Love the dirty look at the wall base and the stains are ace!

Amazing work!
(I am that lucky friend)
-
very nice

That's beautiful!
-
Wow, looks so much better than the official pix of it! :D
-
Very nice! What paints/techniques did you use? Enquiring minds want to know!
-
Looking good!

Really nice. I agree that the dirt near the bottom is very nicely subtle and not overdone.

Okay here's a breakdown of how I painted the castle,
Halfords matt black under spray, light over spray of white making sure I left black in the shadows (to be honest a spray of darkish brown would have saved me a lot of work here, as I had to do the next step)
Reeves artists acrylic paint, mix of sand, raw umber and yellow ochre paints similar shade to bane blade brown.
Drybrushing stages
Karak stone then ushabti bone followed by screaming skull
Final highlight areas using terminatus stone "dry" paint
Small areas of catachan green drybrushed on the walls, devlin mud washes streaked down the walls
3 stages of browns from scorched brown, Vallejo flat earth and then US field drab
Hope that answers a few questions :)
Thanks for all the nice comments guys :)
-
Certainly does help - I just snagged a kiddy toy castle set that I want to paint and you've got just the look I hope to achieve. The bone in with the highlights isn't something I'd have thought of; thanks!
-
Excellent painting!
-
That's a true beauty. :-*
And as a matter of fact I have one fortress waiting for me to pick it up :D
-
Brilliant work Andy, striking main colours and subtle weathering. Excellent!
-
Really nice
-
Looking really good, especially the weathering.

Oh my word! Very happy bunny indeed! :-* :-* :-*
-
That is more than a little bit tasty! :-*
-
That really is great, but man that castle is tiny! o_O
-
Thanks peeps!
-
Well done :-*
-
Cracking! That's some lovely work right there!! :-* :-*
I know this is probably the lamest question considering the castle is so great, but where is the grass mat from?

It looks a bit like hanging basket liner.
-
It's hanging basket liner £5 from local garden centre :)
-
Aces!
-
Looks great!
-
Super! :-* ;D
Question for Gibby, any plans for some houses, huts etc inside the fortress?
-
Yes I think so. I was going to look for something suitable as a small keep - it's more of a border fort when laid out like that I guess! Either that or a barracks building and a few other small huts etc.
-
When laid out in a line it makes a nice walled town ?
-
Yeah it will definitely make for a great city wall going across the whole board!
-
Very nice. :)
-
Beautiful painting! Now I want one, which is annoying considering I sold mine a year and a half ago. I was even going to try for a white stone look. On the other hand, I don't have to feel jealous after seeing how well this one was painted.
-
Building some balsa-wood ladders and a trebuchet now Gibby... lol
-
Sorry, Derek, but the castle may not be stormed by non-official Citadel(tm) Siege Equipment. It's in the rules! lol
-
lol lol lol
