I was swithering about putting this thread in the fantasy forum or here but I decided to split it as that would be most fitting so I'll post a link at the bottom for the fantasy bit.
Basically I've had a interest in Elizabethan/Tudor warfare for a while, even before TAG brought out there gorgeous range, and I've focussed on the Dutch Revolt but long term want to be able to use the figs for the French wars of religion as well (then I can buy the Gendarmes from TAG!)
Anyway I started off with the idea of building 'companies' of 16 figs plus a officer and a standard bearer. The first unit I completed was a unit of spanish musketeers (i think I've posted them before)
And apart from basing and the officers I've got a Dutch/Rebels/Huguenot unit painted
(https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-BiqEqw4ABFM/VDLh9vxESmI/AAAAAAAACCo/im-qXAXKlic/s640/blogger-image--421524709.jpg)
A second unit of spanish, this time arquebusiers, is about half way through
(https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-EExJtPgsrGA/VFD_Sv7hRdI/AAAAAAAACHs/ZWbGanFDug4/s640/blogger-image-1101659819.jpg)
A third unit of spanish has also been started using the classic citadel estalians. As there are only three poses I've had to do a bit of head chopping
(https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-PPn4CQRr26Y/U9Uk4cpUXaI/AAAAAAAABj0/wRElQg3pBtY/s640/blogger-image--942967855.jpg)
as well as using the Gamezone imperials with and without head swaps
(https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-xt92PCbgMG8/U9Umylz-hcI/AAAAAAAABkA/v6tU-4I-P3k/s640/blogger-image-379751235.jpg)
The plan is to use Donnybrook for rules and count the spanish as elites so that they will at first get only two companies. The Dutch will be of lesser quality so will get three companies of arquebusiers, a small unit of halberdiers and small mounted unit, maybe Reiters
(http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g137/coljmurray/IMG_1445.jpg)
or maybe argoulets /mounted arquebusiers.
Anyway that's the plan for playing large skirmishes, or 'actions', which I'm really looking forward to...
Then these happened......

are those Gamezone miniatures in your first picture?
-
The officer and standard are foundry but the troops are gamezone with some head swaps.
-
Ahh, the later 16th century! Miserably underrepresented in wargaming, despite a great variety of theatres for all kinds and scales of brawling. Thus looking forward to what you're up to. Great start so far. :)
-
These look fantastic mate. Not something I had ever been intrested in before but consider my curiosity piqued.
-
Fascinated to see where you are going with these. You may want to give Eureka's Conquistadors (both Spaniards and Portugeuese) a look (they have, for example, some very useful light cavalry and mariners - all of which fit very well in scale with Foundry's Swashbucklers).

In addition Sgt. Major's borderers, although not as detailed, work quite well also :

Thanks for the comments guys, I'll post more figs as I get them done. I reckon the spanish arquebusiers aren't far off being finished and I've converted and undercoated an officer for the guezen company, just need to get them painted and based and I'll show them off. As as the eureka and Sgt major figures, I've got some of the former and a shitload of the latter! They'll get used as I expand the project and to big set piece battles (in about 5 years or so lol )

Are the resin heads from Maximini?
Great stuff by the way.
-
Yes Mr Warburton, the resin heads are Maxmini.
While I've been motivated I've painted an Officer and an Ensign for my first dutch unit.

which means that, now that I've based them, I finished my first unit of Geuzen.

Another unit of Spanish aren't far behind, Arquebusiers this time. I've just got another 13 to finish off but hey should end up looking like this lot

I like the officer in the cape. Is that a Bicorne head on the Foundry sea dog body?
-
Yes it is. Bicorne were nice enough to sell me packs of Burgonet heads.
-
Lovely project and great work on the conversions, where you based mate blighty?
-
Indeed, I'm a scot stuck down south, beds to be exact.
-
Drop me your address mate i have a couple of foundry ogres you can have :) should fit in with your project
-
Thanks! :)
The Dutch look really excellent. It is a fascinating era of history.
The Spanish additions likewise look fantastic.
-
Very fine painting. I particularly like the Dutch. I see your are planning to use a Warhammer pistolier as a Reiter/Dutch Cuirassier (I have a few for that purpose too).
-
I really like these. I've never understood why the Dutch Revolt isn't more popular with manufacturers. The only range designed specifically for it I'm aware of in 25mm / 28mm is the old Essex range from the early 1980s. I'm not sure who the sculptor was. Someone once told me it was a young Mark Copplestone but I've seen on the web someone say it was Aly Morrison.
I think the Foundry Swashbucklers are great figures. I'd have used them myself but sadly they're just too tall to fit in with the other figures I'm using.
-
Very fine work.

I'm utterly frazzled due to the recent arrival of a Whiskey miniature (he's 3 weeks tomorrow and s determined to make sure there isn't a minute in the day that he isn't feeding!) however I have scrabbled enough time to finish off the Spanish Arquebusier Company.

Thats the two main units of Spanish i need initial for the planned Donnybrook game. I still need to do a unit of mounted arquebus, a mounted commander and a couple of 'gentleman of the tercio' to complete the spanish force but I should do another dutch unit first. Here's another shot of the company with some of the 4ground buildings I've also managed to build.
and a little present in the post this morning. Some of the citadel estalian swordsmen. There will be a little bit of head swapping but they'll probably end up being part of a sword and buckler unit in the future.

Excellent work. I would love to get some of the old Estalian figures but they are sadly just too expensive now.
-
Lovely, lovely work. The Spainards are wonderful.
-
Wonderful work on the Spainards and those 4ground builidngs.
