Can anybody tell me please how GB and Perry compare in size? I have their Crusades ranges in mind here.
I'm thinking that the figures on foot might mix well. But I'm not at all sure about the mounted figures, where I suspect the GB horses might be chunkier than the Perry ones :?
Thanks Marc.

Offhand I'd say they're towards either end of the spectrum of the size and proportion range.
-
Can you let me know which miniatures you're talking about? Pics would be helpful.
Some of the older GB stuff may well fit with the Perry stuff.....
Darrell.

Yeah, both ranges have some variation in their sizes (GB more than Perrys).
-
My experience is from the Saracen forces but I guess the Crusaders are the same.
Gripping Beast are a bit chunky, and the Perry minatures are slimmer.
I have mixed the two in the same units and even swiched horses for them so it can be done.
I got more examples of Saracens in my Crusader themed thread here on LAF.

Here are some Saracen examples.

Excellent figures.

I was looking at the new stuff GB are just now releasing for the Crusades, but had not ruled out the older stuff either.
Engel: nice paint jobs on the figs! The GB's do seem to be rather larger, but do not seem to mix to badly at all.
I am also looking at the GB Moor's and considering mixing with Artizan's Moors. If this pic is anything to go by they should go fairly well together? http://wk.frothersunite.com/scale/scalearab.htm
As you may have guessed I've just been sucked into C&C ::)
Thanks for the replies guy's.

And don't forget the excellent Musketeer 'Saracens'

Very true! Silly me! :)
Darrell.

Clean forgot about Musketeer!! Pretty sure they will mix in ok with GB.

These are the Dark Age ranges rather than Crusades but hopefully these photos will give some idea. Scroll down for loads more....

Thanks Cerdic that's very helpful.
I had not noticed that the GB metals are taller than the GB plastics before!
The GB figure does stand a fair bit taller than the Artizan model doesn't he.
-
Yes, the size difference between the metal and plastic Gripping Beast figures surprised me!
I think that all of the manufacturers can be used together. The differences are within 'tolerance' for a group of human males! The problems only arise in later periods when weapons and kit were standardised. A Brown Bess musket should be the same size as everyone else's Brown Bess musket!

I'd say that GB and Perry mix at 'wargame distances' but the Perry's sculpts have 'finer lines' close up and you can certainly tell them apart. Musketeer are chunkier again and although they might mix with GB they wouldn't with Perry's because they are quite different in 'style'. The archers in the front rank are Musketeer and the others are Perry's

After seeing this picture
(http://chicagoterrainfactory.files.wordpress.com/2011/06/arab-infantry-compare.jpg)
from this fine blog http://chicagoterrainfactory.wordpress.com/2011/06/23/arab-figure-compareson/
I'd say they mix pretty fine. Stylistic differences are usually equalised by the paint job.
You'll find cavalry comparison in that blog post as well.

olicana that's a stunning and huge looking collection you have there!! :-* :-*
Thanks for the great link Remington!

I like Olicana's philosophy - buy loads and nobody will notice the differences!
I also agree that a stylistically similar paint job helps.
