Title: Monolith Pulp Minis -- Help?
Post by: Bookman1960 on 21 August 2008, 05:43:20 AM
Does anyone have any of the Monolith Design pulp miniatures?  If so, are they compatible with Bob Murch or Copplestone miniatures?

I would like to order some Buck Rogers and the Cultists on this page:

http://www.monolithdesigns.co.uk/cliffhanger.htm (http://www.monolithdesigns.co.uk/cliffhanger.htm)

but I'm not sure how really large these minis might be.  I see that the company's page indicates that the miniatures range from Scale 1/48 - 36mm-40mm, which should place them in the right scale but...

The company also has the following on their site:

"The models within a range are made to a constant scale, applicable to a particular size of gaming figures, including l5mm and 25mm. (Ancients, American Wars) and 20mm (WWI, WWII), etc. The science fiction and fantasy items are nominally scaled for 25mm miniatures, but are applicable to the larger scale fantasy battle models."

So...I'm confused.

Any help?

Thank you.

No, they are not compatible.  Sorry  :(

They are most emphatically NOT compatible with 28mm. They are 40mm.

They are most emphatically NOT compatible with 28mm. They are 40mm.

And IMHO they are not even compatible with other 40mm figures, being much bulkier than other manufacturers - good figures, though, which are full of character and almost paint themselves.

Somebody should make 28's that paint themselves  :D

Imagine prepping a bunch of figs, leaving them on the painting table overnight, and finding them finished next day  ;D  lol

I don't think I'd like that.

I would, however, love figures that removed their own mould lines and cleared away their own flash. Perhaps blocking in the basic colours too, but no more than that. It's the latter part of painting I really enjoy, when it all starts coming together.

Figures that take that away from me, and just leave me the prepping, the part I hate most? No thank you, no bloody way!  :)

I actually only paint minis to game, and I find the time prepping and painting taking far too much time from gaming.... Thus my suggestion... But, yes, if minis came all cleaned, assembled and primed, it would save time, too (I'm not too keen on 'pre-painted' 'collectable' minis as the paint-job is... well, often slobby...).

On the other hand, my painting has improved a lot the last couple of years, while I've been around here - some minis I actually enjoy painting now (I'm doing a Brigade Alien Invasion alien right now - VERY nice to paint  8) )...

Off topic again, sorry... but the original topic was more or less exhausted, anyway, I think  ;)

Gentlemen,
Thank you for you responses.

Now I have to figure out which European terrain designers are my netx options for purchasing via internet.
It frustrates me that it appears that it Europe that is the place to game with real terrain.

The US gaming world is sadly dominated by GW's Warhammer...boring!

Sigh..

Anyone know how to beat the high costs of purchasing and shipping from Europe?

Move to the UK - you've still got the US president heavily influencing your policies, most of the TV is from the US but the figures are better. Sorry, I couldn't resist that!  ;)

I would just like figures that won games for me!  ;)

Just for the record, the Monolith Terrain items are 25mm. It's just the "Graven Images" and "From beyond" miniatures ranges that are 40mm.

Some of their figures are still useable for pulp... expecially for villians and monsters etc.!

Also shipping from the UK is not really too bad... many just charge the actual cost of the postage.  For a smallish order the postage might only be the cost of about one figure.  And often larger orders get free shipping.
I don't find the cost prohibitive at all...  buying wargaming supplies is an international adventure... I am buying from all over the world and love it! :-*  You have to do it if you want the best goodies! lol
