Hello all,
Getting ready for the big Pirates in September events at our local wargaming club (Nunwading Wargames Association) it is about time my pirates got some sail action!
So out came the foamboard ,balsa and card and let the ship building commence!
I have three kids and three pirate teams so I need three small ships. Starter ships in LOTHS have four guns so I will start with them.
Here are some pictures of the build so far.

Having made myself a template I can quickly mass produce the hulls. I then just do some slight modifications to personalise each ship. They each will have a different mast and/or sail arrangement.
I have concentrated on the first ship, a fairly standard topsail schooner rig for a small sloop.

The last picture has a Eureka miniatures Turkish pirate on board for scale.
More pictures to follow.

Ship looks great.
Looks to be the perfect size for playing on an average wargame table.
-
As the others have said they look great so far. Looking forward to seeing the rest.

That is impressive! Richard

They look grand 8)

Interesting, thank you! Ship hulls curved around the bow are difficult to make.

Hello all a quick update.
I have finished the first two hulls and I will paint them before tackling the sails and rigging etc.
I am taking a short break to put some paint on some figures and recharge the batteries before tackling the final hull.

Very nice. Where did you get your ships ornamanets, the wheel etc?

Eureka I'd say Nick.
Very nice Fuzzy - pity this is a Mexican thing. :(
Is there a linky to past events?
-
Yes Eureka for the ships rails and wheels and one of the gratings.
My cannons are from Old Glory and Eureka miniatures. My pirate figures are all Old Glory and Eureka.
I have a heap of other bits to add like blocks, anchors etc. which I picked up from a specialist nautical modelling shop in Melbourne called "Float a Boat"

Furt,
Thanks for the link, I was looking at the U.S. distributor.
-
I contacted Eureka USA and they have the ship's wheel and a mermaid thingy for the front of the ship...that should be available end of next week. :D
-
Thanks for the nice comments :D
I am travelling at the moment but will have some more updates soon. I also have the mermaid figure head but haven't decided which ship to put it on yet.

Back again with an update. The first two boats have completed the major construction work. Now it's the main paint job followed by the rigging and sails.
Enjoy!

really nice ships you have there

Quick update.
Two ships all painted and guns added. I am hoping to add the sails before the weekend when we have our big pirate game planned. The ratlines may take a little while as there is a fair bit of work and down the track I may add some more pirate bling like lanterns, anchors etc. but pretty happy with the result thus far.

Excellent work so far! I've been following this thread with some interest, but you definitely have my attention as you move on to the ratlines. They've always been a sticking point on my nautical builds, and I can't wait to see what you use!

Lovely :D

Well done I say!

Digits,
I too want to build a junk for a Chinese pirate crew. I might add it to this thread.
