At the British Lead Adventure Meeting last weekend Captain Blood and I played out a fictional encounter between the Royal Navy and the Mexican army set during the 1820/30s...
After a diplomatic incident the Mexican government has "moved" the British Ambassador and his family from Mexico City (for his own safety) and have "relocated him" to a small fishing village near Vera Cruz. The British government has dispatched HMS Dolphin and crew under Commander "Unlucky" Jack Spoons to rescue the Ambassador.
The warship has dropped anchor just before dawn and "Unlucky" Jack and crew board their jolly boats and head for the shore. They hope to catch and eliminate the pickets and sentries before they can alert the sleeping gun crews who man the shore battery...
A couple of shots of the whole set up:

The sentries enjoying their breakfast..

Unfortunately "Unlucky" Jack's luck deserted him today as the sentries still groggy from last nights Tequila spot the boats making for the shoreline. They raise the alarm and their gunners rush from their tents to prime the guns.

"Unlucky" Jacks encourages his men to row for their lives and most make the shore before the guns open fire

"Unlucky" Jack is still not lucky as his jolly boat takes a direct hit. Fortunately they are in shallow water and manage to wade to the shoreline, but their powder is now damp...
More later ;D

Nice AAR Nick.
At least poor Captain reached the shore safe and sound... :D
...but with the powder damp??? :o
-
Beautiful Nick, such eye candy from you and Blood. And it's ONLY the landing!!! :-*
How did Death's rules play out BTW? Superior to Sharp Practice I'd guess.
Come to think of it, this jolly jaunt vaguely reminds me of our Indostan games...

The various groups of sailors and marines charge up the beach. The Mexican sentries are engaged and die to a man before they can react further.
The Mexican gun crews are equally unfortunate and are quickly overwhelmed before they can get off another shot.
Only Capitan Batres is left alive. He fires his gun at point blank range into the mass of men struggling to climb into the redoubt... but the shot is a misfire and he is rapidly put to the sword.

With their first objective of silencing the guns completed the sailors and marines move cautiously into the village to find the Ambassador....
"Unlucky" Jack's men re-equip themselves with fresh powder looted from the Mexican camp.

Nice... :-* :-* :-*
More please.

The sound of gun fire at the beach has the locals running from their houses just as the various naval groups reach the outskirts of the village. There is no time for looting though as the sailors have their sights set on finding the Ambassador.
However there are more Mexican infantry garrisoned within the village. They form up and engage the British in a running battle.

The Royal Marines are caught in the open and are cut down:
Elsewhere fortune favours the British and fierce hand to hand combat results in many Mexicans falling under the cutlasses of the jolly Jack Tars.
Fortunately the British locate the house where the Ambassador is being held
(http://leadadventureforum.com/gallery/19/86_16_10_14_12_38_51_4.jpg)
The Ambassador is rescued, but sadly his wife is killed in the fight.( One of the players who will remain nameless ;)) decided it would be a good idea to roll a barrel of gun powder against the side of the building and ignite it... The resulting blast killed a number of the occupents of the building including the ambassadors wife, his son, his daughter.. :o lol
(http://leadadventureforum.com/gallery/19/86_16_10_14_12_39_26_0.jpg)
Mission complete the British make their way back to the beach before more Mexican reinforcements arrive

Actually this time we used Captasin Blood's version of the old Kill Zone rules which have previously been used for our pirate games.
The Little Lead Adventures were used to great effect in the smuggling game. :)

Brilliant scenario, AAR and pics chaps.
Lovely painting especially that fellow in the brown checked trews - capital!
-
Brilliant game!

Is anybody else getting some weird images on this thread, or am I tripping. Fantastic looking game btw, the games I've seen so far at BLAM were of the highest quality and I hope some of them end up in the Wargames media so others may appreciate them as much as we do on this forum.

Jeff
What images are you seeing?
-
There are 5 in total they include a photograph of a portly chap sat on a stool in Middle Eastern clothing, this looks like a certain members profile photo but I cannot remember which one. There's also an image of a large green block with white eyes and a red tongue. Another image of what looks like a Circuit board diagram again the green block appears without eyes and tongue and finally a partial photograph of the game down the left side of one of the entry's.
Never seen anything like this on here before and I swear I'm not abusing any substances lol.

Is was a cracking looking game gents I think I have some pictures of my involvement in the second game.
Was it Giles that rolled the gun powder, he done that in my pirate game.
-
Brilliant collection of eye candy piccies.
:-* :-*
The game was lovely to behold, and even more so due to the addition of the Ass.
:D

I wouldn't put it past De'Ath either, after his antics with the prisoners in the VBCW game.
:o :o

I still maintain that was a legitimate tactic, not entirely my fault that the negotiations went bad! lol lol

Sounds like my profile unless there's an imposter!!!!....but I'm not seeing it other than where it's supposed to be!
I'd lay off painting for a while til whatever you're on wears off! Mind you I haven't updated the software in my iPad either ...eek

IIRC most of them are converted Victrix Napoleonic British Infantry (plastic). Converted and painted by Captain Blood, right?
-
Right now that's sorted, cheers James :) Anybody tell me more about the rules your talking about? Are they on the forum anywhere?

I do believe that the variant Kill-Zone rules were last seen on the back of a cigar box in the possession of Captain Blood as he was led to the scaffold, whereas the Little Lead Adventures are being finalised by Dr De'Ath and should be available soon (ish).
I could be wrong on one or both points, though.... ::)
-
Well done Nick - good battle report (I can't believe you've picked up this ghastly 'AAR' jargon too... ::))
;)
Didn't realise Dr De'Ath had snapped so many piccies. What a good chap. Nice work.
We should point out that this was the first game we played. The second game was rather different (although the Navy won on both occasions). Good fun, and an unusual setting anyway.

No, but I can email you a set if you care to PM me your email address...

Yes. You can see the 'FCT-P-AAR' ('force construction thread pre-After-Action-Report') here... http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=40047.0

I get that all the time on my iPad. It's something to do with Safari, cookies, and images from certain sites getting scrambled into all the wrong places the next time you go back to that site. Only seems to happen on some sites though. Happens for me very occasionally here on LAF. Happens all the time with the Guardian site. Results in some very interesting and arresting juxtapositions of images and headlines! :D
As James says, you just need to go into Safari settings and clear cookies. That'll cure it.
Until the next time...
-
Richard I'm glad I'm not the only one with an iffy IPad lol. I'd very much like a look at those rules so I'll pm you my e mail address, thanks
