Title: New 28mm British in home service uniforms
Post by: Malamute on 24 November 2014, 04:57:31 PM
Queen and country Miniatures, a new company just starting out providing 28mm Brits in home service uniforms with a nice choice of separate heads: Spiked helmet, bearskin, Glengarry or Pill box cap.

They promise to extend the range further if the figures are well received. :)

They look quite nice.

My only reservation is the officer, which could use a much more dynamic pose.

I would also recommend that they offer heads with the home service helmet.

The figure standing firing has an odd neck.

The figure standing firing has an odd neck.

I think thats because its a separate head and it probably needs to be fitted properly.

???

I think he means as a seperate piece, currently come with the figures but not as a head pack.

They certainly have charm, if they had been around five years ago I think they would have cleaned up - there were endless posts asking where to get some.

Do we know who is behind them and the sculptor?

Future additions could be very interesting

Morning all. These minis are mine - well, mine in that I commissioned them (I literally have no skill as a sculptor). They were sculpted for me by eBob. I've always wanted to produce my own line of figures so this is me living the dream!

Hadn't noticed the neck, I suspect it's the photo, although it's the first figure I put together. I angled the neck so that it looked like he was aiming down the barrel and *may* have overdone it. There are photos of unpainted figures on the website www.queenandcountryminiatures.co.uk please feel free to take a look at those.

Lots of ideas for future releases, but really does depend how these sell...

Hmmm, working ok for me on my phone and work PC? Is anyone else having problems? I did have a nightmare setting the website up!

The website is working fine for me.

Good luck with the venture I hope you sell enough to expand the range. :)

Now you're teasing us. Perhaps you would indulge us with some of your plans (funds permitting)?

Yep, tis what I meant. A separate head pack made with the home service helmet.

Where to start!

Guards infantry would be quite easy, just a few tweaks to the existing dollies.

Would like to do cyclists (including a cycle towed machine gun)

Artillery and cavalry are on the list

Coming from the Isle of Wight and being surrounded by Victorian defences I'd also like to do some Coastal artillery and crew, but that's way down the list

All needs to be self funding though, so it'll be a case of ploughing any profits back into the business.

 ;)

Cavalry would be great to see, lancers, life guards, hussars and the artillery. ;D

Good luck I hope it goes well for you and get to fund your dream. :)

Nice figures 8)

HLBS do have a nice selection of costal artillery already... British crew could be useful for VSF players indeed

Best of luck  :)

Once the main bulk of the range is done, civvies, character types and officers of note always go down well  8)

cheers

I received a few packs of these figures today.

Now, as a caveat, many fellow VSFers know I am a fussy git when it comes to figures in Home Service uniform so here goes with a quick review.

In my opinion these figures are cracking. The casts are crisp, detailed and well defined. The heads are separate but very easy to attach which is a bonus if you go for any of the other head options. Some of the poses are refreshingly original compared to similar ranges and the figures are well proportioned.  They scale up well with Ironclad and Redoubt, so if you already have any of those figures in your collection (as I have), the Queen and Country figures will compliment them nicely.

I contacted Jon at Queen and Country before making my purchase and he was punctual and very helpful indeed. A pleasure to deal with.

It's not often I put my neck on the line but I recommend these figures and any additions to the range will be eagerly anticipated.  :)

Slightly off topic, but these might be useful for the VBCW crowd (especially the separate heads), so I've added this range to my VBCW Minis Guide website :D

I seen how tall he is ,not getting involved  ;D

My package arrived Tuesday, seeing as I only paid for them on Monday excellent service.
From my initial quick look I concur with Thunderchicken regarding quality of casting and scaling up with Ironclad, helmet size is similar to Ironclad but smaller than PofW company from North Star and the old Wessex range....if anyones worried about helmet size  :o
Although not a expert I think they are armed with Martini Henrys and have the 1881 equipment

I bought  enough busby heads  to do the unit  as Fusiliers, I also bought a pack of Glengarrys and Pillbox heads.

I know I can look this up... but being a lazy 'git' , with the exception of the helmet are there any other differences between Zulu War uniforms and undress/marching order Home Service uniforms of the  1880's ? I have some WF plastics somewhere in the mountain and was going to try the heads for scale

I'd like to second (or is that third or fourth by now?) the comments regarding the rather splendid quality of these figures; they're very crisp & look like they won't require much in the way of cleaning up prior to painting.  As far as size go, they appear to be 1-2 mm taller than Redoubt Enterprises' Home Service Dress redcoats - I haven't built mine yet, so have based this comparison on shoulder-to-shoulder height.  (The extra height is ideal for me as I'm teaming mine up with some 32 mm steampunk ladies for my IHMN company, so these chaps will be a little less short than the Redoubt figures would have been.)

Assuming Lequeux gets the custom to justify expanding the range, I'd like to offer a couple of suggestions:

 - A suitably grizzled Sgt to provide a level of command between the chaps & the officer.

 - Some VSF/Steampunk weapon options, in particular an IHMN-style arc rifle.  (Possibly a somewhat controversial suggestion this one, but I'd like to be able to add some weird science weapons to my otherwise historically accurate figures - a couple of regular Home Service riflemen who happen to have arc rifles on field trials.)
