Title: Maze runner game
Post by: Miniman on 16 November 2014, 10:59:08 PM
Just wondering as I can't seem to find anything on this site (Or any site) pertaining to Maze Runner as a board game.
Does anyone know if there is any?
My grandson is really into this book/movie and I was thinking of trying to put a miniature game together.
Any Idea's?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Labyrinth_%28board_game%29 is as close as I can think of.

I'm sure you could find the rules and standard tile-set for Labyrinth online. (BGG?) and then simply make your own more appropriate looking tiles with the same effective layout. Could be fun. I always thought Labyrinth would be cool to adapt to a war game, in fact its part of the inspiration for a skirmish game I have been writing for ages now... should get back to that.  >:(

Don't know ANYTHING about it, but from what a friend has been saying, sounds like it would be intriguing to use Heroscape rock tiles and walls to build the maze.

YPU - you and me both (but my project, in the "planning stages"  ::), is more based on the film 'Cube').

Thanks for the comments.
von Lucky that link is a great start.

The maze part of this would be interesting as a fun family type game, of course jacked up in miniatures.

I was thinking each gamer gets a runner with basic weapons
and must survive a night in the maze ultimately getting out.
Of course there would be nasty Griever things to deal with.

The trick will be how to operate the maze. It should be changing as it does in the book/movie.
Randomizing the wall segments to move on die rolls might work.
Maybe using the numbered zones.

That would be the easiest way. If you had 3 columns and 3 rows that moved, you would just roll a D12 - for moving the columns up or down and the rows left or right.

I ran a labyrinth game a while back where the walls moved. The original idea was to slide them but that became difficult with a board sized for 28mm figures so I went for rotation instead. The walls were put on a section and at the end of each players move they could rotate any section by 90 or 180 degrees. Made for an interesting game at certain points, do you rotate a wall to open an easy path for you or rotate a different wall to close off the path of your opponent?

I think I have a kids game called pyramid or sphinx or something like that that also has rotating wall sections with adjacent floors and rules a bit like dewbakuk mentioned. Not at all suited for war-gaming I think but I seem to recall the system making for a very dynamic game board.

The Alien vs. Predator Heroclix map (for the temple) had some nice basic rules for moving walls that would randomly open or close every turn, might be a good place to start.

Based on the trailers I've seen these are teens? Either 20mm moderns/zombie/sci-fi ranges or 28mm Hasslefree children/teen would be my suggestion.
