Title: A Close Escape (a VSF battle by GASLIGHT)
Post by: BaronVonJ on August 25, 2008, 07:53:16 PM
Famed explorer, Sir Archibald Stanpipe, had recently recovered an ancient tablet in Outer Mongolia
and was on his return trip when his dirigible, Lady Dora, mysteriously crashed on small island in the North Sea.
Earlier telegrams hinted this tablet might give the location of great amounts of Quantonium, the newly
discovered element that allowed heavier-than-air ships to fly, and enhanced steam technology to its
new heights.
The scenario pitted five pplayers from five nations (including the nefarious Prof. Nightshade) trying to
1) Find Sir Archibald
2) Get the location of the tablet, hidden after the crash.

Germany got off to a good start as Rokkittruppen dropped preciselt onto the village and quickly found
Sir Archibald.
(http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll296/BaronVonJ/000_0020.jpg)But things went sour when the vaunted Killenkanner, dreaded killing machine of past adventures, was
quickly dispatch by L’Roue (which has had a very lackluster history).

Then, a bombing run by the German Wespe ended in a miss and failed “Sustain Roll” which led to landing
in the ruined church.

During this time, Nightshade’s Masked Minions advanced to the village. The Germans ahd found Sir Archibald
and got  the location of the tablet from him (not the real location, he wouldn’t give up the secret to some
flying Hun!). Nightshade’s minions caught up with Sir Archibald bought lost half their number to French gunfire.
Most were quickly repaired by Nightshade and sent back into battle.
Meanwhile, the British and Russians steadily advanced.

The British reached the village and scuffled with the remaining
minions. The French joined the fray, and only a few brave Brits escaped with the true location of the tablet. In the fight,
Sir Archibald was wounded and captured by the French.
The surviving British officer would have to pass through the Russians to get to the building the tablet
was hidden in. The Turtle (a British steam tankette) blew the Russian flame carrier up with one shot.

In the end, the Brits escaped with the tablet, the Germans were slaughtered, and the rest had to leave empty handed.

Very nice report and p[ictures.

May I ask for some more photos on the units you have. Specially I am interesting for those cycles / bicycles and autogyro. Are they schratchbuilt or just conversions.

Thanks

Wonderful stuff!

I was glad to see General Mayhem was involved. It's always much more fun when he appears  lol

As I said before: very nice, but aren't you guys taking things a little too far by playing a VSF battle "by gaslight" (normal lighting would do just as well  lol).

The middle figure was from the "Great Rail Wars" line from Pinnacle. Jeff Valent Studios took over production I think, but he doesn't offer most of the vehicles anymore. Eureka make s the pedal artillery. I just switched out the cannon for rockets off a Gorka Morka vehicle.
