Title: (Kickstarter) Oathsworn Miniatures Heavy Warbots
Post by: Earther on 27 October 2014, 03:11:39 PM
Just a heads up that Oathsworn are running a Kickstarter to give their previously limited run of heavy warbots a proper release!

I bet they'd work well in Rogue Trader.

That's what we said when they came out. Nice to see these get some  screen time again Mike.

Are the future war spec ops team coming back too?

Cheers

They might be... but to be honest, every time I look at them, I just think I could do them better! The legs were too far apart, for one thing.
I've still got all the dolly parts though, so I might try putting some together, and see how they look. If I can get them to be one-piece casts, instead of the annoying 'separate gun/hands' thing, that would make me happier. And it would make them cheaper too, which always helps !

They're robots, they're allowed to be a bit here and there.  :)

Yep, that's them.
Although I had sculpted 3 different helmets, and now I think I used the wrong one. I prefer this one:
(http://oathsworn.net/trooper.jpg) Today, anyway. Tomorrow, I'll probably change my mind!

In other news, the robots are funded!

Oh yeah I've backed for three robots.

Michael I've asked about adding to the ledge calculator squads of hard sci-fi troopers, could that be doable?

Also how about tracks or thrusters as an option swopout for the robot legs? Very Rogue Trooper/Rogue trader.

I think I've  now got my Nort AMOKS. :D

Not keen on that.helmet personally.  i have to say. Halo Reach and 4 introduced the notion to me of visorless helms with cameras, sensors etc rather than a nice big visor. I like the concept  mind.

I like your bots there lovejoy.

And I agree with you (today  :D) and Scurv, I much prefer this helmet to the other.

My advice would be to do the main bulk as a single piece and a seperate head - perhaps attached via the slotta tab. That way, you can provide seperate packs of alternative heads.

I'm thinking a little along the lines of Pig Iron or Crooked Dice. I think it works as it allows people to add their own heads if they like, perhaps do an officer bare headed with his helmet fastened to their hip or back etc.

I can see these looking nice, and also agree that I think your sculpting has come along since you first did them so can understand why you may want to bring them in line with what you can do now.

Also, because I think it's just becoming habit, I really, really, really liked the alien sculpt you did!  ;)

These are great. i wasn't sure about the narrowness of the body from the front but thinking about the shape it makes alot of sense.  narrow  target presented to frontal attacks and a shape that looks perfect to deflect attacks. Ace  :)

I can't really add troopers to the KS, because the moulds are really bad at casting, and getting all new ones done would be too expensive... but I do have a pile of castings still in a box, so we'll sort something out between us.

Tracks and thrusters sounds cool - I might just have a look at doing that...

Personally I would have prefered those big fellows to have the chicken leg style leg.
See, now I'm just thinking I need to do a Mk2 version with chicken legs - I can feel the Milliput calling me! :D

That makes sense - it's always nice to give options.

That makes you, me, and some guy from the Netherlands... we should form a really exclusive club! Comfy leather chairs, single malt, and little green men. ;)

Yep, that was the plan - narrow front, good deflection etc. The fact it would be easier to fit into a two-piece spincasting mould never crossed my mind... :D
Actually it was mostly because I like the old Rogue Trader dreads better than the newer boxy ones. And now I've said that, I want to sculpt an updated Rogue Trader dread...

And an updated Rogue Trader dread?  :o  Yes please!!

It was this one from the Frothers sculpting comp:

And I do love Rogue Trader dreads - narrow body, long legs for preference. I don't mind the wide body, but I don't really like the short leg versions... just too dumpy!

I was looking at the old Workbench thread I did on here about making the warbot, and I realised that the pics were missing - they were hosted on an old site, which I don't have any more.
So I've uploaded the pics again: Thread linky (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=42600.0)

I've also pinched the text and pics to use as an update on the Kickstarter too... :D

Pledged for three. :)

I pledged for three 'bots as soon as I saw them.  They are a great looking design suitable for a broad range of uses, generic in a good way.  I have mine lined up for RT and Dredd games for starters.

I dont want to derail this thread... but I cant help myself in this instance.  I really want to get my hands on one of those little Frothers sculpting comp aliens if possible.  Another great looking design.

And don't forget about the alternate right arm with no weapons!

(And you thought this would be an easy KS... ha! lol)

Thanks for the support guys!

For reals? If so I will get 3 with chicken legs and even back a KS (which I loathe and detest at the best of times)

Have you thought about 3d sculpting as well. Nothing wrong with your putty pushing (AT ALL!)  but seriously it makes life easy doing certain parts in 3d. If you want I can PM you some pics of 3d mecha components I have made and swap notes. I have found a really user friendly program built for 3d noobs.

I'll not get chicken legs done in time for this project, unfortunately - I have a rule that I won't include anything that isn't sculpted by the time the project closes. But on the plus side, it means you won't have to give in a back a KS!  ;)

As for digital sculpting, I keep being tempted... I'm just not sure I fancy it. I know it will be much better for mechanical stuff especially - but I really like putty! If I can bring myself to take the plunge I'll let you know, and pump you thoroughly (for information, of course!) :o

And don't forget about the alternate right arm with no weapons!

(And you thought this would be an easy KS... ha! lol)

Again though, it won't be ready in time for this project. I've got time booked with the mouldmaker for production moulds, but it'll be a couple of months until he can fit me in for more master moulding and casting. So the two-handed bot will have to wait, I'm afraid!

On the positive side though, we've unlocked the support drones - which are now available as a pledge level on their own, and as freebies with the various warbot pledges, and some wrecked models...

The added goodies are really nice Mike! Which wreck variant is not included in the Beta pledge?

The Robot wreck is the one not included in the Beta pledge Mattias.

That boost the the pledges is great, very substantial :D

Alright - bummer, but makes sense. =)

Fully agree, the additions changed it all from a nice shopstarter to a good value kickstarter. Nice one Lovejoy!

What's the price per wreck Michael? Drones as well?

It's £3 for the wrecked warbot, and £1 for the other two - so £4 for all three (add-ons pic below). But you get the two drone wrecks with your pledge anyway, Mark.

My three Warbots (and the drones) arrived today - and I am well-pleased to have supported this Kickstarter.
The bots are crisp, have a very menacing look, and are useful for sci-fir, supers or whatever takes your fancy (bots vs zombies?). They promise to be fun to paint.
The little drones are brilliant - they can also be used as tanks or fliers in 6mm scale, sothey've got a variety of uses; and they're also nice little models.
The wreck markers (one of each drone) are nice objective, loot, or plain old wreckage markers - very nice too.
The price was good, the plastic box they came in useful, and it also did its job of getting them here safely.

I agree 100% with everything that Vanvlak said about this.  I will keep an eye out for the next Oathsworn sci-fi KS for certain.

The robots are just lovely.  Great sculpts and exquisite castings and not too fiddly with minimal numbers of parts.  Absolutely top notch.
