I am still doing my best to stay focused on getting everything ready for a campaign from the Skirmish Campaign books: Normandy '44 - First Hours. Most of the scenarios in this book are US airborne vs. Germans from various units (artillery, fallschirmjäger, etc.).
After getting my US airborne done to a level where I have enough painted minis for the first two scenarios, it is now time to get the Germans started. I proudly present the first two guys from the German 2nd Battalion, 191st Artillery Regiment, 91st Infantery Division. Gefreiter Lutz and Gefreiter Sauer:

Excellent work! (again!)
Are these 28mm minis? (I'm sure they are, but hope that they are 1/32nd or bigger) as I don't know how you get so much detail in such a small area.
-
Outstanding! :-*
-
Thanks!
Yes, those are 28mm minis from Warlord Games. Regarding the details... you need a brush with a fine tip (not necessarily a small brush - it's more important to have a good tip), a little patience and practice, practice, practice. :) It gets easier the more you.... that's right: practice. :)
-
Nicely done. I like the bases.
-
Smashing brush work :-*
-
.
-
Love the look of the Germans.
Very fine painting.
-
Not so sure on the plastic figures, but really excellent painting!
-
Very very nice!!!
-
You Sir, are the master :o
-
this are very well painted indeed :-* :-*
-
Excellent painting work!!! They are plastic, but you have done a fantastic work with them!
-
It just goes to show you really can polish a turd, well done, excellent brushwork!
-
What I love so much about your work is that everything seems worn down and toned down, but it always has such a nice and pristine paintjob! I mean, you can't even tell it's a brushjob...
And, you can almost see the careful brushstrokes in the figures...
I wish I could paint like this. :-*
-
Thanks all!
Interesting that so many people seem to dislike plastics. I have to say that I quite like them. Easy to work with and low risk of paint chipping when they are in the midst of action on a table. ;)
>> It just goes to show you really can polish a turd, well done, excellent brushwork!
Uhmm.... yes... interesting way of putting it. I guess I'll post more pictures of polished turds soon. LOL.
>> I wish I could paint like this.
I'm sure you can or at least you can get there. I used to be a terrible painter, but at some point I decided that I really want to be a better painter, so I started putting more time and effort into it.
What really helps is to see what kind of techniques good painters use and then adapt those to your painting style and what you want to achieve. For gaming miniatures I use some showcase painting techniques, but I will take lots of shortcuts and I will just ignore smaller mistakes. If I paint showcase I will obviously invest a lot more time. What I can really recommend are some of the painting DVDs out there. The Painting Buddha ones are great (http://paintingbuddha.myshopify.com/collections/all) and they also publish really good videos for free on Youtube (https://www.youtube.com/user/paintingbuddha). There is also one from Jeremy Bonament that I thought was outstanding (http://www.coolminiornot.com/forums/showthread.php?37859).
Cheers,
Thomas

I'm not that bad a painter, but my "look" is more a cartoony one, I guess. I'll send you a pm, you be the judge Thomas ;-)
-
Keep going, Kane. The pics you shared with me clearly show that you are on the right track. Just a little more patience and a few more targeted glazes needed. ;)
-
Those are freak'in awesome!! :-*

Beautiful.
I suppose part of the problem with plastics is that no matter how much time you spend putting them together (and it takes a bloody long time, for me at least, to clip them out of the sprues and get rid of mould lines etc) the arms look like the seperate arms on action figures. They have a way to go before they can rival a metal figure for a natural looking pose, and in looking like a whole, if that makes sense.
Their benefits of course are variety, customisability, and the accessories that you get on the frames.
-
Exactly poses are generally wrong or ungainly but they did opened the wargaming scene to many youngsters out there!
-
Generalmajor Bullinger and "Radio-Franzl" are ready for action. I am currently testing out different color recipes for the fieldgrey uniforms as well as the trousers. I guess it's going to be a good thing to have some color variance in a bigger unit.

Absolutely in awe of the General-Major! :-*
-
The metal figures are outstanding, you definitely did some turd polishing with the plastics, great paint work but I really dislike the warlord plastics
-
After two more Germans are done using yet another color recipe for "German Feldgrau", it is time for an update including a group shot:

Very fine job on all of them! :o
How many more still in the plans?
-
like them
-
You are doing excellent oustanding paintjobs - may Your eyeseght never fade and Your knockle never tremble
please let me correct Your uniform knowledge - framing silver "Tresse" on the collar and shoulderboard were exclusive to NCO ranks and always have to go together (the only exception is probably the panzer style wrapper tunic that You have done correctly)
how You can paint so detailed though, is a mystery to me... :)
-
@former user
Thanks, and yes you are right. Someone else had already told me as well and that is why the latest two guys have been painted without the silver framing around the collar. The shoulderboards still had differently colored frame even for regular soliders, right? I think white for infantry, red for artillery and a brownish for reconnaissance units (at least I have used those so far and can't remember all the others ;)).
-
Will you be painting any of the Blitzkrieg German plastics?
-

they all had the Waffenfarbe piping (which You will only do if You are a demon ;)), but I am not sure if they did not dispense with it for the field uniform later in the war, to be honest. Anyway, it is a very different width compared to the NCO tresse
-
@Londoncopper
Not sure yet what I'll paint next after the late war Germans that I am doing right now. I'd probably first expand my US boys.
Cheers,
Thomas

I am not the owner of the Indiegogo campaign, so I am not 100% sure when it starts. Keep an eye on the Heer46 FB page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Heer46/1618994091657818?fref=ts

Wow, this time it took a little longer to get something done as I had other projects in the meantime, but here we go. The next German from the upcoming Heer46 range:

Some of us are painters, you are an artist! Lovely work!
-
Cracking! There's sooo many different colours in that 'white' jacket. It just makes it so interesting to look at. Is that done with glazes or washes or something?
-
Thanks!
Well, yes... white is never white, so I tried to incorporate different tones: grey-blues, browns, yellows, etc. In the initial stages where I really just slab the first coats of color on, I already mix in small amounts of different colors. So I don't just use light-grey, medium-grey and dark-grey, but I use maybe a light blue gray (really just a tint of blue), a pure medium grey and a brownish dark grey. Once I have that sketch done and I am happy with the overall lights and shadows, I start glazing in more tonalities to emphasize some of the areas that I want to attract attention to. And in this case, I also wanted to have a worn & dirty look, so I took a blister sponge and dabbed the same brown tones onto the jacket that I used throughout the miniature on, for example, the gun.
That glazing and micro-detailing part is usually the most fun part because that is where the figure starts really coming to life. :)
-
The next German is ready. Please welcome Hermann:

Please welcome Hermann:
lol Hermann Munster I presume. I didn't realise you were adding zombies for your 101st to fight Stoessi.
Lovely paint as always.

Hey now, Herman fought for the allies in ww2 (it's actually part of his backstory).

Amazing looking paint jobs. Love them :)

Thanks guys!
@andym
No, those are from Warlord Games. You can find them in their online store in the SS section.

My compliments Sir and if i may say warlord heads (although one the cartoony side) are better option than the maxmini ones.
