Title: Lion Rampant fantasy....
Post by: Harry von Fleischmann on 02 November 2014, 01:22:46 PM
I picked up a copy of this a few days ago and am thinking about using it for fantasy games, there are some basic ideas in the back pages. I'm thinking of using a unit of cultists, mad priests and acoloytes as a 12 strong archer unit that just throws arcane bolts instead of arrows and using 3 troll figures with 4 hits each etc but has anyone any thoughts about say a Conan or Fafrhd & Mouser type unit of heroes? Just park them in with the rest of a unit? Let Conan fight as 12 or 6 men? I think a unit of 6 bidowers would be good for say a unit of thieves guild types or adventurers.....Anyone else thought about this.

There is a thread about exactly this somewhere on the first page or two.  ;)

I was intent on doing very much the same thing.

I don't think it really needs any special rules. The unit types are pretty broad and abstract already -- and I quite like that myself. Very DBA/HotT in flavor.

Quite frankly I'm not sure the game even really needs figure removal. You could just mount everything on a single unit base and mark hits on it.

We're discussing it here - monkeylite has just put up some cool magic rules:

Phil Smith (the game's publisher...) suggested using fewer figures with more hits for big monsters, and the "expert" rule to represent heroes.  So yeah, you have a unit with x hits dealing y damage - could be 12 men, 4 trolls or a single dragon.

Adding special rules for characters is also a possibility.  Having a ranger hero with your yeomen or serjeants might remove their rough-ground penalty.  Or roll on the Leader table.
