Title: Green foam?
Post by: Skipp on 18 August 2014, 09:18:39 AM
Hi all,

I've seen a green foam used by others who are using the individual brick technique.

Apparently its similar to blue foam (ie carveable) but a bit more robust?

Does anyone know of a UK supplier for modest amounts? (I'm thinking 4-8 sheets of A4 at 1-2 cm deep...).

Cheers
in advance

Is it florists oasis?
http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=oasis+florist+foam&tag=googhydr-21&index=aps&hvadid=28727315408&hvpos=1t1&hvexid=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=13515664598851718059&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=b&hvdev=c&ref=pd_sl_2dfowmi044_b
As it soaks up water, coat it with thinned down PVA and it would set like concrete.

I think what you're looking for is called Depron?

@ Steve63: I would think that florists' foam is too crumbly for this sort of task.

I think you should get single sheets at your local DIY store, it's (like most foams, pink, blue, white) for house insulation. But they're large, not A4, more like 120x60cm.

If it's the floral stuff, it can be harder, but it's more granular and crumbly, so it may not be more durable and can be much worse, depending on the application.

The Green Foam I have been using is marketed as SikaBlock M150 a very specialized modelling foam that is used by graphic artists and art students.

I have never seen it for sale in model making quantities, but maybe some entrepreneur will look at buying a sheet and then cutting it up into sensible sized pieces.

Available from John Burns. See;
