Title: Duke goes pulp
Post by: Duke Donald on 21 December 2014, 11:46:28 PM
I eventually ordered the Pulp Alley rulebook as well as all the supplements. My son who is thirteen is keen to play and I'll try to get the whole family involved. I've started working on the first league, and here's their leader Mandrake, Lothar will be next ...

Really, really cool! Love the skinny proportions, works very well on him.

Thanks for the nice feedback!

He's probably my best sculpt to date. Some details are a bit soft and his chest could be more muscular, but fixing these issues would require a lot of cutting and resculpting. I just added a tiny bit of volume on his thighs and but will leave him like that otherwise. Next picture of him will be with a paintjob.

I love the poise that he's got.

IMHO, he should be more about brain than brawn. I picture him as the quarterback whilst others provide the effort in the trenches. I agree that he needs slightly more mass around the thighs, but I wouldn't make him beefier in the chest; he doesn't need it.

I'm looking forward to seeing more.

Thanks also for the nice feedback Malebolgia and Chairface.

Now with some paint. I hadn't painted a mini for nearly two years. Several of my paints have dried out, including all the bright reds. I'll buy some Tamiya red to add some highlights on the cape. I relied heavily on my Citadel inks, which have been discontinued for at least five years. Given the light, it doesn't really show but I'll try to take better pictures tomorrow during the day.

I like the lanky look of this model. It really works for this character.

I just finished Lothar, Mandrake's sidekick. I gave him the outfit he had in the comics after 1965, as the earlier version is ridiculous even for pulp gaming. Besides, I'm  also planning to play in a postwar setting. Comments and criticisms are most welcome, particularly as I still have to do the final cleanup of the sculpt.

I eventually managed to paint Lothar. I just need to base them before they can thwart the evil plans of some villains
