I have been looking at the Perry plastic ACW kits as the basis of a Portuguese force for Death in the Dark Continent. I would quite like to use the left over ACW/Confederate Infantry and Cavalry models for skirmish games in the Indian Mutiny or other mid-Victorian adventures in the subcontinent.
To my untrained eye, it looks like simple paint conversions and a bit of greenstuff and hacking on the kepis to turn them into forage caps or havelocked kepis would be sufficient to transform them into the EIC's & HM's Thin Red Line. Am I terribly, terribly wrong?

Didn't someone do a magazine article (probably WI and possibly one of the Perry brothers that did it) a couple of years ago that did a series of (mostly paint) conversions of plastic ACW bodies?
I vaguely recall something like you're suggesting in there.
So I'd say yes.

Excellent! Does anyone remember which issue that article was in? 45 minutes of googling has proved fruitless.

Hi there....
I can't remember what issue the conversions were in, but I was actually responsible for some of them... :)
The mutiny figure was a very easy convertion ,a green stuff hat and I think I reshaped the water bottle to make it more British, the rest was done with paint.
As the British in India wore tunics and shell jackets you should be okay, I would change the trousers the are tucked into socks so that they are untucked or turned up.
I hope that has been of some help...
All the best. Aly
