably other  systems, too) based on the 15mm versions of these, but I thnk I actually own just about enough of these to be able to field a similar unit, should I ever get around to it  lol

Really great painting there!
I have a bunch of these on the way from Forlorn Hope .I had about 100 painted years ago(when they were still lead) but sold them off.
Aren't the Foundry guys rather under fed compaired to these? I have a couple hundred Foundry Germans painted so guess I'll find out for myself ;)

I don't know. I just put a Foundry viking next to one of the Copplestone and they are same height thought the barbarian is broader and with bigger hands and sword but I think they mix fine.

I got my barbarians from Forlorn Hope today.
Blacksmith your right about the Vikings but I wouldn't mix them with the Germans, just a little too skinny for me.

Minor niggle is the cavalry only have one horse pose.I like the horse but a monopose horse for a barbarian cav unit doesn't really excite me.
Looking for horses for the rest.Funny enough I had a Perry plastic Napoleonic heavy cav horse lying around and the barbarian fits on it just right lol Might have to shave off the horse blanket and valais and greenstuff on a fur saddle

I didn't realize there were only one horse pose. I will have to think about that as like you I don't like monopose in 28mm.
Cheers,
