I am mostly Rogue Trader oriented, but I guess all over here can be used for different settings ;).
First of all, I realize I hadn't shown Akula's wonderful not-Dune guys, which I'm using as guild masters/ local nobility/ whatever:

http://oldschoolworkshop.blogspot.com.es/2014/07/sci-fi-civilians.html
(BTW, size comparison shot with a Forge World Space Marine)
Now I'm adding a character for urban scenarios, an outlaw on the run, trying to escape from the Arbites/rival gangs through the crowded streets.
I used a Zombicide runner, a Hasslefree head and some green stuff:
I was aiming for something 'not too much', I mean, nothing gothic, no skulls... Nothing too GW-oriented, but back to the roots. I was rather looking for a more generic, flexible approach, something like Blade Runner or so.
Weapons were an issue. GW guns are way too oversized for this model, they look ridiculously big in his hands. But I needed to relate the mini somehow to Warhammer, so I used a laspistol for the hand closer to the body and a regular gun for the one that attracts the eye attention:
For the same warhammerization purpose I chose a sword, but I'm afraid once again it's totally oversized.
So this is it, the project grows...
http://oldschoolworkshop.blogspot.com.es/2014/07/brent-beronis-outlaw.html
I now have some Arbites, an outlaw, a few citizens... This could somehow turn into a RT scenario... ;) (more stuff needed, of course, but I'm on it!)
-
I like that, must admit the futuristic got thread, got me thinking about either a game of thrones hive or logans world senario
-
Wow!! :-*
Loving those nobles/guildmasters civilians - very cool.
Your conversion is awesome too!
-
Very nice and a great conversion.
-
I am so jealous. I missed the civilians when Akula did his project and I am always on the lookout for guys like these. Very nicely painted.
Maj Guiscard
-
Great ideas, I love the variety you achieved on the Dune civilians.

Will the civilians not be part of the range under the new ownership?
-
Thank you all, glad you like them!
Will the civilians not be part of the range under the new ownership?
I believe so, but I have no actual info on that, sorry :?
-
Another guy, now from the Heresy ranges. I love the pose and the general aspect of the mini, as soon as I saw it I knew I wanted that guy:
The only addition is a sword, the mini looked so good to me that I didn't want any conversion work on it. I will be using him as a bounty hunter, but I guess the mini also works as another outlaw, hired muscle, bodyguard or whatever.
http://oldschoolworkshop.blogspot.es/2014/08/orpheus-khaled-bounty-hunter.html?m=0
I really do need to build up some urban scenery!!
-
That is a nice miniature, :)
-
Great to see some civvies, and well painted ones at that.
Both futuristic gunslingers look awesome, I can see them shooting at each other, the first one dashing away and sending some lead towards the other guy who is taking his time for good aimed shot. Excellent :D

Almost has a nikolai dante look to it, which is great :)
-
Civvies for any period are always great to see. I like the not-Dune fellows (and fellowesses) and they rather remind me that I've been trying to get hold of a 1986 Citadel Paranoia mini - can't even remember what it's called now, 'High Programmer' I think - to act as a planetary governor or government official when I need a 'package' to be escorted/rescued in my sci-fi games.
There some excellently-painted examples of a great-looking range here - I hope it's available again soon!
-
I have added a new civilian to my ranges :). And the best part is that I haven't even done it! ;D
I'll explain: Whiskey Priest from The Leadpile (http://theleadpile.blogspot.co.uk/) made a contest to celebrate his 100 followers... and I happened to win! :) The prize was a custom mini for whatever project the winner currently had, so he gently made this wonderful adventurer for me:
He is making new friends...
And getting to know the neighbourhood
(http://i61.tinypic.com/148ps1f.jpg)
I love the mini; in fact I'm thinking of adding some kind of vehicle, something that may fit in with the personality of the guy...
Mr. Whiskey Priest also sent me these two beauties o_o:
I'm not sure if the tavern I have is big enough to put them in or if that may sacrifice too much space.
So I'm considering about the possibility of creating a whole arcade machines place, some kind of 'Flynn's' from Tron ;)
All ideas are most welcome!
http://oldschoolworkshop.blogspot.com.es/2014/10/leadpiles-prize-kholeen-m-ooray.html?m=0
PS: Your minis are welcome too! :D
-
Both my buildings for my urban RT project look too lonely, business need to be attended! So I got two minis from Otherworld and made some arrangements.
First of all, the bartender, Thonvald Callmenger:
As the bar lacked a draught tap, the barman needs to take a beer dispenser on his back :D:
Besides, The Sparklin' Pulsar was in severe need of goods, i.e., bottles! ;)
On the other hand, the... 'limited distribution items' shop also needed someone to be in charge:
The misterious lady only known as Mama Balaklava is told to have been a Technovice, or maybe even a Techpriestess, depending on who tells the story, before she delved into forbidden technologies and was banned from the Cult of Mars.
I added her some bionic implants and a servoskull (which I call Murray-X after Murray, the evil skull seeking for world domination from the Monkey Island games  )
This shop now needs some bionic cats all over...
http://oldschoolworkshop.blogspot.com.es/2014/10/were-open-for-business.html
There are more civilians on the workbench, hopefully after the weekend I'll be able to show them :)
-
Fucking ace, Suber! :-*
It's amazing what a few cybernetic implants can do. :)
-
Really brilliant work. I'm very impressed at how you re-imagine some of these figures.
-
Great characters. I find it amusing that the outlaw looks very much like Kal Jericho though yours is a greater looking version.
-
Nice work!
-
Thank you! Now I have a problem, this is getting out of control! Can't stop! :D
I got another bunch of civilians for my settings. First of all a Navigator, for any respectable project must have at least one :P
(http://i59.tinypic.com/213k5yx.jpg)
A Space Pirate, wanderer adventurer, you can never have enough of those:
This one will be some kind of underhive low class nomad. Or something. The kind of wild hunter coming to town to get food, kidnap children or get any kind of prey he can.
This merchant by Reaper had also potential for me. I added some greenstuff to the monkey so now it's a cyberpet. Some additional stuff is to be added here, but I won't spoil the surprise for now... ;)
This looks like the equivalent to that mini, but for sci-fi settings :D. Too tempting to let it go:
Finally, this one is definitely out of place within this bunch, but hey, it's what I painted. EM4 'brainfreezer'. I might have to look for a suitable creature within the RT bestiary ;)
I've developed these characters a little bit on the blog here:
http://oldschoolworkshop.blogspot.com.es/2014/11/a-fistful-of-slumdwellers.html?m=0
Still have some silly ideas for new civilians, but now my attention must turn on scenery again... ;)
-
Great stuff. 8)
-
Great stuff. 8)
What he said!
Your characters are full of, well, character :)
-
Interesting project you've got going on there - Mama Balaklava is a brilliant name too lol
-
This is all pretty cool.
-
You did great conversions on these civilians.
-
Thank you! I'm really glad you like them :) I'll try to avoid this to escape off my hands, but silly ideas keep coming to my head! ;D
-
Love all the new additions.
The conversions are all great and add a whole individual element to your gaming.
Bravo!
:-* 8) :-*
-
Great looking stuff and brilliant conversion work. Even those slight additions of a green stuffed bionic eye and a bit of tubing really change a model into something very different.
-
Thank you very much!
In the meantime, let me bring some new WIP stuff. ;)
The merchant needed some additions, sooo I found this:
'What the frak?' would be a proper question, but let me explain... I thought that the guy needed to look like a pedlar, like all those characters in the old Western movies, errant from village to village, selling weird cheap stuff or miracolous elixirs... that kind of thing, but with that ethnical appearance (and a RT touch)
Sarissa Precision make a couple of beautiful Gipsy wagons, but I finally got this other one; though smaller, I think it still works. But, as you may have noticed, it belongs to the Victoria ranges, so I had to make some additional arrangements ;)
As you can see, nothing else than tyres and petty stuff. I might add some details more when painting, but still have to decide.
http://oldschoolworkshop.blogspot.gr/2014/11/a-wagon-for-merchant-pt1.html
I made some choices about the colours, but I still have a lot of work to do!
-
Should be interesting when done :)
-
Very cool idea Suber! I will nick it for sure! But I will make mine tracked as I have just the parts for it :)
-
Bloody awesome!
-
Got it finished :)
I used the same red/green palette that I used on the mini:
Insisting on the Old West style, I managed to paint this sign:
Given the appearance of the mini, I tried to also write the name in Arab, but I was only able to find 'doctor' (according to Google Translator)
So the wagon itself ended up looking like this:
But now it was in need of goodies. Regretfully I don't have pans or flowerpots to add (well, at least not in the suitable scale... :? ), but my bits box had some proper stuff:
Not sure if I will ever find any use for this (in terms of rules for a scenario), but at least I have a silly item of scenery :D
http://oldschoolworkshop.blogspot.com.es/2014/11/a-wagon-for-merchant-pt-2.html?m=0
-
Fine work Suber, the control looks ingenious. Will be surely a characterful addition to any scenario.
-
After looong time, back to the civilians!
I found a 17th Century soldier in my bits box, from an ooold project. Needed to do something about that! Afer some extensive surgery I came with the character of Armengol Perelmut, bounty hunter:
The following ones are from Hasslefree. This not-Starbuck looked gorgeous. Finally, a modern non-combatant mini bearing no oversized weapons! Vickee Sachaff, pilot for hire:
For the next one I replaced the gun with a chainsword. As it looked too massive, I thought of adding some kind of exoskeleton (it's just a piece of staple an some greenstuff...)
Finally, JB put me on the lead to the following character, the kind of people you may find in a port area, where sailors arrive after long time with no land at sight... ;) (Medieval girl with some additions to make her sci-fi... ahem)
You can find it all on the blog:
http://oldschoolworkshop.blogspot.de/2015/04/a-few-more-civilians.html
I'm still in need of more civilians, so I'm on it. More coming soon...
-
She makes me wish I had three hands
-
That's a great idea with the ECW/TYW guy. Might have to makes some Gentlemen Gangers....Does any one make Guy Fowlkes masks in 28?
-
I'm sure there must be some Guy Fawkes out there, but I haven't been able to find one, sorry.
A new small batch today ;) Won't somebody please think of the children? :D
It looked logical to me to see some children on my district; no matter if you are recreating port slums, little villages or mine workers tech-habs, for sure you will find some kids in the area. Hasslefree offered me the chance to do this:
I was looking for plain kids, nothing too bizarre. These have slight conversions on the clothes (and wires!), but I didn't want malformations or that stuff. That doesn't mean they are going to be just happy little house on the prairie ;)
The only concession to weapons I tolerated were these two, as the sculpts already included them (just swapped them with sci-fi guns)
I may add more children in the future (and I may try a more Blanchesque approach), but for the moment these are enough for my purposes.
http://oldschoolworkshop.blogspot.com.es/2015/04/wont-somebody-please-think-of-children.html?m=0
Another chapter closed, no to the new one ;)
-

Rogue Miniatures (http://www.rogueminiatures.co.uk/index.php/sword-miniatures/rogue-miniature.html)?
-
Fantastic stuff, very creative and well executed. The pedlar's van is particularly great. Also, loving the use of random non-scifi minis and adding just small touches to make them appear 'right' for a scifi setting.
-
Thank you! The process is quite enjoyable, I love doing that (despite the final results... :?)
Anyway, this time I found an easy solution: Ramshackle (http://www.ramshacklegames.co.uk/)!
This is going to be an Imperial Tax Collector (or another kind of Administratum Clerk, you know)
I was in need of mutants. I already have some xenos and beasts, but no muties, and I think they are quite a cornerstone in urban Warhammer.
A Servitor for dock working purposes:
A wannabe Batman grouppie (with an Aquila instead of a bat :P)
Evil monkeys! Because they look so cool ;) (minor conversions on the weaponry so there aren't two identical ones)
Besides, Curtis was so kind to include two copies of this one:
I was going to do two siamese sisters, but I discarded de idea in favour of another approach. I cut the mini in two (torso/legs). I remembered I had the legs from a Zombicide mini (which I had turned into a crawling zombie torso); I also kept an Escher leg (have no idea of what happened to the rest of the mini >:(). Sooo, when you mix it all...
What could I do with the remaining legs part? Well, I also found an Eldar female torso and a Cultist head from the Dark Vengeance box. So, you know...
So this is it! More dwellers for the Besenval project...
http://oldschoolworkshop.blogspot.com.es/2015/04/ramshackle-minis-for-ramshackle-district.html?m=0
-
Those last two are great!
-
Thank you! The raw materials were damn good, Ramshackle minis are really interesting stuff.
-
Nice, really need to get more civilians :).
-
An experiment for today: I found two WHFB Chaos Warriors in my bits box (no idea how they got in there!). No clue of what could I do with such minis, so I had to improvise a little...
What if they were some kind of merchants, or maybe pilgrims...?
I finally opted for the pilgrims (I wasn't ready to build their stands if they were going to be merchants!). Once you have a clear idea of what you want, everything comes easier to mind, so I finally got this:
I went through an orange palette; it's a colour I don't use that often, so I thought it could be nice.
Here you have them too:
http://oldschoolworkshop.blogspot.com.es/2015/05/the-road-of-pilgrim.html
Now for more stuff!
-
I really like those chaps.
The hunched over look works really well.
:-*
Nice to have some original miniatures for your games, it makes all the effort in creating them worthwhile when they come out like this.
8) 8)
-
Those are cool! Well done.
-
great conversion
-
Brilliantly imaginative and brilliantly executed. I especially like your attention to human diversity, your traveling doctor's wagon (I'm stealing this, but mine will be pulled by a decidedly extraterrestrial draft beast!), and envy your sculpting and conversion skills.
Just excellent. :D
-
I've finished my Colony 87 pack. Woderful minis indeed, both in design and quality. I've already seen some really nice paintjobs, I'm bringing my particular view on these ;).
First of all, Lord Manduc Greiss. To make it different from other paintjobs I've already seen, I've tried the lobster approach:
Lady Greiss was quite a challenge. At first I thought of purple and black, something in the look of Snow White's stepmother . But when I started painting her, somehow her bodysuit suggested me light colours. I diverted this way and I was getting... an Adepta Sororita :(
(http://i60.tinypic.com/2vipc3m.jpg)
Sooo, back to Plan A again. Dark and ominous:
Now she looks more in the proper mood ;)
Next one was wandering Alexei, space pilgrim (though I believe you could make a Tech Adept out of him with little effort):
The emmissary of the Amphirans, his froggyness Barcoon Kobosh:
As I already got a couple of Pisceans (and more incoming ;) I believe it may be the beginning of a nice warband
Kay Dee, the porter. A really inspired choice, I'd never thought of a porter, and I love the concept!
He is the porter to Pash Grolin, the most Blanchesque design of all the bunch. I begun to paint the vest blue and then, after the first brush stroke I realized, 'what am I doing? It's so Blanche I cannot use blue!' :D. So I tried a proper red:
Here they are, all together:
Absolutely delightful minis to paint, cannot but recommend them. Whenever Axiom manages to release a second wave, I'm totally in! :!:
You can find my ramblings on these over here:
http://oldschoolworkshop.blogspot.com.es/2015/07/colony-87.html?m=0
-
Amazing brushwork on those lovely sculpts! :-*
-
Fabulous job dude!
-
I love em, I hope they come out with more in this line.
-
What character figures, brought to life with a cracking PJ. The tech patterns are fabulous :-*
Cheers
Matt
-
Wonderful Suber! Really interesting interpretations - I really love all the freehand - it brings them to life!
-
Now for a change! I ended having this tiny robo-tank (from the Relic Knights kickstarter campaign):
It's cool, but I was a little fed up of that starter pack (no need to ellaborate right now, but enough to say I was somehow disappointed with the stuff I got), so I came up with another of my absurd ideas. I could use it as a carrier robot for my port or for a merchant. The turret would be the body and I would just need to glue random pieces for the rest :D:
Not a great pic, I guess it will look better with some paint on it:
Here you can see the size, it's quite a bulky monster!
I'm planning to build a little market with stalls and stuff, so I believe this one will fit in well there...
Here you can find the blog post:
http://oldschoolworkshop.blogspot.com.es/2015/08/tank-or-robot-more-than-meets-eye.html?m=0
-
Very nicely done, though up until that last photo I was expecting a tiddly little thing!
-
Brilliant.
A great repurposing of something that you may have first been disappointed with.
8) 8)
Those civvies are exquisite, by the way.
Love the brushwork.
:-* :-*
-
That bot is awesome!! :-* :-* :-*
-
Very nice converting and painting. It looks grand. The size and bulk of the beastie makes me wonder why it's only got to carry a few guns. It could pull the whole wagon/store, or be the trolley jack for installing anti gravity engines etc.
Put something bigger on the back ;)
Cheers
Matt
-
What a great bunch of minis! Great conversion and painting. Looking forward to seeing more.
-
Thank you all! It was definitely fun to build. I don't like the shoulders, I should have added something theer, I guess...

You made a valid point there! I just grabbed whatever I had at hand, but I may reconsider...
-
Hey it looks good Suber! I like it! Just had to agree with Steve F that it was a bit big.
But if it's done, it's done ;) :D
Cheers
Matt

I'm finally back to the brushes after an hiatus :). I have a new denizen for my lowlife district, this time a mini generusly donated by a pal from a Spanish forum (if you get to read this over here, thanks, mate! :)).
It's one of the early RT releases, later on re-released as a 'space mercenary'. I tried flashy colours and a minor OSL effect from a helmet's inner light.
So welcome Rickard Ehan, muscle for hire, wandering from here to there with rogue traders or whoever is ready to offer him the best chance of a fair fight (or any other kind of fight, you know, not too picky about that...)
Some other minis for scale:
You have it all on the blog:
http://oldschoolworkshop.blogspot.com.es/2015/08/another-space-mercenary.html
-
That's the way to do it. Those old sculpts aren't the easiest to get painted though they are extremely nice so hats off !
-
Great job on these classic figures!
-
I brought a new addition! Not a warrior nor a merc.. Just plain people, the kind of stuff I'm missing on my board.
I placed an order to Otherworld. They have some pretty lovely stuff. Among all I got, I received this lady:
With a staple, a couple of bits and some greenstuff I managed to turn her into this:

Clara O'Connor was just a humble waitress back in her homeworld, nothing unusual in her life. But one day she met a crazy guy called Kilo Ris who talked a lot of rubbish about her becoming the hope for future generations, some gibberish about her unborn son and stuff like that. Unfortunately, a few days later a Necron invasion took over the planet. Sarah managed to shoot the crazy stalker guy and run away while Necrons killed and slaved the planet.
Some time later she became a plain waitress again at the Sparklin' Pulsar:

Maybe one day she may be haunted again by her past, but for the moment she manages to pay the bills, enough for her.
Ahem, after this sillyness, I can only leave you with the blog post:
http://oldschoolworkshop.blogspot.com.es/2015/09/wait-for-waitress.html?m=0
I got some more minis from Otherworld, so you can expect some more similar stuff... ;)
-
Clara O'Conner, Kilo Ris... That's hysterical! Great backstory and a terrific conversion.
-
Very clever conversion. I particularly like the basket of chicken perched on her servo arm. Great stuff!
-
Just spent a hugely enjoyable 20 minutes reading this thread. Love your work, painting and more importantly 'concept' which you do really well at retaining across all these fabulous minis.
-
Thank you!! this civilians project is fun, it allows me to do some crazy stuff like this, and make up some silly stories like this one about Clara O'Connor, Kilo Ris and the necrons... well, such blatant... "interpretation" is pretty much the Rogue Trader essence, so I'm going that way ;D
-
I may have lost it with this one
Once again original coming from Otherworld:
I saw this one and thought I could do another man of letters slightly based on a real character (a la RT ;) ):

Soooo...

Mike Zerbantz is a freelance scribe, hired workforce for the local Administratum or whoever can afford him. After being declared a fugitive on his homeworld (apparently he severely injured someone relevant in a duel), he enlisted so he could flee from home. Being part of a Navy landing party on board of the Frigate Iron Marchioness, during the battle of LePanth he got badly injured on his left arm, which had to be replaced with augmetics.
After the victorious campaign, when the fleet was going back to their docks, Zerbantz's convoy was attacked by Eldar pirates and he was taken prisoner. His life in captivity was pretty unbearable. For five endless years he was tortured an tried to escape, until he was finally rescued by the Ultramarines Chapter on a memorable raid.
Since then, back on Imperial soli, he scrapes out a living while he devotes himself to his real passion, novels. He has recently been seen researching for his latest story, something about a guy who goes nuts, believes himself to be a Space Marine or something like that and begins his own crusade through the stars. Quite a draft, but he's developing the plot...

Here you can see a close up of the arm (my classic staple & greenstuff ;) )
You can find him at the blog:

This guy is awesome!!! I love the combination of fantasy and space opera that you've captured in him. The addition of the lamp and the bionic arm are terrific, and the green stuff work on the eye piece and data cuff are really smooth. This is such a fun thread.
-
This figure is truly fantastic he really captures early Rouge Trader! :-*
-
Most of the images in this thread are broken. Not displaying. Is it just me?
-
:o
Superb!
That is a great conversion, lovely smooth work and the painting is top drawer too.
That face is so characterful.
:-* :-*
Great idea too.
8)
-
Most of the images in this thread are broken. Not displaying. Is it just me?
All working fine for me.
-
Incredibly good sculpting and paint job. Very cool figures. The ones first in the thread works well for rouge trader but when I first looked at them I thought they were for Dune.
-
Oh man, that freelance scribe is excellent, from the idea to the finished item :-*
-
Thank you all! :) I'm just trying to catch the RT experience and do silly stuff and populate this urban area with the kind of people you don't usually see on the boards. It's difficult to find a coherent line of clothing design, as I just pick whatever random minis I can find from here and there; hence the not-Dune looking guys just next to a techno-fantasy scribe ;D. But well, I guess it's also part of the roguetraderesque essence, the 'eclectic approach' :D
I'm planning on adding protesters and guys like that to face some arbitrators. In fact that was my original idea in the first place! All this has just been a diversion from my plan! Oh my... ;D
I have no problem with the pics, does anybody else have the same issue? I'm gonna review the links just in case...
-
I have no problem with the pics, does anybody else have the same issue? I'm gonna review the links just in case...
No problem here, mate.
:)
Just caught the Clara back story.
Love it!
lol
-
New stuff today. But first things first, I have to thank Cheetor, who so generously gave me these minis away. Man, you rock, thank you! :)
I'm talking about these beauties:
I went classic for the Administratum guy:
Just b/w, the addings beong the checkers, the two stripes on the chest (maybe some rank insignia) and the Administratum sigil on the robes with the tiny "a" inside.
I made the rest the local bailiffs for my particular setting, so I made up the colour scheme and stuff, in order to make them look clearly different from the Arbites guys:
Here you have them all:
And of course, here you have the blog post:
http://oldschoolworkshop.blogspot.com.es/2015/11/old-stuff-see-light.html

:-* :-* :-* :-* :-* they look awesome!
Cheers
Matt

Back again with some unexpected stuff. A friend gave me away these Eldar:
Oh, my. What was I going to do? (Apart from starting an Eldar army, which for the moment was not an option ;D). A little kitbashing offered this aspect:
Then I saw their purpose (which I hadn't thought of until then!). Underhive pest control. For sure those lionrats and teracockroaches in the sewers need some tough guys to be in charge of the situation :D.
Here you have them too:
http://oldschoolworkshop.blogspot.com.es/2016/02/pest-control.html
More civilians anytime soon!
-
Then I saw their purpose (which I hadn't thought of until then!). Underhive pest control.
Sweet.
-
That is a great idea :)
-
That is a great idea :)
Indeed it is.
And you are making me think of those extra Eldar crewman that I have as 'useful' all of a sudden!
8) 8)
-
I wasn't sure about the naked conversions, but the painted figures are great! Very inventive use for them :)
-
Good heavens, this thread keeps dishing out the win on every page. Excellent work on those no-longer-eldar. There's some neat old eldar figs out there that would make excellent similar conversions.
-
Stunning work, mate!!!! my congratulations!! Outstading job!
-
Thank you! Let me show what I have on the workbench right now. My original plan just involved a fistful of civilians, I was just planning a RT scenario in which a fugitive escapes from the arbitrators on the chase while dodging people on the crowded streets and jumping from here to there. At some point it all escaped from my hands, but whatever.
I was in dire need for cheap civilian minis to populate my streets. So I got these WotC Star Wars minis, less tan 1€ each:
So it all was a matter of RT-ing them. I mostly used GW bits and some others. Let me show the after/before.
First of all, a merchantman:
(http://i67.tinypic.com/11ifyb9.jpg) (http://i67.tinypic.com/4fy32c.jpg)
A more extensive conversion, involving WHFB bits:
(http://i65.tinypic.com/2a0miqc.jpg) (https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6Q3r0l90-2M/VtiwNcWUA1I/AAAAAAAAAes/DOjDLgVPeT0/s1600/2016-03-03%2B20.44.36.jpg)
A simple one, with the keyring of his ship ;D:
(https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-t774qa5Spuw/Vtiwp5Vj1WI/AAAAAAAAAe0/mEdlNYc-EoI/s1600/2016-02-22%2B22.40.49.jpg) (https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-xyY01R0CYUQ/VtiwruLHxqI/AAAAAAAAAfg/2YtA3V9pfJo/s1600/2016-03-03%2B20.44.45.jpg)
A guy with nothing in his hands (you never find those on the mini ranges!)
(https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bJvLHYAy7F4/Vtiwp2h8IgI/AAAAAAAAAew/VdhIYdYKXsE/s1600/2016-02-21%2B18.33.35.jpg) (https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-YpVBsfSs9JM/Vtiwr0Bk-UI/AAAAAAAAAfc/E3NVy-F9bE0/s1600/2016-03-03%2B20.44.57.jpg)
A protester, clearly!
(https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-p2jHamBDTKE/Vtiwp0pZoHI/AAAAAAAAAgM/KxZK70oz-vM/s1600/2016-02-24%2B20.25.03.jpg) (https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-SpCx_Ps6GqI/VtiwsWGkmyI/AAAAAAAAAgM/Ru2_FX_p2rw/s1600/2016-03-03%2B20.45.44.jpg)
Time for a lady:
(https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-8vgPGUZxaz0/VtiwqOhlcGI/AAAAAAAAAgM/NeIZ6pCIqkk/s1600/2016-02-24%2B21.05.20.jpg) (https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-kPy1seQcau4/VtiwsBEtOqI/AAAAAAAAAgM/fX2MY15iFt0/s1600/2016-03-03%2B20.45.17.jpg)
This one was different. I got two minis out of him, by adding Skitarii bits:
(https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-mG0-8yyiiyc/VtiwsVmuaQI/AAAAAAAAAgM/L1Ytpz-9r2M/s1600/2016-03-03%2B20.45.58.jpg)(https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6QoJ3W79VCY/VtiwsuqZ1UI/AAAAAAAAAgM/0ujKEreKaLo/s1600/2016-03-03%2B20.46.08.jpg)
A simple one, with a head from Maxmini:
(https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-H3OLa_ICgqc/Vtiwq-YkJaI/AAAAAAAAAgM/t2ibCf5-YEk/s1600/2016-02-26%2B18.36.56.jpg) (https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qVW1heeOzPg/VtiwsxJZqGI/AAAAAAAAAgM/OicGbLRqONM/s1600/2016-03-03%2B20.46.21.jpg)
Another protester:
(https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2rJiX44mXP4/VtiwqcanWOI/AAAAAAAAAgM/EBoOcEFy5xI/s1600/2016-02-26%2B18.36.36.jpg) (https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-j8egoh1htw4/VtiwtC3HqxI/AAAAAAAAAgM/Hr2G7t8nl5M/s1600/2016-03-03%2B20.47.10.jpg)
A... Clerk from the Administratum?
(https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-54XrQxtUBe4/VtiwqvJDORI/AAAAAAAAAgM/P8Y0fPei8Sk/s1600/2016-02-26%2B18.36.47.jpg) (https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-VaKD3fsNi_8/Vtiws04FKkI/AAAAAAAAAgM/tNlirVsXmqo/s1600/2016-03-03%2B20.47.00.jpg)
The last one. I had these arms from the WHFB Empire cannon. What could I do out of them? A watermelon vendor! :D
(https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NICNIWJNZ-E/VtiwrDTHCVI/AAAAAAAAAgM/Ow8ZVqjygQE/s1600/2016-02-26%2B18.37.03.jpg) (https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-WkQ0ZMHikjU/Vtiwsrjv7qI/AAAAAAAAAgM/E8-tjHU5z_A/s1600/2016-03-03%2B20.46.34.jpg)
So this is it for the moment. No idea when I'll get to paint them, but I'll try to put my hands on them soon!
You can find them here too:
http://oldschoolworkshop.blogspot.com.es/2016/03/civilians-dozen-by-dozen.html
Well, I hope they add some flavour to the board!
-
Great conversions, they work really well.
:-* :-*
Love the watermelon vendor!
lol :-* lol
-
Wow those parts fit quite well 8)
I like the clerk! 8) 8) way to rescue a figure.
What glue works on the bendy pvc and hard plastic HIPS? Superglue? Did you drill and pin, because I would have thought the hard superglue would have a tendancy of snapping free from the bendy.
I have a few bendies left that could do with some of that treatment.
Cheers
Matt
-
nice conversions!! what did you do with the swapped alien heads? :P
-
lol nice conversions.
-
Great and innovative job, as usual ;)
-
Back again on this project!
What glue works on the bendy pvc and hard plastic HIPS? Superglue? Did you drill and pin, because I would have thought the hard superglue would have a tendancy of snapping free from the bendy.
I'm using superglue and I'm having no problem at all. No drills, just glue (I'm too much of a lazy bastard!) :D Nor I'm having problems with paint. Regular spray priming and usual technique. It's coming out better than expected!
what did you do with the swapped alien heads? :P
Hehe, they are now part of my Imperial Assault project (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=86576.msg1096893#msg1096893) ;), I have plans for everything! ;D
Back to this, I can bring you half of the batch today! I haven't come with good, elaborate stories, but at least each one of them has a name, I think I 'll let the stories be told by themselves with the minis. OK, enough. Let's go:
Ichabod Guss, merchant:
Mesmer Godinus, space ships technician:
Yohann ur Ghilt, taxi driver (Ouch, now I need a taxi!):
Gorden Karabas. Just a mere bystander:
Karim Gomm, fruit vendor (I need stalls too!):
Helenna Talabant, freelance prospector:
Here you have them too:
http://oldschoolworkshop.blogspot.com.es/2016/03/crossover-civilians-pt-1.html
This is it for the moment! The rest will come anytime son, stay tuned!
-
Nice batch of figures. Helenna might need another (?) coat of matt varnish.
-
Nice batch of figures. Helenna might need another (?) coat of matt varnish.
No chance! Not on bendy plastics karsten unless you want sticky and shiney. ;) brushed on varnish may be ok.
Haha a watermelon! And a heavy one at that, unless the vendor just cannot stand straight anymore, or future produce is so full of nutrients and goodness that one small piece will sustain a human for an entire day. hahaha what a strange blend of renaissance and sci Fi, but it works. 8)
Cheers
Matt
-
Here they are, the rest of the group. Again, a quick work just enough for having them tabletop ready. Let's go for them:
Boubaka Salim ibn Abenasser, wasteland explorer:
Pedro Mobhing, local Bailiff:
Gael Makabesse, Administratum clerk:
Mick Bouros, local worker:
Dabenari Molokisse, protester:
Brian Emmettis Pardus, another protester:
So this is it, time for a family pic:
And the correspondent blog post:
http://oldschoolworkshop.blogspot.com.es/2016/04/crossover-civilians-pt-2.html
So group finished, time to think about what's next :D
-
I like the conversions, Suber.
Each one is so full of personality.
8) 8)
-
What's this, then?
Imperiales eunt domus? 'People called Imperiales they go the house'?!
-
Oops, double post. Other one had more info
-
Yohann ur Ghilt, taxi driver (Ouch, now I need a taxi!):
You could always make one from an old mouse
(http://webzoom.freewebs.com/matakishi/Hovercar%20mouse%20350.jpg)
Or a Deodorant container
http://s64.photobucket.com/user/mattblackgod/media/DSCF2782.jpg.html
-
What's this, then?
Imperiales eunt domus? 'People called Imperiales they go the house'?!
lol Too much a temptation to let it go :D
Thanks, Puuka! I hadn't thought of what to use yet, but you certainly gave me a couple of ideas! :)
-
As part of my OCD regarding sci-fi civilians ;D, the other day I saw a mini and it was love at first sight. Finally, an unarmed female civilian just walking through the street, hooray! I later noticed it's part of the latest releases from Infinity.
The fact that the mini was also evidently Far Eastern fashioned, instead of the omnipresent Eurocentrism approach, got me totally into the deal. I just added some thin brocade on the dress and painted it in a relatively fashionable way.
For the sunshade I was thinking of some sakura design, but the mini instils more a Chinese than Japanese vibe, or at least that's my impression. So I opted for a traditional-like landscape:
So this is it, here you have the blog post:
http://oldschoolworkshop.blogspot.com.es/2016/05/a-different-approach.html
It's been my first Infinity mini, and I must say the sculpt is sweet. I got some more stuff, hopefully I'll be showing it anytime soon!
-
Lovely!
That sunshade is inspired.
:-* :-*
-
Serenely beautiful.
-
Brilliant work on the parasol lady and all your civies. It really can be tough to find unarmed civilians. I've collected a few over the years, but this is making me want more. Maybe it's time to dig into the lead mountain and see what I can find...
-
Nicely done Suber! :-* I've been trying to think of a way to squeeze her into a 2000AD setting.
-
More minis!
First one is another Infinity lady. Again, no idea of what she is in gaming terms or what that Cosmic Cube is. She just looked cool in the blister :D:
The other one is from the Sedition Wars ranges. Same thing; I saw the blister, love at first sight. This could be an adventurer, a pilot ready to flight his ship off the world, a bank robber fleeing away with the money in the bag... whatever. That's what I found appealing of this mini.
You can find them with a couple of pics more at the blog:
http://oldschoolworkshop.blogspot.com.es/2016/05/lady-and-tramp.html
-
awesome work as always, mate! Excellent additions!!! ;)
-
Ouch. More than a year with no updates. Shame on me :(
I'm bringing this thread back to life with some Blind Beggar minis by Mason (no introduction needed, I guess :)). They all belong to the first KS, except for Barnacle Ben, and they ad been on my workbench for too long. They finally met my brushes!
You can see I've deliberately used bright colours, as I thought it would bring them closer to Necromundan schemes. I've also tried some patterns on the clothes and stuff like that. Here you have some other underhive dwellers:
My favourites, the cyber-hounds:
The whole pack:
All of them on the blog:
http://oldschoolworkshop.blogspot.com.es/2017/07/outlanders-to-populate-new-places.html
I promise it won't take that long until the next update ::)
-
Those are great.
-
I promise it won't take that long until the next update ::)
Or, at least, promise to make it as much worth the wait! :-*
Doug
-
Lovely vibrant colours done well, Suber, thanks for sharing! Where are the cyber hounds from? I've seen them before but my brain is tired..
-
I love what you have done with them, Suber.
Those bright colours on the Outlander War Party really work well, I reckon.
The more muted colours on the others and the mettalics on the mutts look great too.
:-* :-*
Off to the blog for a butchers now....
-
Thank you all! About the hounds (which I love), all the minis there belong to the Outlanders ranges from Blind Beggar. Here you have them:
http://blindbeggarminiatures.co.uk/shop/products/03989269-dc34-443e-bcfa-5ea92f475537
But check not only those, there are some other really cool options. But I'm sure Mason can provide better info :D
-
Some really nice minis on display in this log!
-
Suber: I have added them to the Customer Gallery on the Website.
Thank you!
:D
http://blindbeggarminiatures.co.uk/customer-gallery
-
Some really charming sculpts, and you've done them justice with the painting. I like the bright pallet! I think my favourites might be the cyberdogs too - very characterful for automatons lol
Looks like I've got a few pages to trawl through to see the rest of your works. Thanks for posting!
-
Back again, this time with the second batch from Colony 87. Yep, I'm trying to update my to do list!! :D
Mechanic Asa Stent:
Junker Korl Feldspar:
Chamber Secretary Felix Saponya:
I turned High Priestess Cardinia of the Benevolent Motherhood into an Astropath (just because I could, I'm that badass)
Recordist Junger:
Botanist Hereward Osman:
Gorgeous stuff, like the previous KS. I enjoyed having a manageable project I could actually see coming to an end! ;D
You can find them here (http://) too :).
-
Nice work, sir.
I particularly like the Astropath idea.
8) 8)
-
Those are very good.
-
Great paint job.
-
Nice bright colours, you must be totally badass :D
-
Very nice additions, great brushwork on great minis.
-
Botanist Hereward Osman :o, nah it`s Terry Pratchett in the 41st Millenium lol
All damn bloody good work sir!
Glen
-
Thank you all, gents :)
Today I bring one of this year's BOYL event minis. Though I couldn't attend, I've however managed to end up with this beauty:
You may remember the illustration from the Rogue Trader rulebook ::)
I was so happy of having the mini that it immediately jumped up in the to do list. I went for a warm palette in brown tones, I guess I always thought of the illustration that way, as I really didn't think much of the colours, just happened I had to paint it that way.
You can find it all on the blog (https://oldschoolworkshop.blogspot.com.es/2017/09/olivia-from-boyl.html) as usual...
-
Back again, and yet with another warrior lady.
Some time ago I got this not-Lagertha by Hasslefree. But I got two copies in fact, as I liked so much the pose that I knew I wanted a sci-fi adventurer:
I cut the shield out from the original, sculpted a (crude to my taste) wristband and used an autogun instead. A ridiculously large bionic eye is the most obvious way of setting her into 40K:

Not much more; I replaced the axe with a knife and added a backpack from the Death Korps of Krieg ranges:

You can find her on the blog (http://oldschoolworkshop.blogspot.com.es/2017/09/separated-at-birth.html). It was quite a quick conversion, as I'm using greenstuff for another different project, so I just got the chance to convert her. You'll hopefully will know what I do have on the workbench quite soon :)
-
I like what you have done with her, sir.
Nothing like having a completely original miniature, eh?

Thank you!
Here you have stage #1 of my ongoing project. I'm planning a scenario for RT/2nd Ed, in which the Arbites will have to cope with an angry mob of civilians. I have some ideas and the beginning of some special rules for that but... I needed an angry mob of civilians!
I originally had the idea of purchasing the rioters by Offensive Miniatures, but in the end I favoured quantity over any other considerations, and chose the unexpensive zombie survivors by Wargames Factory. Some greenstuff/bits later I've come to this for the moment....

Well, no clear inspiration, just ideas from here and there, as the bits were found in the box ;D
You have them on the blog (http://oldschoolworkshop.blogspot.com.es/2017/09/not-so-happy-citizens-pt-1.html) too. No idea of when I'll be able to paint them (phew!), but I'll keep you posted!

Stunning conversions ! Wow, just wow....
-
Great conversions, but is it me, or are this guys arm way to long, I know the arms are a donor from a wotc Star Wars mini, but I was just curious if other thought that same?
-
Under the different conditions and environments of other planets, mankind has diversified from the normal genetic patterns in many ways....I don't see the long arms as wrong at all ;)
-
The rioters are a nice set of conversions. I'm looking forward to seeing them painted.
-
very nice conversions indeed
-
Nice work! Clap clap :o
-
Some lovely conversions in that mob, great kitbashing and lovely GS work.
:-* :-*
My particular favourite is the fella in the burnoose with the axe.
Lovely.

Stacks of fantastic ideas and clever combinations! These are great!

I've managed to paint almost half of the group! Not wonderfully painted, but they do their work at tabletop distance, which is what I'm aiming for here...

Retrohammer colours, signs in Imperial Gothic... the usual stuff, you know. You can find them all at the blog too:

More of them definitely coming son.

Love Harry Potter!
-
Nice original set of Miniatures
-
These are great - really vibrant and dynamic. My favourite is the guy with the oversized kepi / pith helmet. Great work!
-
Love 'em, mate.
Especially those banners.
:-* :-*
You have to do an 'Astartes go home' banner in the future.

Nothing wrong with your perseverance.
My memory, on the other hand.....

What Imperium ever done for you ?

I've finished the batch of rioters, phew. Quick paintjob, nothing delicate, just wanted to have the numbers for the scenario I have in mind...

Arbites are going to sweat...

Brilliant!
That group shot really shows them off to full effect.
What a crowd!

Arbiters are going to sweat...
Nah. There may only be one Judge, but then there is only one riot.
-
:o very nice
-
Nice.
-
Thanks! Now I still may have to give the arbites a couple of toys for riot control and then let's see what happens :D
-
That's a great shot of them all together. It looks like one angry crowd.
-
So much creativity in the angry civvies, and a good use of varying kits too. They'll be really versatile as well, usable in a ton of scenarios! I think the gent with the "Imperials go home" sign might be my favourite. Life of Brian reference maybe? Great work.
-
My take on the Statuesque Miniatures Deck Department may not be particularly original, but they need really very little to work.

Consciously or subconsciously, my inspiration was the Battlestar Galactica technician crew uniform. I didn't replicate it exactly, but well, I have to admit it's close :D.

Speed repairings are common practice on far outposts:
This was the kind of stuff I was in need of; just a few minis, allowing me to feel I started and finished something. Truly superb sculpts, I'm more than happy I got these. Everything related can be found on the blog (http://oldschoolworkshop.blogspot.com/2019/02/spaceport-crew.html).
-
Great Stuff! The crew look wonderful!
-
Excellent, I really like your take on them.
I'm amazed at how similar our tastes are, I have that ornithopter on my desk now (just trying to figure out how I'm attaching wings) and I have two of those crew built and ready for primer.
-
Very nice work.

Haha, that's a good thing!
I experienced the same problem with the wings. I opted for an easy solution using BBQ sticks and gluing it all looking for the most stable position possible. Have a look at my related blogpost (http://oldschoolworkshop.blogspot.com/2017/03/oldnithopter.html), I hope it's of any help.

Brill, love that orange 8)

Top drawer, mate.
Very striking.

Thank you sir, appreciate the link. I like the wing position you came up with.
