Hi guys,
Just thought I'd post some pictures of my late war grenadier squad that I've just finished. The models are the plastic Germans from Warlord which, on the whole, is quite a nice set. The moulding is a bit soft in places and the heads are all a bit similar but once painted up they look quite nice. I've tried to do some degree of conversion work on each figure, even if that's just a head/weapon swap with a metal one or a bit of greenstuff to conceal a joint. I've also made use of parts from the Blitzkrieg German set, which scales nicely and provides a good range of alternative arms.
I've painted some of the trousers in an Italian camouflage scheme after seeing some pictures of landsers wearing them. I realise there's some debate as to how much Italian items of clothing were worn by the German army however it doesn't seem a great stretch to imagine that in the last years of the war troops would take whatever they could get their hands on. I've got another two units to do, but they may take some time..

In itself it's not a bad set; just a bit limited. I think if you can mix in some metal heads and parts from other kits you can get a bit of variety and make it a lot more interesting. With all the plastic kits available now you could even mix and match with other ranges. For example I noticed they scale well with the Perry plastic WOTR sets that I have lying around, though I didn't use any bits from there this time.

I have a platoon of unpainted Artizan Germans. I like the idea of using the Italian camo. I think ill steal it when i do mine :)

Great paintjob ! However, I'm very surprised by the Italian camo on the trousers...Could you tell us your sources for that ?? I'm pretty sure that the Heers troops never use it (but SS yes...)

Thanks very much :) No real source to be honest. Like I say I know there's some debate about how often Italian camo was used but I can't see any reason why Heer troops might also have got their hands on it as well as the SS...
.. On a more practical note I have a lot of Fallschirmjäger to paint up after this so I didn't fancy doing more splinter pattern on these, as I'll be doing it a lot on them ;) (though I did do it on the helmet covers)

That why I asked you, to know if you found a picture or an other source. Thank you.

Actually, after doing a quick search, this thread has a lot of pictures of German troops in Italian camo.

Thanks very much :D yes I agree on the model front. The detail and casting on them is a bit soft and hard to paint much of the time. I think straight out of the box they're fairly rubbish; you really need to tinker about with them to get the best of the kit. Though tbf I know some people aren't fans of Warlord's models in general anyway :)
