Fresh off the email:
I've just finished the Men at Arms for the English Army boxed set of Agincourt to Orleans set. The archers have been on our site a little longer and have now just gone into tooling.
The period, 1415-1429, as with the metal range, covers the first real full plate armour. It's a great look, being mostly rounded and 'globular'. Although I've described these as English they could be used as French too. The only differences being the English tending to fight in 'white' uncovered armour a little more more than the French. With armour styles I've tried to cover the main types used during these 14 years. Things changed quite fast especially with the basinets at this time. More plates were being added to the basic basinet with aventail until the aventail disappeared all together and you had the full great basinet. The houndskull visors also became globular during this period.
Shields for Men at Arms had more or less been dropped from use in the field as the armour became more complete, so there'll only be one on the sprue. All the visors will be separate as will the 'orle' or decorated circlet which was typically English. Two of the bodies have jupons and the other four are in 'white' armour. I've designed these so the arms from the Wars of the Roses sets should be interchangeable, the shoulders are the same width at least. So with some of the 'white' armoured bodies (i.e. the ones in the great basinets) you should be able to bridge the 1430-50s gap with the WotR arms.
There's no release date on these yet.
All the best
Alan

Looking forward to these.
Those visors remind me of the old Britain's Swoppet figures.....

Fantastic, and the separate visors etc are awesome

The sculpting is all quite literally beyond belief!! :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
I cannot wait!!!!
Great to see that some of the Wars of the Roses arms will be able to be used to create men at arms from about the 1430's-50's. Think of the armour of the mounted Dike of York figure from the Wars of the Roses range and you're getting the right idea.

Oh lordy.
Can't wait to see what they do with the French! This set seems to have been sculpted faster than any I can remember over the last couple of years- at this rate these might be available by xmas. It'll be interesting to see how fast they can pump out sets, now that they have no obligations at GW...

I think the pace they release plastic sets has more to do with Renedra's schedule than there own but we can dream!

lol I thought exactly the same thing... Showing our age, Gary ;)
(Remember those little rubbery plumes on the helmets, and the plug-in roses to go on the shields?)
These are looking like they;re going to be a simply wonderful set.
Also feels rather like they're being fast-tracked, so they may well emerge ahead of the fifth late-C15th set, the long-slated lighter cavalry box...
And great to have confirmation that these will be of a size with the other medieval sets allowing even more mixing and matching for the converter :)

Ah! Swoppets! They are responsible for my interest in the Wars of the Roses at its source. lol
The potential for these figures is incredible... even in the 1480s there would still be guys wandering around in 'old armour'... okay maybe the 'hound-faced' types might be a vast stretch, but the later types have their uses still.
With a suit of armour costing approximately the same in relation as a new Jaguar car nowadays, not everyone could afford to keep up with the Beauforts. Maybe a little wasteful in terms of figures gained versus figures unusable perhaps, but hey!
;)

Don't worry, I'll take the rest of the old-fashioned ones!

Their 100YW stuff is looking to be the best perry set yet - and I am in no way biased by my general love for medieval wargaming in this ;)

I was thinking this myself despite not having an interest in the HYW itself. Will be very interested to see what the French set/sets contain. If they end up covering most of the basic troop types I can see myself starting yet another gaming period.

Probably Crossbowmen, Lighter Armoured men at arms and more 'knightly' looking men at arms in tabards.
That's my guess. Very typical of a French army of the period other then they would have fielded Mounted Men at Arms. Maybe there will be a Mounted Men at Arms boxed set too???? who knows at this stage.....

Also the tubular metal scabbards for swords.
Mounted knights at 12 shillings and sixpence put them out of my league.
I think the crossbowman was my favourite.

Good God yes! I'd forgotten all about those! Weren't they in red and silver hoops? Must be where I subliminally got my ideas for colouring-in my Perry WOTR figures from ;)
