So recently I got my hands on the Alpha rules to playtest and last night we had an impromptu run through with my Imperial Guard used as a "Concord Strike Force " and a friends Tau as the "Algorynn" . Its not just Bolt Action in space ,although it uses similar mechanics there seems to be a bit more substance to the game and I can see how BA V.2 could easily turn into this one day , with more reactions to "fire" orders for troops being fired upon giving more options. The abundance of drones of all types make things a little hairy at times .The provided listsd in the Alpha concentrate solely on small infantry units ( fireteam ) engagements with support weapons as back up so I cant wait to try some vehicles out in the future . Overall the game played quite well and was easy to pick up and have allot of fun throwing little space men on the table without too much hassle at all . A few niggly bits like weapon terminology threw us out like "if its a mortar or a bazooka or an underslung grenade launcher then just ^&%$(*^ call it that " , all the "new" names for weapons was confusing , but easily overcome with a 2B pencil . Wiht the lists a bit more expanded I can see this as a good set of rules for Newbs to sci fi games to get their teeth stuck into with about a platoon a side of about 10-12 units . A good bit of fun overall without a headache . Apologies if pictures are too big , cheers Tom

Thanks for sharing...I can't say I'm overly enthused to hear it's like Bolt Action (not my favourite rule set). I'd need to undergo some serious convincing. Are they still planning a full line of miniatures or just rules?

Thanks for the game mate, I am quietly confident that BTGoA will be our Sci-fi rules of choice for this level game.

Bolt Action (not my favourite rule set).
I don't like BA either; I find it too simplistic. What I like about BTGoA is that the basic BA activation mechanism is used but the game is fleshed out with far more details. Almost every aspect seems to have a couple of extra details added.
