Title: Warlord PC Dogberry Miniature
Post by: Kommando_J on 27 July 2014, 11:50:29 PM
Surprised nobody has mentioned this yet, I know it's now out of stock, but did anyone else get this?

http://www.warlordgames.com/special-pc-dogberry-and-dick-winters/

Seems like he'd be perfect for VBCW, with Dad's Army and this it's jice to see warlord turning their talents to more ''character'' miniatures.

This has been covered in at least two threads!  :-*

But £10 for a 28mm figure is pushing the boundaries......

That was the Dick Winter miniature, the Dogberry one is £8.00 and hasn't been mentioned yet.

Is it just me, or does PC Dogberry look far more Victorian than anything else?

Some of you guys see far more Interwar British photos than me, so I'll bow to your experience, but all the pics of '30s coppers I've seen are clean-shaven or with a light moustache.

Until very recently ('80s+) police dress and grooming regs were very similar to the army's and while beards were allowed (unlike the army), they would have to be kept neatly trimmed. I would imagine that a 'Kitchener tache' might be more appropriate for a long-serving officer in any case, but the 'wild man of the Hebrides' look?

These "exclusive" miniatures put me off. Beside the very high price £8, why not continuing to sell it. They have the mould  ???

Agreed on all counts.   At the risk of repeating the point, the Winters figure is now on ebay for 50 and 60 bucks...  :(

Really...is anyone actually buying them? Might bung mine on as i will only de-value it by painting it haha.

I think the 'Dick' figure was commissioned by HMGS, who let Warlord cast some off for sale to cover some costs (or whatever) and then destroyed the mould. In that context and within whatever terms were agreed, clearly costs of sculpting and mould making would not be recovered on such a short run... hence the price tag.

I would not pay that much for a figure, but if I was offered an 'exclusive', I would expect it to be just that, rather than just a freebie that was also available for sale.

It's a sort of damned if you do, damned if you don't situation. Of course you might argue (true or false) that those buying them are financing (in whole or in part) the ones given away free.

It seems I am the only one that like the Dogberry mini and the fact that warlord is ding more characterful 'one off' minis,

Personally I see him as a wild-eyed old vet, living out his days as the policeman of a tiny village/hamlet his job mostly ceremonial due to lack of crime, then he springs into action to rally the locals against whatever.

The PC is good fun (but that price tag!) but you could probably make the Dick with near any other US lieutenant and only the tiniest amount of modification, if any.

But unless I'm mistaken it's too late for any of us to get Mr. Dogberry? It appears Warlord's games' day has already passed? Time to go fishing in the Bazaar I guess  :?

The strange thing is why anyone, after paying for the sculpt, would destroy the mould?  o_o

I can't say I like the look of the Dogberry mini much.  There seems to be something off about the arms and shoulders.  That's been the case with quite a few recent Warlord minis, including the Dad's Army range.

And £8?  I'm not usually one to cavil about price - everyone is capable of forming their own view about how much they are prepared to pay for something.  However, in this case, not only is it an indifferent sculpt, but the subject is far from unique.   Artizan does about a dozen different armed WW2 police for £2.20 each and every one looks like a better mini to me.

I have the Artizan ones on order. I just like the look of Dogberry.

Same he looks like some old bluffer that fought in the wars and now spends his time chasing apple scrumpers until called back into action!

You've pretty much summed up the current BA range for me... it's like they've allowed a lot of mongrels and strays into Crufts, alongside the pedigree animals.

I don't dislike him as such, I just don't see him as what he is stated to be.  :)

But I think this is also different than destroying the Master.  I'd imagine they have the original sculpt that they paid for and maybe can reissue in the future.  In any event, I have to be honest, I like the PC, he just fits the stereotype in my Yank mind, but the Winters is SO unremarkable, it seems effortless to proxy.  You can get an entire Artizan Command blister for less than 10GBP...

Yeah the Winters sculpt isn't even good it looks nothing like Dick Winters or Damian Lewis.
