Well, it had to happen eventually ::)
LotR in 10mm :D
Following on the from discussion earlier about Minas Tirith I got some figures and even painted one... These little fuckers really do paint themselves lol
Copplestone 10mm fantasy but we all know it's Lord of the Rings :)
First off, Saruman of Many Colours (well, four lol)

These were taken with my phone but I'll do some decent ones with my camera that'll be in focus :)
cheers

They really are a doddle to do lol

Fine start to the project James. Just need to build Minas Tirith and paint a whole load more figures now :D
-
Hang on, you're basing them singularly? Bloody hell, nice painting.
-
Any particular rules set in mind ??
-
Very nice will you use Warmaster for rules?
-
Very nice!
Especially Sodoman The Rainbow Faggot lol ;) lol
-
Wow, excellent paint in the details! I'm impressed!
-
Thanks chaps :)
Probably Warmaster, yes but maybe the historical version as I believe it allows for a few more different troop types.
These are only characters, the normal troops types will be based in units.
Especially Sodoman The Rainbow Faggot lol ;) lol
It's Saruman and his Technicolour Dream Cloak ;D
cheers
James
-
Nice work, mate......
:-* :-*
....ya mad bugger!
;D ;D
-
Looking good James
If you want to have a crack at Warmaster just shout I can field both Goblin and Human Armies
Giles

Nice work. 2 down, 49,998 to go.
-
Will these be compatible with our 10mm pirates? ;)
-
Will these be compatible with our 10mm pirates? ;)
They should be, the Copplestone figures scale quite well with most of the Pendraken stuff.
-
Nice work. 2 down, 49,998 to go.
lol lol
Go, Bibbles, Go!
-
That's a great idea Giles :)
Nick & Jim

And Mark ???

Please, stop!
I've been contemplating doing War of the Ring with these, and you're NOT helping me resisting... :(
Dammit! lol
-
Nice paint job James. In fact positively brilliant, considering they're showing up at 3x life size on my screen and STILL look great!
Have you gone for a different painting style from 28mm - looks like a shade colour with a single bright main layer on top for each area on the models?
Agree with Argonor - you are not helping me stick to my autumn painting schedule lol
-
Have you gone for a different painting style from 28mm - looks like a shade colour with a single bright main layer on top for each area on the models?
I think of this as "Foundry style".
Great work on these, I've painted this set myself (actually the Fellowship themselves) and they're a lot of fun. You definitely have to bump up the colour contrast to get a good finished product though.
-

Second that Q. Did you use only 2 shades, or are there 3?
-
Thanks gents :)
Two or three colours depending on how it looks but yes, the contrast has been upped somewhat lol
I'm not pressurising anyone to paint them ;) (unlike Mark and Nick that pressured me into it ::) )
cheers
James
-
Its best to blame this sort of madness on friends. ;)
-
Fellowship???
I feel deceived, expecting to see the whole Fellowship, painted, in 10mm but noooo! >:(
Anyways, the painted ones do look marvelous James :D
-
Fellowship???

Nick will be doing the Ruturn of the King :D
It's just a really nerdy way of distinguishing the three threads lol

Nice miniatures, just remembered these fellows if you're looking for some nice 10mm variags or easterlings: http://www.tajima1.co.uk/index.asp?pageid=362663 (http://www.tajima1.co.uk/index.asp?pageid=362663)
Looking forward in seeing dense orc ranks! ;)

Those are really, really sweet!
And i think that if you want, you can find some elephant in a generic scale that could work splendidly as 10mm olyphants!
-
Nice painting there. :) Funny how you don't often see 'Saruman of Many Colours' in illustrations or film. Except that trippy Bakshi one.
Tajima minis do look nice. And Eureka do a pretty decent 'elephant' (http://eurekamin.com.au/product_info.php?cPath=87_100_101&products_id=9797). Otherwise, aye, a 15mm-1/72 proper elephant could be interesting.
-
Those 1/72 zvezda ones seems pretty perfect, including the covering! they do not look exactely like the ones in the movie, they look like a Rhun elephant unit rather than a Harad one!
Still, cheap and of great effect for a 10mm army, i guess!
Just some work on the tusks is need, i guess :)
And, of course, you have to re.structure the wooden construction on their back, or even rebuild it!
-
I have those two. I think id go for 15mm models instead with those. They're very big next to 10mm.
-
Stop it,stop it! lol too much inspiration, and I've already got too much stuff...
Nice work James :-*
-
Jim
Just a pointer if you are planning to use Warmaster as your ruleset basing sizes are crucial. The standard infantry base is 4cm x 2cm with the figures facing the long edge.
Shock cavalry and Monsters are based on 4cm x 2cm bases with the figures facing the shorter edge. All other cavalry treated as infantry. Generals , Heroes and Mages can be based on round washers, coins etc.
cheers

Oliphants were bigger than normal elephants if I remember correctly.

Liking the look of this project a lot.
Eureaka do an Mummapach in their 10mm range - its really nice, and really big
(http://eurekamin.com.au/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=552&g2_serialNumber=3)
I'll see if I have photos of it in battle, as one of our group has a couple of them.
The tajima figures are nice - I've picked up a couple of packs but need to get them in to the painting queue
Pendraken - scale wise their historicals mix great with Coppelstone and GW. But Pendraken's fantasy figures can be quite big, far more 12mm than 10mm, and as such fit with Kallistra scale wise. In separate units the differences are far less noticeable.
-
Got the base of the first unit of orcs finished today :)
Please excuse the blurry photo, I'll be taking some with my proper camera in due course :)

Looking good, mate.

You seem to be on a bit of a roll here.
Only forty-eight thousand or so to go, eh.
:D
-
Jolly good looking!
-
Ahh, another great thread to follow ... Nice work, James!
:-*
-
Excellent brushwork on those little nasties :-*
What kind of forces are you chaps aiming at actually?

Copplestone are fairly big too. I was a bit disappointed that the orcs looked like GW orcs (black orcs, even) beside my BoFA elves. But tomayto tomahto.
The pic looks good enough. Nice painting on that lot, especially the skintone. :)
-
Nice orcs James. :D
-

Yes, by GW I was meaning the Warmaster figures - not the BoFA ones. The BoFA plastics are very slight in build and a bit shorter than most 10mm.
You definitely have a range of sizes with 10mm
BoFA < WM, Copplestone, Magister Militum, Pendraken Historical, Eureka < Kallistra, Pendraken Fantasy.
I use all of them on the same table though
-
What kind of forces are you chaps aiming at actually?
We'll go until we get bored lol It won't be long for Nick though ::)
Started on a small farm for the Pelennor fields :)

Single bricks for the outer walls but probably render for the main buildings. Thinking some sort if Mediterranean look ???
cheers

Instead of using WA use directly BOFA rules which are Warmaster specific for LOTR. Here you can see a BOFA battle report using those rules: http://javieratwar.blogspot.com.es/2013/01/the-battle-of-five-armies.html (http://javieratwar.blogspot.com.es/2013/01/the-battle-of-five-armies.html)
Good luck with your project :)

I'm using the BOFA rules they came out between original warmaster and warmaster ancients they got rules for Beorn in bear form.
-
I use mayhem rules which are good...http://bombshell-games.com/mayhem/
-
I'd second Mayhem as an option, with all those unit creation rules. Not so many specific rules for Macedonian phalanxes or Roman triari etc. like WMA, but I haven't noticed too many of those in Middle-Earth. ;)

He's incorrigible. o_o

Check out Kallistras Orc Range some great figures...
I have about 1000 of the buggers painted on Warmaster bases if you need to borrow them :D

About two thirds of the way through the farm but still unsure as to the roof type ???

Balconies ::) Roofs, groundwork and other details to finish off yet.

red halfround tiles, absolutely! And for 10mm you can easily find the styrene sheets! :)
-
Sweet!
:-* :-* :-*
As for roofing....take a butchers at some pictures of Byzantium villages.
They should provide plenty of inspiration.

"cutting out tiles strips on the laser is appealing"
I've had a sneak peek at the laser cut tiles on the farm and they look mighty fine.

And if my back wasn't so bloody painful from working the weekend I'd finish the stupid thing off :(
cheers

Slightly out of Iphocus (I'll have to patent that phrase ::) ).
The last picture has a 28mm figure for perspective.
Fields next I think along with some more figures :)

Fantastic. This would be excellent in 28mm. In 10mm it is incredible :-*

Thanks chaps :)
Total hours would be about 14-15 not including drying times and the trees were originally bought by work but were unused and unloved and thus appropriated :D

I mean, still awsomely cute, but that definitely is not scalable for a large build... :)

That sure is one spectacular terrain piece :-*
I see the bad guys have already occupied it though, where are the good guys?

THIS is why I love these boards.
