Title: Nephilim Plains - Ongoing Sci Fi Skirmish Project
Post by: Bobble on 23 August 2014, 12:49:01 PM
Hi guys and gals,

I've been working on this project for ages and keep stalling and drifting in and out of it but here is the basic idea -

I don't actually play wargames (not because I don't want to! I have shelves of rule books and all of under our stairs is jam packed with boxes and boxes of minis and terrain in various states of completion! I'm kind of a shut in and don't socialise so my gaming group is my wife and my kids) however my daughters boyfriend has shown quite a lot of interest in playing (we are HUGE board game addicts,I have over 90 games and we play whenever we can)
So I started a sci fi skirmish project, very basic, that we could play with four teams : wife, daughter, her boyfriend and myself. I decided on FUBAR for simple rules that I could adapt for our needs and started in converting, painting, building terrain etc
Now hopefully the interesting bit, pictures -

Awesome PJ's.  :-*
That Plasticville Frosty Bar is on my wanted list. You sure made it look good.

Thanks guys

Still got to weather the buildings but I'm kind of nervous after taking quite a while on the pj's.
I've got washes, stains, weathering powders, graffiti etc I'm just not really sure how to do it.
I only want a light bit of weathering just enough to show they've been exposed to the elements for a bit. I can do heavy "filthy" weathering but I don't think that'd work very well for these. I've watched and read loads of tutorials but I'm still hesitant to make a start

Start with the Waste-ation, that way, if you overdo it, it will still look ok and you can use it as a learning platform for all the others.
Work your way from 'most soiled' to the one that you think should be 'cleanest' and you should learn what works for you, and a few tricks, on the way.

Beautiful project and it all comes together so nicely.

I think with a foundation like that you could risk a little weathering adventure and not loose coherency, but I totally appreciate not wanting to cover-up such a grand start. Mason is spot on; start with the garbage unit.

Go with your gut!  8)

"Start with the Waste-ation......"

Great idea, mate. I'll definitely start with that and see how I go

Cheers

Most are by a UK company called Warmill. I think they are fantastic kits and great fun to make and paint. The ice cream bar (under the signs) is a Plasticville model railway building and I'm afraid I can't remember who makes the signs

I like the 40k conversions. Reminds me of the good old days of RT\2nd Ed. How exactly do you plan to adapt FUBARs unit system to individual miniatures?

Haven't quite decided but thought maybe I'd count each model as a single unit and thus ignore the distance from unit modifier. Use the basic foot soldiers as Green, riders as Seasoned,Leaders as Veteran and robots/monsters etc as Elite. As I said in first post not an actual gamer so it's all kind of guess work and just see how it goes
