I've had some fun researching a very unusual uniform coat worn in German Southwest Africa by the Herero Leader Assa Riarua in the 1890s, and then finding a figure that I could paint up to represent him as he might have appeared in the coat and trousers of the Guard du Corps and a model 1891 spiked Schutztruppe sun helmet! The figure is one of a pair of Natal Carbineers by Empress. You can see images of the figure more and read about Riarua and his cuirassier koller at my blog Cornflower Blue & Corduroy: http://omaheke.blogspot.com/2014/11/the-herero-kapitan-in-coat-of-kaisers.html (http://omaheke.blogspot.com/2014/11/the-herero-kapitan-in-coat-of-kaisers.html)

Great stuff! One of the main Hausa chiefs in Kamerun had a bodyguard in a Quasi-Prussian hussar uniform. Chris Dales " German Colonial Uniform",website has some nice plates and pictures of King Njoya personal troops,it's really cool. He also Prussian Kurrassieren uniforms.

Very nice Hausa image. Looks like he is wearing the officer's koller, with gold stripes instead of white.

Saw the mini good strong colours, I feel a wash would complete the look, add some shading into that fabulous coat.

Thanks very much for the suggested improvements. Am still getting the feel for painting so the advice is most welcome.

No problem for the longest time I never used shading at all, but now that I do it's a really good/lazy way to clean things up especially as i've started using a white undercoat a lot more.
I found this article useful as well as the one at the bottom about painting a roman tribune, http://www.warlordgames.com/painting-using-army-painter-quick-shade/
