I was reading my son the oddysey a few weeks back and came across a really cool picture of the cyclops in it and had to start sculpting it. It's quite a big beast at 80mm tall so far.
A lot of work to do still. Hair, arms and club and then little accessories such as bags etc to go on. He will be holding a club over the shoulder and reaching down to pick someone up.

And some stuff I made out of the leftovers, just quick sculpts these ones, the frog was a five minute job, if that. On 25mm bases.

That's really cool. Can you show the picture you drew the inspiration from?
-
I'll try to get it tonight. He's got a lot more hair now :)
-
Heres a pic. I have the top of the hair to do and I'll do another layer on the beard so it looks more raggedy. Finish the hairy bits then onto the arms. The tricky part I find. Must not gorillafy him!

Still coming along nicely. It was close to completion but I wasn't happy with the legs. Too short and the fur boots looked dumb. I'll make the boots look more leather-like. Not too happy with the arm length either I may make the arm a bit longer but I'll see what it looks like with a forearm in first.

That's coming along nicely. I think choosing to lengthen the legs was a good idea, although I liked the fur boots. The hair looks fantastic.
-
That is looking good. Seems you are going from strength to strength with the sculpting.
-
:) Thanks mate, it's been sitting on the back burner for a few days now as I do some painting which has been sitting on the back burner as I was playing computer games. lol
-
Even at this stage that is an INSPIRING piece. When your other activities permit, keep up the FINE WORK!
-
:D
A small amount of progress made yesterday, just bulking out the legs so nothing to actually show pictures of.
-
Looking forward to seeing him finished, you have done a cracking job so far
-
It reminds me of the giants in skyrim look wise...
Looking good so far :)

Nearly completed this guy now. Just a leg to go and then detailing. Any idea on details for this guy? I was thinking a leg of mutton hanging from his belt but that would be strange yet appropriate.

mutton sounds good to me, what you doing with his right hand
-
He's reaching down for a tasty morsel. :)
-
I think a leg of human would be more appropriate. Something to show his size even without another figure for comparison.
Oh, and it's coming along really nicely.
-
I've nearly finished this guy now. Just some little details to put on him mainly to break up the big space on his back that has nothing on it. His right arm is a bit more muscular too. He's about about 90mm tall and his arms are just blutacked on at the moment.

I think I've finished this guy now... finally. Didn't add any extra bits to it but made the shirt/coat look more patchwork. Thinking about selling it off so I can get a couple of casts if anyone is interested in it.
Pics will be posted this weekend of the final result.
-
Here are some finished pics. The last one is of the back.
-
The Big Guy turned out WONDERFULLY...nicely detailed with an abundance of character. GREAT WORK!
That terrorized little peasant that comes with G.W's plastic Giant would look great with your Oh-So-Cool Cyclops.
-
thanks DeafNala. :)
-
Wow, awesome (both in execution and size)! Good idea for the patchwork jacket to break up the back.
Nice work! Now will you let your son play with it?

My daughter always grabs it anyway so... :)
-
He's just great. That soulful gaze.
-
Well this is definitely threadomancy but I finally got around to selling this piece. Alternative Armies bought the rights. I've got a few more things they have bought from me as well, a nice little miniature fund for me.
-
Well done!
-
I somehow missed this first time around so I, for one, am grateful for the 'mancy'.
;)
A cracking beastie and I am chuffed for you that AA have bought it and it will be available to the masses.
Bravo, sir!
:D :-* :D
-
Great! Curious how it will turn out in real live metal :).
-
CONGRATULATIONS! It is WONDERFUL seeing talent rewarded!
-
That's great news. He's aliiive!
-
Thanks all.
Great! Curious how it will turn out in real live metal :).
He's a mix of resin and metal. Resin body, legs and head (one piece), metal arms.
