Title: Pulp Alley in the "Verse"
Post by: NickNascati on 11 December 2014, 01:55:02 PM
Okay,
I am going to try Pup Alley in the Firefly Universe tomorrow with my son in law.  The basic premise is that Simon and Shepard Book have gone in search of medical supplies, and become caught in the wake of a Reaver attack.  Mal, Jayne and a couple military types are moving in to save them.
I gave the Reaver leader the "Commander" ability, so the Reaver force is 10 figures.  I'm really not sure how it will work, but we shall see.  Also, I made the Reavers more brawlers than shooters, as I see the as melee types.

Really cool! Looking forwards to your reports. I can see some nice ideas with abilities for all models.
What models are you using?

No specific Firefly models at all.  The Reavers are 40k Chaos Cultists, Mal is my Phantom Ace figure, Shepard Book, Simon and Jayne are Sgt. Major minis, and the troopers are Dreamforge Eisenkern troops.

All,
So we played the game, it went 8 turns.  It was a solid victory for the Serenity crew.  I think I vastly under classed the Reavers.  I made them basically pure melee types, as well as being followers with a single leader.  They had a single d6 for shooting.  Despite easily chewing up a couple groups of hapless civilians, the Reavers were mown down by the firepower of Mal and the gang.  The Reavers ended the game with one figure standing out of 10, while Mal and company lost a single allied trooper.
It was a fun game, but how to rate the Reavers needs to be reexamined.

Sounds like some kind of a last man standing scenario!  Did you use plot points?  If you use the 6 turn limit and plot points it might have been a little less of a slaughter.

I did have plot points and perils.  However, making the Reaver warriors all followers made them pretty useless.  As it turned out, Jayne and a hired trooper did most of the killing.  I may re-think the plot points for a re-play.  Maybe have Mal and company have to rescue so many civilians for points.

Or have a a Reaver leader and sidekick.

Or a Reaver Leader with the Companions perk (grants all alles an extra ability, but you cannot take a sidekick)?

That'd do it nicely!
