I got some Tamiya 1/48 infantry boxes and started chopping some up to 28mm-ise them and make them into crew for those flying platforms I got a while back. I could have used some suitable 28mm minis, but I wanted them to have their hands actually on the controls, instead of just standing there with their rifle in hand.
Here's a WIP to see the fit:

I've got a couple more almost done. 28mm heads, shortening of legs, repositioning of arms, adding 28mm weapons. It's a bit of hassle, but I could never have done it with metal minis.
-
Right, the first three pilots are pretty much done. Heads are West Wind, rifles are BAM, rest is Tamiya and greenstuff.
A size comparison with BTD, Artizan and Copplestone:

Hurrah! Those are fantastic, wonderfully imaginative pieces of kit.
See? Weird War Two doesn't just have to be Battletech Mechs sprayed Olive Drab or tanks that have sprouted legs. This kind of thing is much more interesting, and in keeping with the period. Bravo.
-
Those turned out fantastic!

"Bloody Awesome!!!" :o :o
Very impressive work WK. You've done a brilliant job with those Tamiya minis!
Unusual, Weird but not over the top.
BTW: Where did you get the flying platforms????

Flying platforms are from Ebay. They are made by Takara. Search for combinations of "takara" and "flying platform" and/or "hiller" or "amazing weapons".
They come up fairly cheap fairly regularly.
They are 1/50 scale, so perfect.
-
Does the landship from that set come up often as well?
-
Totally convincing conversions, and great paintjobs as well.
-
Those are great and painted very nicely. My only comment would be the use of the pin on the base, next time you might want to try the clear flying base some companies make. No big deal just my opinion.
-
You are right about using a clear flying stand. I didn't have any handy, so I used pins, but I might order some and replace the pins.
Landship, no idea, but keep in mind that it's a fit to the box collection, so will be a much smaller scale.
-
Oh, I know. :)
-
Taking the suggestions made, I replaced the black pins by clear plastic flying stands. Looks much better now. :)

I like the flight stand better. Probably fits in that fan's hole better to.

wow! totally awesome !!
-
They're fantastic! Takara, you say? Must check it out!
If you get the time for it, try taking a group shot of all your weird war stuff, including the Cap and his sidekick... I might reconsider my reservations about the paintscheme when seeing it all together ;)
I have the WWW-bug, and I'm trying very hard to resist embarking on a WWW project before finishing some other stuff in the pipeline... :-I
-
I'll try to take a group shot of the Americans over the weekend.
-
Can't wait to see it on my return from London! :-*
-
Most of them have been shown here already anyway. ;)
-
I know, but I like pics with lot of stuff lol
-
Well, there aren't *that* many as the past month my side projects (Lucky Luke, Saint Seiya) have taken over a bit. :)
