Looking good, especially the shields.
Also using NT's AMW here but have decided to base everything on 100mm frontages and use markers at the rear of the units to record hits. Roman vs German game this coming weekend set in the early 3rd C too.
Really nice, Phil! Love the colour of the leather straps.
I've thought about adding the sacks of spear, too. I think Dr. Phil had some made up. Best, Simon
Working towards finishing the first Goth infantry unit next
Love them and have done the same for my Saxon's, Vikings and now my Greeks- eventually the same will happen to my late romans as well.
out of interest what are the Neil Thomas rules you are referring to?
Very nicely done. Great balance of muted and vivid colours. 8) And those decals are priceless, aren't they? Also like the idea of the Victoria standard – maybe you could add some flying bands (here's an example (http://lead-mountain.blogspot.de/2012/05/tribute.html)) to emphasise the unit's movement? Just an idea.
Yes really nice. Did you know that Harry will be at Partizan? Dr. Phil is putting on a Baallista-themed battle.
Yes he'll be doing signings... he has a booth. Hopefully there will be a Ballista miniature too!
Very nice! I really like that range.
Jolly nice Phil.
Ah, those Pannonians.
(Where the Hell was Pannonia again? Somewhere less hostile than Dacia? The Danube?)
Splendid work Phil :-* :-*
Surely a group shot is forthcoming soon?
Seconded
As I said on Monday, nice work, shame he'll go the same way as his namesake... ;)
Only the gods can foretell that :) (or Senna perhaps)"Woe! Woe! Thrice Woe!" Just for you... :D
Nice one Phil, but set up like that they look ripe for a full on bowling charge by some Sassanid cataphracts!
They look good. Nice variety in shields and other equipment.
Lovely work, Phil!
I really like the way you painted the back of the banner. That was something I pondered for quite a while... how to do the backs. Yours is really, really nice! Very nice command and infantry unit, like mtn, I like the Roman elements of the infantry. I think the Arthurian double-dragon banner works extremely well with the Goths.
I'm still pondering and trying to research the symbolism of my Christianized Ostrogoths. I found a bit of information on Arian Christianity which suggested that they did not use the cross or crucifix as their belief system saw that as a symbol of execution. They suggested that it would be like a cult today using the electric chair as a religious symbol.
Of course, all or almost all bishop and priest minis are sporting the cross and I wanted to add a Bishop Ulfilas to my high command group but still stuck on Arian symbolism. I suppose the Chi-Ro works but my Goth standard bearer has a large banner of Christ. I may stick a Chi-Ro on top of the staff pole and give Ulfilas a Chi-Ro on top of a walking staff while shaving off the cross on his chest.
Do you have any ideas?
Thank you chaps, lots more to come yet, if only you could freeze time and thaw it out to use later.
Excellent as usual Phil! Your Romans inspired me to buy a load of A&A Romans and get back into historical.
Please forgive me if I'm wrong but did I read somewhere on your blog that you had the lanciarii javelin cases cast up? If so, is there any way of purchasing them as they look great but I do t know if I have the patience to sculpt nearly 50 of my own!
