Just in case you haven't noticed...

Already funded within less than a day! :o 8)
Very interesting but unfortunately not for me, since have more or less all of the minis already in metal or resin. ;)

While I probably won't dive in on the KS...I'd definitely not be opposed to checking out the boxed game when released. I love me some mecha, so I'm just happy to see new stuff being produced/supported.
-
I recently just sold my heavy gear arena set, mostly because the minis are a pain to assemble in metal with so many fiddly bits. In plastic however these should be great. I guess I'll be getting in of this. Looks like good value already to me and if it goes strong there should be a load more freebies.

Judging by the bases, this is a hex-based thing - similar to Battletech? Or is there a free-wheelin' version of the tabletop game?

IIRC bases are for weapon facing and turn rate of vehicles. Movement is free range.

As YPU said, otherwise check the free Beta rules...

;) ;)
For me the rules are a bit too complicated, but the core mechanics are great.

I'll be skipping this one, but I have a few gears that will end up as "protomechs" for my 10mm alpha strike and if the game plastics are as good as the metals I have, then this will be a pretty amazing Kickstarter.
Any word on whether these are polystyrene mechs or some sort of horrific "spincast plastic".

From their FAQ on the KS page:
What type of plastic do you plan on using?
We are still investigating the many options available to us and want to make sure the models retain the basic shape they are cast in. So we believe that one of the harder types of plastics like styrene will be the best choice.
-
With quality plastic kits they could beat CAV out for attracting new customers. The BONES stuff looked pretty weak for CAV (that did get funded though right?).
-
These look so much better than CAV though. Dynamic poses does it I guess.
-
Assuming this kick-starter keeps growing in the same way KS's like these generally do there will be a lot of stretchgoals reached, which would make the basic set including the goals a very decent starter set. However I like many others here currently am not interested in starting with this game, if some of my more regular opponents expressed interest in this I would consider splitting the box I suppose.
Beyond that I would only be interested in the miniatures once they get released to the general market, I could use some of those Gears for 15mm mechs.
-
Glad to hear that styrene is a top contender. HG really has set itself up as a premium product, and a less quality material would definitely be a step down.

The CAV bones looked all right, and the kickstarter did quite well, but they're also priced as befits a lower tier material.

I'm in it under the assumption that it'll be delayed at least an extra year, DP9 doesn't have the greatest track record to begin with when it comes to releases and not even knowing what material it will be at this point doesn't inspire much confidence. It'll be the first time I've given them any money in nearly a decade, I went full-bore for Jovian Chronicles and was waiting for that game to get more releases...and waiting...and waiting...and waiting...
Never cared for Heavy Gear's Not-VOTOMS nearly so much as Jovian Chronicles Not-Gundam, but I've been in a 10mm kind of mood for some reason and this looks like it'll be a good amount of minis when it does finally get made and big stompy robots are big stompy robots!

I'm not quite up to date, but the game was originally built on hexes and every time I've looked (including some version of the latest beta rules), the hex heritage has been present very heavily: everything is measured in multiples of 60 degrees.
If they finally managed to ditch hexsides from at least Gear movement, it's a step in the right direction.
I'll be passing... I got a bunch of VOTOMS models a while back and I'll be building a game around them.
Teaser time:

I have to say that I like the direction the KS takes, already overfunded and the cool pledges fall by the minute.
Even for an old fart fan like me this KS holds some real value.
I already have for example most of the Northern and Southern minis, but the CEF and Caprice minis adds value to me.
I am especially looking forward to the Caprice mounts. 1st, I do not already have them, 2nd these mounts can serve double duty as SWTOR Droids etc!
And announcements like this makes me really happy, brings back some nice nostalgia.
“Plus for all our old school fans, our original artist, Ghislain Barbe, is back and will be doing the cover for the book.“

Almost enough to get me to spend cash !
I've followed, though not played the HG universe in all it's incarnations, but I just have too many other things to divert my attention
-
Oh well, I went ahead and chipped in anyway.
HG is a game that I very much wanted to like but never did (and DP9's attitudes didn't help any).
But this is simply the cheapest source of 15mm-ish walkers right now...

Me too... ;)

I only had the best experiences with them. Both as a customer and licensee!
-
It's looking pretty good. I hope it isn't too much for them though.
-
I just pledged because the deal looks pretty solid. I'm working on a generic all-consuming mecha set of rules...so I figured I could use a few more avenues to run it. And, I always like random big boxes of stuff showing up on my doorstep.

I feel I need to clarify this.
I bought the original first edition and pretty much all the books they had out at the time, but didn't really get around to playing it.
Soon afterwards they came out with a revised edition with some minor changes in the rules. Having just bought the books I asked what the changes might be.
Their answer was: "You have to buy the new books to know."
They lost me right there. As far as I know, the differences amount to a few sentences and wordings, so we're definitely not talking about a completely new edition here.

Oh my, that sounds bad indeed...

That was long ago.
I see that Marc A. is no longer with the company, which may at least partly explain your positive experiences.
I'd love to link Marc's rant about the fair price of gaming books here, but I can't find it easily.
