For all you Gurkha fans out there

And a suitably eccentric British officer to lead them into battle:

well done, Dominic!

I like them a lot. Thanks for sharing !

really good. I specially like how you painted the wood in the rifles. The gurkhas have a nice sun tan!
-
Excellent work! I can see them doing security at the local mall.
:D
-
And I´ll bet the officer will have a pickles sandwich for lunch! (For once, a pun that only works in German, and a bad one at that).
-
What kind of malls do you have near you that the Gurkhas need to provide security? :?:
I mean, not that some of the kids out front of Hot Topic couldn't do with a kukhuri across the throat...
Great work, Dominic!
-
I would imagine the officer will be eating a cucumber sandwich with the crusts cut off.
Nice painting. :)
-
Thanks guys!
Actually, I'm not so happy with the khaki I used. What do you guys think? Should be a bit more yellow? What shade would you use?
@Rich - yeah, I was also wondering where you live to have Gurkhas guarding your malls!
-
Who's going to criticize a Gurkha's khakis?
"Hey Jeevam, your khakis look a little to green..."
*slash*
-
It looks indeed a bit "senfgelb", ie mustard yellow", rather than khaki... but I know next to nothing about Gurkha uniforms, so I can´t really comment on it. Technically, it´s flawless, but the tone is just a bit off for my taste.
I really like the Vallejo Khakis, though... with such variety, it should be possible to find a basetone, or am I wrong? Then again, I´m always spoilt for choice between the six khakis I own... :D

Sorry, making reference to a news article about shopping malls in the UK hiring Gurkhas to do security.
Though, if you've ever seen a "doorbusters sale" on the weekend before Christmas her in New Jersey, you'd need Gurkhas to take down some of these crazed people.
-
I can't think of a better way to deal with chavs and the doorbusters mobs than Gurkhas. Unless it's Gurkhas with artillery support.

Maybe add some tanks for good measure?

Hey dominic ,
on my PC the khaki have a tast of green I think you must show me the figures on January.
But I have a question on all Gurkha fans why copplestone make them all the same ,I mean they make all the same action !!
I think Gurkas with ready kukhuri´s Would be so much cooler than these guys .
Is copplestone to lazy or did he haven´t the Time to make figures like he did in the old days ?
I am one of his bigest Fans but the Gurkha are bad and I do not know why because he have the skills to make them very very good .
Then ther is one question I know Gurkhas have brown skin color but aren´t they Asians ? I think to paint them more yellow because it where more Pulp style and it is different to my Indian troop´s .
what do you think ?

Hi Grimm
I also see that my khaki might be too green. Maybe I need to take a new pic with better lighting. Let me try again.
I don't know about Copplestone. He has nice figures, but his poses are all very similar. The same is for the Sikhs and Muslim infantry. Eureka has some nice Gurkhas in charging poses and with Kukri, but they are quite small minis.
As for the skin colour, they have lighter skin than Indians, but darker skin than Chinese. That is why I have used brown. But maybe my brown is also a bit too dark.

@ Grimm
They have all the same pose because of the Foundry School. I think he Copplestone ) cant get this out of his mind :)

That is so sad
it looks that it is importent to get the figurs to the marked vrey fast and not to make the best he can on the figures .
pulp figures maby done it better they sold a pack of figures maby Japanese in different poses and a unit pack withe the same figur ,so they have it for wargamers and ``adventurgamers``
@dominic
the Gurkha on the pictur is not a nice guy I think he can do his job very good

The Nepalese I´ve seen appear to have more of a tan complexion than the bronze of the southern and Han populaces...

It's an efficiency thing. One dolly can be used to create multiple variations of the same pose in half the time. When most figure companies work under the assumption that players want "units" for wargames, it makes sense.

I hope these pics are a bit better:
