I bought a new BOB building on eBay recently. It is an MDF constructed building from a fellow that I have bought from in the past. They are quite sturdy and I like the form but the paint jobs are just too bright and yellowish for my mud brick town. So, I spent the weekend repainting it and another market complex. Here is what it first looked like.

as commented before, everything comes along nicely. Also the pictures are nothing a bit of doctoring can't fix ;)
I especially like the large oasis town.
what doesn't work for me is the combination of buildings in the last picture. Not because of the variety of looks, but because the variety of building material. mudbrick architecture together with heavy timber framework doesn't really go consistently together. Neither do you build of mudbricks where it rains regularly so that trees can grow, nor do you transport large amounts of construction timber into arid regions where mudbrick constructions are sustainable.
similar goes with reed that grows only where there is a lot of water around the year.

Thanks for all the nice comments chaps. former user, I am in substantial agreement with your comment but I really don't know where to get mud brick buildings that are ethnically Chinese and I want a clearly Chinese quarter. The reed thatched buildings are more problematic. But I like them damn it lol lol

chinese mud brick? maybe with different roofs?
I thought I'd rather expect timber frame and such?
reed/straw roofs shouldn't be such a problem in east Asia

my first impression when I took a very brief survey of available pictures is that this "visibility" appears to be some typical attribute. Seems rather simple to reproduce in lasercut mdf?
