Oooh. Hard boiled, uncompromizing men with brass detail guns...
-
Looks nice. I liked "Open Range", so may be going to see that one.

Thats exactly the film I was comparing it too when I watched the trailer. I am really looking forward to this and apparently its on release in the UK from 19th sept. :)

Looks good. :D
Just picked up the book, a bit of light reading first.

That one looks like a must-see!
-
The story doesn't appear too orginal. A small number of good guys vs the large gang of badies........I love it, I can't wait to see it. :D
TT.

Where'd you get it Ray? I spent last week visiting every bookshop in Cornwall and couldn't spot it's trail anywhere :(
-
Excellent. We can always use another decent Western.
-
Hurray!
Westerns needed a revival in modern cinema.
Now there's only the barbarian films left to recieve a liftup...
-
I like Westerns and thisone lokks great.
-
I recently read the novel, which I really enjoyed, and several of the scenes from the movie trailer follow action in the book almost verbatim. So now I'm really excited about the movie!
-
I've got the book somewhere - no idea where though >:(
It's available here:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Appaloosa-Robert-B-Parker/dp/0425204324/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1219654912&sr=8-1
...where I got mine from.
The film looks good - I hope Viggo puts in a decent performance. After the LOTR trilogy he seems to have specialised in doing turkeys.
Good to see Jeremy Irons - I hope he's playing a baddie. His "Vetinari" was the highlight of the recent Discworld films, for me. After all, it wouldn't be proper Hollywood if the baddy wasn't English.... lol
It's definitely on my "To See" list!

I went to see it last night and was very happy. :D
It looks great, beautifully shot, decent acting, believable characters. An old West lovers dream movie.
Both Ed Harris and Viggo Mortensen were excellent as Virgil and Everett. I would love to see the second book made. (I have not read it, but hey its a western, its got to be good) :D

I enjoyed it but it was nothing special. One dimensional charterers who have all been done before and better. One review said it had “thunderous action” they must have seen a different movie; this had very few action scenes and few were what I would have called thunderous. Rene Zellwigger (sp) was Ok in the role for what it was worth and Lance Hendrickson had put on some weight I did not recognize him at first he was starting to look sick before. Ed Harris and Vigo Mortinsen did Ok in there renditions of Woodrow call and Gus McCrea, Oh wait this was suppose to be a different movie. The best part of the Movie was the town. It was ok for a $6 matinee.

While the movie was a visual treat I gotta say the story was somewhat flat.
On a side note, was the church and small town from the shootout the same building from the latest Alamo remake?

Yes it was. The Dripping Springs movie set in Texas.
