Title: WWI on ODIT
Post by: Flemish mercenary on 06 October 2014, 03:07:46 PM
I was on ODIT 4+5/10/2014 (Erquelinnes Belgium) with the WWI 12mm models from Van Dyck.
The Belgian line / chasseur infantry and Minerva are ready and released in days now ! The German infantry 1914 almost.
When painting them I was discovering even more details as before.

Kris will be at Crisis Antwerp Belgium on 1/11/2014 with these new and excellent miniatures in 1/144 or 12mm.

Thanks for sharing the photos.

Kris has sent me the Belgian infantry and Minervas. Should be very interesting to paint this scale, notwithstanding the detail.

Those really are lovely models.

They do look rather excellent.

I was worried they would be very tall next to my Pendraken and Magister Militum figures, but that shot with the ruler looks promising.

I'm only play with 28mm models.

But the detals and the quality of the work are a pleasure.

I'm going to crisis, maybe I'll buy some of them.

They look a bit betwixt and between when it comes to size. 11mm to the eyes and 12 to the top of the head. Looks bigger than Pendraken but smaller than Kallistra.

These miniatures look very good.

If these were out when I started the period, I'd have done 12mm....

They look better sculpted than my 15mm stuff.

Thanks and yes very much. Can't believe they are 12mm with so much detail.

Now the challenge starts. The Minerva will be fun to paint.

All the best,

Helen

These are quite extraordinary little models.  I was amazed by the Van Dyck Romans at Crisis last year and these look even more impressive.

They are amazing ly well sculpted for 12mm.

These are very high quality sculpts and castings.

I've got some in the pipeline to paint up- i even bought an Optivisor! I've got to admit though, getting used to painting with an Optivisor is an art in itself!  lol

Lovely.

They really are, Kris was king enough to send me some in the post and the details in really amazing- I'm not exaggerating, it is amazing!!

I'm currently trying to get used to painting with my Optivisor (you kind of need to on such a small scale IMHO) before tackling them.

.......and i'm very much looking forward to doing so!

Since you are a friend on Facebook you may have missed my attempt on painting them for both sides!

Oh, I do love them and will start painting more in the spring when I finished my Italians for Sicily.

Cheers,

Helen

Helen,

I probably missed that as I've been going on Facebook as little as possible as i tend to get drawn into conversations and before I know it an hour has passed and it's time I could have spent constructively...... no doubt I'll get sucked back into it soon  lol

I'll take a peek at your work at lunchtime  :)

Thanks Darrell. Just don't look in the mirror with them on.  :o

I find the visors very handy as my eyes are deteriorating with age.

Have a look on Facebook at Van Dyck Models and Figurines and see the dismounted Belge Ulan.

Too late, I've already made that mistake  lol

I find the visors very handy as my eyes are deteriorating with age.

Mine are going at an alarming rate. I have a theory that this is mostly down to wearing reading glasses that I have bought from a chemist instead of getting my eyes tested and getting prescription reading glasses. I think that if one doesn't do this then the muscles in each eye are effectively fighting one another..... it's the only way in which I can understand the deterioration in my eyes which has happened over just one year. I've gone from x1 to x3 lenses in that short space of time!! Alarming.

I will do. I'm still bamboozled as to how he manages to get such fine detail even taking into account the optics that he uses. The mini's are nothing short of superb  8).

Darrell.

Please make sure you do get your eyes checked. Every two years I have my eyes tested. This year saw a small revision in one eye requiring a stronger lens. The magnification lens is now 4.25 for painting. I would much like a 4.5 lens.

Back on topic. Wonderful miniatures from Kris to which I hope we may see some further releases this year.

Cheers,

Helen

Will do.  :) Phoning tomorrow in fact.

I'd love to see some Late War mini's as well though I'm guessing that if they are part of Kris's plans they may be a long way off as of yet.
