Scratchbuilt Areonef. The ship started as a shaped piece of wood found in a thrift store bin. The upper cabins and decks are paper mache boxes from a craft store The lower cabin was made from boxes and sheet cardboard. The portholes are washers and the rivets are googly eyes also craft store ( it sounds like a maraca when moved) The protruding gun platform is the lid of a plastic coffin. The sailors are Parroom Station and the marines are dismounted camel corps from Old Glory. The guns are from Deadlands on scratchbuilt pintle mounts. The Nef still needs some work but I'm pleased with it so far.

And so you should be pleased with yourself :)

Close ups of the crew. The sailors are from Parroom Station and came with a choice of heads, w/goggles or w/out. The marines are dismounted camel corps from Old Glory.

My, that IS fun!
Don't disabuse my hope that I gave some encouragement. Especially the part about 'just keep your eyes open to possibilities.'
That has the kind of lines that would gladden the lamented, though perhaps not late, Major General Reddering.
I especially love the generous upper deck space; I'm seeing cutlass duels already.

Wonderful. Love that top heavy pic with all the figures on...just expected it to turn upside down at the worst possible moment!

Thank you for the kind words gentlemen. Some photos of the Nef w/out crew & guns. It started as an oblong piece of wood, beveled on one side and flat on the other. The flat side had small cubes of wood nailed to it and there was a dowel sticking out of the narrow end. I have no idea what it was meant to be. The bottom cabin is built around the cubes, it's very sturdy and balances the upper decks nicely. The upper decks can hold 20 figs and 4 guns. Doug (The Beast) is right I have been influenced by the Major General's building techniques, I've got some Land ships I made years ago, I'll be posting them soon.

Doug (The Beast) is right...
Now, you've done it! :o

While we're spinning our wild dreams, too oft, and I've a pile of unrealized projects to prove it, the lesson was the game's the thing! You've nailed it in one.
I still can see cutlass duels on the deck; I'm already hearing Korngold themes in the background. ;D
