Are they all scratch built ?

Yes, some have bits and bobs from model kits (mainly 1/700 ships) but the rest is plasticard, wire, putty and glue!  :D

Further to the far better than expected success of my Star Wars game "Escape from Hoth", I've been looking at a small expansion to my fleet.

Here is the inspiration
(http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag56/kevinlawless1066/PCL27orAClassFreighter300m_zps9b2e1f27.jpg~original) (http://s1298.photobucket.com/user/kevinlawless1066/media/PCL27orAClassFreighter300m_zps9b2e1f27.jpg.html)

The first pass, you can see how far I've gotten
(http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag56/kevinlawless1066/IMG_20141030_202629586_HDR_zps28fe83e1.jpg~original) (http://s1298.photobucket.com/user/kevinlawless1066/media/IMG_20141030_202629586_HDR_zps28fe83e1.jpg.html)

And now some more, it's really taking shape now and jumping out at you
(http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag56/kevinlawless1066/IMG_20141030_202712421_HDR_zpsb3c25b66.jpg~original) (http://s1298.photobucket.com/user/kevinlawless1066/media/IMG_20141030_202712421_HDR_zpsb3c25b66.jpg.html)

(http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag56/kevinlawless1066/IMG_20141030_202747690_zpsf27aea1e.jpg~original) (http://s1298.photobucket.com/user/kevinlawless1066/media/IMG_20141030_202747690_zpsf27aea1e.jpg.html)

(http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag56/kevinlawless1066/IMG_20141030_204055179_zps2f4afee7.jpg~original) (http://s1298.photobucket.com/user/kevinlawless1066/media/IMG_20141030_204055179_zps2f4afee7.jpg.html)

The shape is now building up
(http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag56/kevinlawless1066/IMG_20141030_215724589_zps77392b69.jpg~original) (http://s1298.photobucket.com/user/kevinlawless1066/media/IMG_20141030_215724589_zps77392b69.jpg.html)

Slap those greeblies on, it is Star Wars after all
(http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag56/kevinlawless1066/IMG_20141103_201207505_zps404db954.jpg~original) (http://s1298.photobucket.com/user/kevinlawless1066/media/IMG_20141103_201207505_zps404db954.jpg.html)

Starting on the engineering detailing
(http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag56/kevinlawless1066/IMG_20141103_201221071_zps977e2303.jpg~original) (http://s1298.photobucket.com/user/kevinlawless1066/media/IMG_20141103_201221071_zps977e2303.jpg.html)

Some shinies on the front now
(http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag56/kevinlawless1066/IMG_20141106_211658347_zpsb142f74c.jpg~original) (http://s1298.photobucket.com/user/kevinlawless1066/media/IMG_20141106_211658347_zpsb142f74c.jpg.html)

More to follow as I tinker along

I have not seen a picture of the Wild Karrde before.
Where is that from?

It's a concept sketch by a french artist called Fred Blanchard for the Heir to the Empire series of comics, it's a PCL27 freighter.

Very Star Wars but that's not the Wild Karrde, it should be an Action VI transport (if I remember correctly).

Looking good though  8)

cheers

This concept ship was done before the Karrde was defined as an Action VI and, also, before the shape of an Action VI was conceived.
Fred had said that this was supposed to be an Imperial version of the Rebel Transport so he called it the Imperial Tuna.  ;D

As several people have said, that's not an Action VI, but that transport you're building does appear in Blanchard & Vatine's Heir to the Empire comic. Spoiler below:

It's used as a bulk transport flown in as a ruse by Thrawn, after which it bursts open to reveal a it was secretly carrying several squadrons of TIEs.

The corellian Action IV had its 1st appearance at The Rebel Alliance Sourcebook edited by West End Games in 1994. anyway it's an awesome concept , really SW feeling. I wish i could replicate your amazing work ;)

Just a bit of an update...

Here is the upderside of the bow, showing the tiny bridge in the bottom middle as a lump of beige
(http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag56/kevinlawless1066/IMG_20141125_181119363_zps97d1c260.jpg~original) (http://s1298.photobucket.com/user/kevinlawless1066/media/IMG_20141125_181119363_zps97d1c260.jpg.html)

The right way up, showing the cargo mostly in place.  Some detail, some blanks to be filled
(http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag56/kevinlawless1066/IMG_20141125_181142025_zpsa905ab0e.jpg~original) (http://s1298.photobucket.com/user/kevinlawless1066/media/IMG_20141125_181142025_zpsa905ab0e.jpg.html)

A bit of the rear, a couple of knocked up engines and worky bits
(http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag56/kevinlawless1066/IMG_20141125_181300532_zps365ca0aa.jpg~original) (http://s1298.photobucket.com/user/kevinlawless1066/media/IMG_20141125_181300532_zps365ca0aa.jpg.html)

Engine detail
(http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag56/kevinlawless1066/IMG_20141125_181316032_zps4cf93cee.jpg~original) (http://s1298.photobucket.com/user/kevinlawless1066/media/IMG_20141125_181316032_zps4cf93cee.jpg.html)

A bit of a size comparison with the Neb B
(http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag56/kevinlawless1066/IMG_20141125_181524988_zps45746b74.jpg~original) (http://s1298.photobucket.com/user/kevinlawless1066/media/IMG_20141125_181524988_zps45746b74.jpg.html)

There is a tiny bit of something in the last photo. (Sensible) ship naming rights go to the first to spot it!

Next update.

Here's a little addition I put together to make some objectives and scenery
(http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag56/kevinlawless1066/IMG_20150102_212443086_zpsda36e255.jpg~original) (http://s1298.photobucket.com/user/kevinlawless1066/media/IMG_20150102_212443086_zpsda36e255.jpg.html)

Then lawks, wot a larf, I went and made a mold
(http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag56/kevinlawless1066/IMG_20150102_212502783_zps08d74617.jpg~original) (http://s1298.photobucket.com/user/kevinlawless1066/media/IMG_20150102_212502783_zps08d74617.jpg.html)

And cast some
(http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag56/kevinlawless1066/IMG_20150102_212524409_zps740d11d7.jpg~original) (http://s1298.photobucket.com/user/kevinlawless1066/media/IMG_20150102_212524409_zps740d11d7.jpg.html)

Not wanting to waste the mojo I roughed out this
(http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag56/kevinlawless1066/IMG_20150102_212603841_zpscd6d4632.jpg~original) (http://s1298.photobucket.com/user/kevinlawless1066/media/IMG_20150102_212603841_zpscd6d4632.jpg.html)

A dash of engines
(http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag56/kevinlawless1066/IMG_20150102_212616734_zps01d5cbda.jpg~original) (http://s1298.photobucket.com/user/kevinlawless1066/media/IMG_20150102_212616734_zps01d5cbda.jpg.html)

And voila, another ship
(http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag56/kevinlawless1066/IMG_20150102_212724616_zps55931826.jpg~original) (http://s1298.photobucket.com/user/kevinlawless1066/media/IMG_20150102_212724616_zps55931826.jpg.html)

Here's the transport fleet so far...
(http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag56/kevinlawless1066/IMG_20150102_213009030_zpsf75220b3.jpg~original) (http://s1298.photobucket.com/user/kevinlawless1066/media/IMG_20150102_213009030_zpsf75220b3.jpg.html)

With a couple of freighters and such knocked up from the scraps pile
(http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag56/kevinlawless1066/IMG_20150102_213057103_zpse903ca0d.jpg~original) (http://s1298.photobucket.com/user/kevinlawless1066/media/IMG_20150102_213057103_zpse903ca0d.jpg.html)

T'other side
(http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag56/kevinlawless1066/IMG_20150102_213120203_zpsfa33f74f.jpg~original) (http://s1298.photobucket.com/user/kevinlawless1066/media/IMG_20150102_213120203_zpsfa33f74f.jpg.html)

I'll throw some undercoat on them at some point.

Then on to the Quasar Fire cruiser and something else as I tend to make two or three ships side by side to break the monotony of glueing little bits to other little bits.

It's a true Star Wars ship (but love the Ice Pirates reference!  :D I thought I was the only one who remembered it.)

Anyone who has played the old TIE Fighter or X Wing games should recognise it!

Dont know the Ice Pirates but I can see the BSG connection. Another top drawer sci-fi when it comes to 'proper' spaceships.

These are fantastic. I always like it when people make their own minis, and you've really nailed the old-school ILM aesthetic with your detailing.

It seems that Star Wars is getting a bit popular again so here is a small update from the Damasian Shipyards.

I'll start with a snapshot of the latest chaos.  There are a few new light freighters and a couple of fighters about the place.  It's like the shipyards are gearing up for something?
I think there should be:
3 x Lambda shuttles
1 x BFF Freighter
1 x YV-666
1 x YV-31
1 x YV-
1 x YT-2000
3 x YT-2400
1 x YT-1150
1 squadron each of A, B, X, Y
1 Squadron each of TIE ln, Interceptor, Advanced, Bomber
1 x J Type Nubian Barge
1 x Quasar Fire class
1 x PCL 27 Freighter
I've probably missed something as the desk is a bit of a mess.  o_o
(Any fuzzy photos are a result of my eyesight!)
(http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag56/kevinlawless1066/IMG_20150510_211421207_HDR_zpstwg9kfdi.jpg~original) (http://s1298.photobucket.com/user/kevinlawless1066/media/IMG_20150510_211421207_HDR_zpstwg9kfdi.jpg.html)

Here's an understated civilian vessel off the lines.

Thanks chaps.

Uti,
If you mean the big white triangle, that's a Quasar Fire class bulk cruiser that's ongoing.  I have a couple of ideas for space stations and landing platforms but they're on the back burner.

Paul,
The PCL 27 rusty one back right is about 30cm long, the white Quasar Fire back left is 35cm long, 35cm wide.

Having a minor quandary at the moment as I'm finding it hard to define the work I'm doing on the ships.  I keep stopping and asking myself if I am creating wargame miniatures to game with, or am I creating fine detail models that will (at some point) be played with?

Where does the detail stop and figurine practicality begin?  :?

Whether for display or gaming (hopefully for the latter, as they deserve to be outed in the (star) fields of battle), they are pure eye candy.

My plan will be to keep taking them to the doctors/opticians etc, and encouraging gym membership.  If they ask why, show them the organ donor card I've pre-filled out in their names and how they can get along fine with just one kidney, right?  :D :D

I'm sure if she got near the ships she would be a 'star' destroyer, or more likely a Sarlacc in due course.

Of course, I've now just measured her and she is a Strike class cruiser.  :D

You could build it at the game surface.

It's not for Mason, it's just that he was whinging I wan't making enough.  ;D

Now you have nowhere to go but a Star Destroyer!

That would be fun but at 1.6 meters it would be an unwieldy thing so I might look at some stuff a bit smaller first.  Plus, big ships means more fighters, as I don't want a bunch of big lumps and no hero fighters to go round.

Just need to actually play some games now and test the rules expansion for fleet actions.

OK, here's the next one, a little vignette.

A small courier getting checked out and the pilot chatting to his R2 unit.

Here is a close up of the pilot and astromech.  Please be kind as the pilot is my first full greenstuff sculpt and everything is in scale so the R2 is less than 1mm tall.  ;D

Just a few more bits and crew to add and to finish the ship itself and then figure out what the next project will be.

Here's the next ship with a bit of a grey undercoat and white overspray for some basic definition.  I've also slotted in the docking bay and added a couple of previously seen ships for scale and composition in some of the pictures.

Here's the basic shot.

Ta
Some references show angles, some show curves, but I'm taking each ship as a unique project and not making carbon copies of existing designs.  So no Falcons, millennial or otherwise, etc.

Now onto dirtying a clean ship and also the next project, whatever that will be? Dunno.

Here's the painted update.

A weathered but servicable cargo area.

The weathered top with corporate logo.

Dirty side view.

The worky end with lots of subtle shading and weathering that doesn't show up at all.  :?

Obligatory pretty shot.

And finally, a better picture of certain protocol droid and companion going back to his first job of programming binary load lifters.

(http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag56/kevinlawless1066/PICT0061_zpsybxnshjc.jpg~original) (http://s1298.photobucket.com/user/kevinlawless1066/media/PICT0061_zpsybxnshjc.jpg.html)

so, what's next I hear you cry?!  Well, not sure really.  I have the following list of ships I really like:

Dreadnought
Victory
Republic Cruiser
Pelta class
Action VI
Correllian Gunship
Another Correllian Corvette
Strike class
Imperial Escort Carrier
Rebel Assault Frigate
MC-30
Space Station
Carrack
Assassin Corvette
Bulk Cruiser
Interdictor
Munificent

Any preference or other suggestions (no, I'm not doing a Death Star, or an Executor, or an Eclipse, or anything else over a meter long.  Paul worries for my sanity enough as it is and before anyone goes 'awww, why not  ???', the Executor would be 19 meters long in scale and I'd need to hire out the Excel Centre to play with it. :P)

Here's an update of another finished (I say finished, but I just reached the point where I had to put the brush down) ship/objective marker/whatever.

And here is the heavy cargo section with shuttles and the Captain's launch under cover at the back

(http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag56/kevinlawless1066/PICT0035_zpsp1cxf3o6.jpg) (http://s1298.photobucket.com/user/kevinlawless1066/media/PICT0035_zpsp1cxf3o6.jpg.html)

Those are some shuttles, as they are *Darts* and only seat one (1), while your ship's captain has a "launch" that depending upon the variant will deliver a whole faceful of torpedoes or a lethal barrage of high energy laser bolts, a pulsing stream of destructive hypercharged ion particles, or a fusillade of charged particle beams if the unlucky schlub gets on the *Salamander's* six!  :D

Love to see our minis repurposed so well! The carrier looks like it would be a real crowd draw as a centerpiece in a game! Excellent work. :D

Of course, a scrappy freighter would be just as at home in such an environment, we have a scanning crew ready!

Any ideas as to where this will go?  ??? ::)

I just use a fresh scalpel blade (10A) and a steel rule and I line up my right angles on my cutting mat grid, that's it really.  I also sometimes use a North West Short Line chopper for repeated cuts on small stuff.

Here's the start of the next ship from the Storringteen Shipyards done over a few evenings so far.

I started with a basic spine and added a few ribs to block out some of the shape.

(http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag56/kevinlawless1066/PICT0064_zpss8pejiy7.jpg~original) (http://s1298.photobucket.com/user/kevinlawless1066/media/PICT0064_zpss8pejiy7.jpg.html)

Here's some of the ribs getting filled out a bit, bringing in the shape some more.

(http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag56/kevinlawless1066/PICT0065_zpsosqklsyt.jpg~original) (http://s1298.photobucket.com/user/kevinlawless1066/media/PICT0065_zpsosqklsyt.jpg.html)

A lot more blocking in to fill the gaps, working out where some of the more interesting details can go.

(http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag56/kevinlawless1066/PICT0073_zpsqxwgcvab.jpg~original) (http://s1298.photobucket.com/user/kevinlawless1066/media/PICT0073_zpsqxwgcvab.jpg.html)

Roughing out the engines.

I've got a few bits all ready to go but I still have a lot more work to do on the basic body before I can indulge in all the fun gribbly bits.  :D

The shuttle bay was, as they say, a red herring and will fit into the port side of the ship, TIE launch racks are on the starboard side.

Also, the first Death Star would be 120 meters across, so no.  :P

Loronar did build the Strike class, but to Imperial spec, so things like shuttle bays and such would be standardised but propulsion and bridges, sensor domes, etc, would be different from Kuat designs.

Thanks Paul. :D  I'd dearly love to make one in 28mm scale but I'd have to have a really, really, good reason to as I don't have enough room for something I can't use.  It'd be fun just isn't enough when space and costs are at a premium.  :?

Right, here's the next bit of an update.

I've skinned most of the superstructure, tinkered with some engines but not applied them yet, and worked out some of the detail.

Here's the ship with most of the skin applied and the TIE quick launch rails.  If anyone is interested, the ribs and shape have been 1mm sheet styrene and the skin is 0.5mm styrene.

Here's the docking bay on the port side.

Close up of the TIE launch rails and a flight of TIE's ready to launch.

That's some nice plasticard work. How do you get it to hold its form so well?

Would you say it's... ludicrous?

No, it was jammed.  :D ;D

That's some nice plasticard work. How do you get it to hold its form so well?

The ribs are 1mm thick and I just use a sheet of 0.5, keep it bigger than the final shape, hold it over the form and use a light underneath to mark the touching points and then cut to shape.  Each curve is only in two planes though so it's easy to bend round and glue.  ;)

Also, always use a sharp scalpel.  I'm cutting enough at the moment that I replace the blade every other day.

If anyone is interested, I get my 1mm and 0,5mm sheet in about A3 size for less than £2 per sheet from:

Despite my laptop dying and having no idea how an I Pad works, I have managed to get a couple of new photos up.

Here's a quick shot of the main hull with lots of detail you can't see.

So, the belly of the beast.

Firstly, I have added some more surface detailing to break up the larger areas and I've added the sensor domes for some classic flavour.

(http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag56/kevinlawless1066/WIN_20160412_204735_zpskb9xscht.jpg~original) (http://s1298.photobucket.com/user/kevinlawless1066/media/WIN_20160412_204735_zpskb9xscht.jpg.html)

(http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag56/kevinlawless1066/WIN_20160412_204831_zpssqyslewc.jpg~original) (http://s1298.photobucket.com/user/kevinlawless1066/media/WIN_20160412_204831_zpssqyslewc.jpg.html)

Here is the engine underside minus main engines.

(http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag56/kevinlawless1066/WIN_20160412_204939_zpsdacak4kq.jpg~original) (http://s1298.photobucket.com/user/kevinlawless1066/media/WIN_20160412_204939_zpsdacak4kq.jpg.html)

And now with engines roughly in place.

(http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag56/kevinlawless1066/WIN_20160412_205021_zpsixz3muse.jpg~original) (http://s1298.photobucket.com/user/kevinlawless1066/media/WIN_20160412_205021_zpsixz3muse.jpg.html)

Here are the main power plant reactors needing a lot more work.

(http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag56/kevinlawless1066/WIN_20160412_205049_zpsmamvbhye.jpg~original) (http://s1298.photobucket.com/user/kevinlawless1066/media/WIN_20160412_205049_zpsmamvbhye.jpg.html)

And here is the last main area for detailing and bulking out.

(http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag56/kevinlawless1066/WIN_20160412_205055_zpsoboj1ka3.jpg~original) (http://s1298.photobucket.com/user/kevinlawless1066/media/WIN_20160412_205055_zpsoboj1ka3.jpg.html)

Last, but not least is the nose underside with some representative gun placements.

(http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag56/kevinlawless1066/WIN_20160412_205102_zpszuvhmscf.jpg~original) (http://s1298.photobucket.com/user/kevinlawless1066/media/WIN_20160412_205102_zpszuvhmscf.jpg.html)

That's it so far but I have gone and bought shares in Plastruct to ease the financial burden of this particular madness.  ;D ;D :D

Now I'm going to watch the Rogue One trailer again to get some ideas on the new ships. ;D :D

Here's a quick paint job to split up my work from basing and sticking bits of plastic together.  The ship is made up of some scraps and resin casts from my other transport that are just lying around.

After a long hiatus and the usual 'stuff' that happens in life, here is a little update.

The starboard side showing the TIE launch rails and recovery bay.

Now a small size comparison.

Nestled in for 'aggressive negotiations'.

So, here is where I fully declare my insanity.... ;D

Here is a single 1/1000 TIE Advanced...

...and HERE is where I have added a fully lit up engine system...

...which is very hard to see, so I turned off the desk lamp.

So wrap me up, give me the one size jacket and place me gently in a padded room.  I'm bonkers.

Impressive......most impressive!

Do Ties actually have lit up engines though? I know X-wings and Star Destroyers do but I don't remember lights on Tie Fighters! :?

This, coming from the man that pushed me over the edge in the first place! I know you are fitting sound into your Neb-b. I'm waiting on you to do an X Wing with moving s-foils at this scale.  :P

Most impressive.

You might have lights in your TIE fighter and James may have sounds in his Nebulon B but my quadjumper WIP still smells of shampoo and conditioner.  ;D

You are both certified!

And very skilled.
