Viper4Dan test flew his KEGSCON game in the basement o'rabbits. A train, hordes of
zombies Simbas and some brilliant conversion jobs for the Gens d'Armes and mercenaries.

Alright, this is long overdue. The "Dark of the Sun" has lead be deeper and deeper into the heart of the Congo Crisis, a bit like Mr Kurtz, and the project just keeps getting bigger and bigger. The more you research this period, the potential for the types of forces involved and gaming scenarios seems almost limitless. The variety of uniforms weaponry of just the various Katangan and ANC forces alone allows you to build a variety of types of units. As a start, here are my "Striker Blue Force" Katangans, and some of my Simbas.
-
More Katangan infantry.
-
More of the same.
-
Striker Blue Force Command... Kataki, Ruffo, Henlein and Curry.
-
Simbas!
-
....and more Simbas!
-
.....and more Simbas...
-
.....and even more Simbas!
-
Simba Command.
-
Fantastic job on all of those Simbas.
And, I think the mercs are going to need more ammo. A lot more.
-
Love your Simbas.
How many do you have now?
-
That is brilliant I love it-it looks fantastic fun and is the essence of what this hobby should be about.

I have 80 Simbas finished, with another 20 in the process. The Katangan infantry in the camo smocks (Striker Blue Force) are presently at 40 completed. (Striker Blue Force). My next photos will be of a motley group of 40 Congoloese infantry (ANC....National Army of the Congo) in green, with US helmets, rifles, carbines, Brens and BARs. They can fight with or against the Katangans. Simbas, Mercenaries or UN. I also have a dozen generic UN types done (more need to be painted), two mercenary jeeps and a Ferret AC primed and ready for painting, and a box of plastic Warlord British Airborne just waiting to be converted to Belgian Paras with the addition of US cantons and FNs from TAG. Over the weekend I converted a Warlord US Marine into a Cuban adviser who looks remarkably like Che. All in all, a great period with lots of flexibility.

With the outbreak of the Congo Crisis, both the government and secessionist states quickly tried to mobilize and equip as many troops as possible, as quickly as possible. As a result of foreign support for one side or the other, not to mention an almost non-existent supply and infrastructure system, coupled with local mismanagement, inexperience and corruption, many units took the field looking nothing like units in the other parts of their same army. Some units were well equipped and uniformed, while others were poorly looked after. I have tried to make my generic ANC (Congo National Army) unit look pretty basic, with a variety of uniform bits and weapons. Photos to follow.
