Title: Blackwolf's Moratorium On Buying Stuff.
Post by: Blackwolf on 28 December 2014, 08:12:04 PM
Well chaps,
It's almost 2015,I shall be 50 in 5 months; retirement in 5 years. And it's time for me to stop buying toys! I have enough stuff to open a very strange and eclectic shop; from classic cars(I have two),to old optics and lets not talk about the figures...To all sorts of odd things.
So; I therefore declare a moratorium :o  on the buying of toys,in particular miniatures. There are however one or two exemptions lol :
Kow Yokoyama kits
Andrew Rae's Statuesque Miniatures
Tre' Manors Red Box Games
And last but not least Hasslefree

It is time to get on with it,and therefore; thanks to the Prof. I shall start a new thread in the Future Wars fora, and stuff will get done.

I thinks that's it ;)

Cheers
Guy

Well said Guy. I can not imagine that you or anybody in this hobby is able to stick to that. I can not count how often I swore to myself not to buy anymore miniatures or models or toys (cars are toys, aren´t they?). It simply does not work.

Same here.
I also have a moratorium on miniature buying with the exception of anything that is:
Shiny,
I want it,
Is cheap,
May want it for a future project that will never get started,
Looks like it's cheap on Kickstarter.
And is shiny.

You nailed it...
Seconded.
I have tried this over 2014, and Kickstarters and the odd second hand deal were my downfall. AND I also keep dragging in odds and ends to use for scenery, which doesn't help as they too add to the pile.
But I'm getting better - I haven't bought anything in 2015.  o_o

I have those too, still have to work til 70 at least... You're not telling me everything, are you?  ;)
At least I'm getting closer, as of this year my birth is farther away than my retirement.

Good plan in any case, to spend more consciously, though a moraturium is a going a bit far for me. The exceptions you posted are good ones, might as well limit yourself to excellence.

It´s the old world, Erik. It´s the same with me. You´ve got to have been professional soldier to quit at 55 or even better - fighter pilots in the Luftwaffe may retire at 41!
Guy on the other hand is living down under where milk and honey is free and retirement happens before you get rusty. Or so...

Europe, jewel of the civilised world, they say.... My arse!  :?
Well, at least we're not inundated in poisonous critters around these parts.

Retirement at 41 sounds awfully nice, but sadly I'm too old, too near-sighted and not nearly German enough to be allowed to join the Luftwaffles...
So for me it's either the lottery or marrying into wealth. Though the misses may object to me doing the latter...  lol

Sounds like your well on your way already then.  :)

Good luck with the Moratorium.  I'm limiting myself to only Hasslefree, Pulp Figures, Empress, Perry, and the odd ebay purchase.  lol

So do I lol

I reread my comment 'Um, ok Sounds good to me'.... I kind of meant the same thing.  I tell my Angel, after every big box arrives, "Ok, Honey this is it for a while!"  Then I forget another KS, backorder, or some such :D.  But in fairness, I'm holding off on buying stuff for a bit as well....
