Welcome to my Punic Wars plog.
I am painting up Romans, Greeks and Carthaginians with an assortment of allies and mercenaries in order to game the Punic Wars. I plan to expand the collection to cover most of the major factions in the Mediterranean in the 400 - 100 BC time span once the current project is completed.
First a shot of whats been completed so far,

Now that is an army!
Looking at the pictures on your blog, you have got a lot of detail and kept some really bright colours too. I think I too often go for muted colours as 'more realistic' but then the figures don't look as good. I think I will try to be braver in my colour choices.
The tufts work well with the smaller figures too - they look like bushes and overgrown areas, which really help make the bases look ace.
Awesome sauce!!

They look great enmasse 8) 8)
Not 100% convinced by the use of flower tufts and I think the reason being that they do get used an awful lot on 28mm figures and hence appear to be out if scale. That's probably just me though :)
cheers

What a cool array! :-*
I especially like the multi-coloured shields on the Samnites as well as the basing which leaves a bit of space around each unit. Unfortunately, my superficial reading failed to reveal what gaming system(s) you're aiming at.
-
Really lovely work! The basing is great. I see that you are not far off completing a 4 legion consular army.
I am tackling the same subject, but in 28mm. :-)
What rules are you planning to use?
-
Thanks for the kind comments :)
I plan to use Hail Caesar to begin with.
As for the flower tufts, I used to think they looked a bit odd, but now I like them. I guess its just a matter of personal preference :)
The fourth legion is on its way, but after painting 3 legions I needed to paint something else for a while ;). Next up are Greek Peltasts and Heavy Cavalry, and then I will start on some unarmored Hoplites.

Those are awesome! :-*

Good to see 6mm here.

Glorius work there.

Glorious!!!

Excellent stuff!! ;)

Eight bases of Greek Peltasts completed, bigger pic on the blog. (http://www.briefspite.com/)

The "Heavy Cavalry" is half finished and while painting them I figured out that it isn't heavy cavalry but Tarantine Cavalry, so I will be swimming in Greek Light Cavalry when those are done.
I wonder where my Greek Heavy Cavalry is though... ;)

Looking great!
Keep up the hard work, it is paying off big time!
-
Really nice. What's the base size, please?
-
60mm x 30 mm steel bases, had metal shop do them for me at a bargain price.

They look very good.
Have you ever experimented with lightly dry-brushing tufts with Buff Titanium, or similar? It can give a pleasing effect.
-
I have on some of my 28mm Napoleonics, http://www.briefspite.com/2011/10/14/2-musketier-bn-1-westpreussisches-ir/ , its a bit hard to see on that pic.
I might go over all the bases once I am "finished" and do some more work to them, but right now I have a mountain of lead that needs to get painted :)

Seven Tarantine Light Cavalry completed, bigger pictures on the blog (http://www.briefspite.com/2014/08/07/tarantine-light-cavalry/)

I have tried to do a few things in 6mm and they are terribly difficult to get "the right look."
You are doing a fantastic job.
Another lovely unit! :-*
-
Thanks :)
They don't look like much until I do the shields and bases, I just wish my freehand was better/steadier.
Finishing 3 bases of Hoplites now, hopefully they will be completed by tomorrow.

It's great! I want to buy a viking's army in 6mm. But i don't know how to paint them. I never painted miniatures in 6mm.

I just wish my freehand was better/steadier.
For 6mm! You have got to be kidding me... o_o
-
Gorgeous :-*

Four bases of unarmored Hoplites completed, bigger pics on the blog (http://www.briefspite.com/2014/08/08/unarmored-hoplites/)

Next up should be more unarmored hoplites

Fantastic looking army
-
Very very nice.
Shows exactly why its worth gaming in smaller scales (6 or 10mm).
well done that man!
-
Bloody wonderful! :-*
-
Great stuff! Nothing finer than 6mm :D
-
Its great to see 6mm stuff. You've done some wonderful work.
Just finished my first 4 bases of 6mm Early Imperial Romans in 6mm. I'll post pics sometime soon.
Moving to such a small scale is certainly an adjustment and I needed to take some long breaks from the project because I was getting frustrated. In the end I am really pleased with the effect I got.
Seeing your vast armies has certainly given me some incentive to forge on. Now I just need to paint a whole boatload of cav, auxilleries, archers and more legions just to get to about half of what you are able to field lol.
-
I just wish my freehand was better/steadier.
Well that's standard creative self-criticism, but in reality you're doing just fine.
-
Very very nice painting but basing is extraordinaire. Your project was mine once but got tired of painting Romans and left it for later on and never took it again (though never it's late!)
Mine were based for Warmaster Ancients.
