Title: "Realistic" thieves?
Post by: Psychlic Bob on 27 July 2014, 11:24:46 AM
I am looking for 28mm male and female thief figures that are in realistic poses and not in the "hooker" or assassin styles.
Late medieval/early renaissance period clothing. Civilians with knives would be good.

Foundry have a few but having to buy sets gets a little expensive.

Regards

Yeah, Otherworld Miniatures makes really good thieves (you can get enough models for a whole warband).

Citadel used to make some nice thieves back in the 80's. You can still track them down on eBay. The two on the left of this picture came from this range:

Thanks for the suggestions MiS and J.

Are the Otherworld minis "heroic" 28mm?

I am always looking for old stuff on e-Bay it seems to go for silly money though.

Try Reaper and Iron wind metals.  Iron wind are mostly old 25mm but some are really nice.

I just meaured the Otherworld figures in the picture.
All are measured from sole of foot to top of head.
The Cleric is 29mm
The Wizard is 30mm
The Assasin is a tall chap - he is 34 mm.
The Male Thief is bent over so difficul to judge.
The Female Thief is also about 30mm if she was stood straight up.

My Otherworld adventurers don't look out of place next to the old Citadel miniatures I also use. They're good chunky Kev Adams sculpts, and the females are nicely proportionate to the males, being slighter and marginally shorter.

Very nice but makes Reaper look medium priced.

Really? Otherworld human minis are £5. Reaper thieves are around that price too, if not more.

Joao

We clearly are looking at different thieves.

Edit:  from a currency convertor - 5 GBP = 8.49 U$D.

And even less cost:  https://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/Bones%20(Thief,%20Rogue)

I think that the landed price of Reaper metals in the UK is more than Otherworld but the reverse is true for US customers.
I find this happens a lot.

Hi Glenn,

Thanks for the links. Here in the UK, Reaper (metal) figures usually range between £5 and £8. Their Bones range is definitely more affordable, but I haven't seen them in the flesh, so I cannot rate the quality. Any feedback on that?

Thanks,

Joao

I have painted a few Bones figures.
They are very good for large Monsters.
For character figures, I think that I would still prefer metal.

Here are some Reaper Bones Monsters with metal Otherworld characers.

You might find a couple of figures here (http://www.forlornhopegames.co.uk/fantasy-role-playing/category/122-adventurers). We have a few left that would probably suit.

:o  Wow!  I was not aware of that.  Thanks to you and Mick in Switzerland for a bit of international economic education.

I have some Bones gnomes/dwarf figures.  Have not painted any yet.  It is strange to hold the figures and not anticipate them 'floating away' after all these years of lead/pewter.  Somehow they "feel" lighter than the old ESCI figures although I know they are not.

I need to paint and photograph some to share.  Better yet, find some done by good painters (I like my figures but I make no efforts to paint them as museum pieces.)   ;)

Gracias,

Glenn

After some turning of gears mentally I can see that as possible due to postage and other 'governmental influences' today.

I have these two fellows from Reaper and they're rather nice (not my paint job or photo just a coincidence that reaper have placed them in the same photo)

I also think some of the Otherworld henchmen could make excellent thief types especially this chap:

BRU-69 Thugs are more thief than assassin, good find.   :)

Now I nee to convert all my 25/28/30/etc. figures to 15/18 mm...  :o   :-*   8)

May I suggest 'Bloddwyn' from my new range, Bolt Thrower Miniatures. She could probably do depending on exactly what you wanted.

I've also got some of the Reaper Bones figures (elves) but I haven't yet painted them. They are for bloodbowl so will need som converting first. I'll let you know what they turn out like though.

RBG also have several minis that would make great thieves, although they may be a bit on the small side next other 28mm heroics

Reaper do a set of bandits that came with a campfire.

Couple of these peasants from Perry's HYW range would work nicely, with the addition of a knife or two perhaps.
