Title: Some sculpts, elephant man WIP (head 99% done)
Post by: beefcake on 14 January 2015, 08:31:22 AM
A couple of frogmen I sculpted (and an Antwerp for my QFG project)
Frogmen are roughly 15mm from the bottom of the base to the top of the head.

And the Antwerp (yes it looks bollocks I know ;) but that's how it's meant to look)

Looking good but you need to trim off that spear head. It's hard to file greenstuff so you might want to consider re-sculpting it with miliput or a GS Miliput mix.

Yeah, wasn't really happy with it myself so I've removed it and will make it more like a harpoon with brown stuff. Thanks for the feedback.
More please!
I plan on making a few of the frogmen, enough for a small warband of them. Leader, wizard/priest, some bigger hulking ones maybe. And perhaps a few archer sorts

Nice. Like the froggies. Are they for 15mm scale or just small eople for 28mm?

Post by: beefcake on 23 January 2015, 03:26:25 AM
Small 28's. If they stood up properly like a human they would probably be closer to 28 but then again they are creatures so could fit 15 as well.

Mutant Centipede.
I got bored with the legs on this guy so just gave them a quick job in the end. I made the front claws a bit more menacing. I was also thinking about redoing his teeth but couldn't be bothered/couldn't think of a better way.

Nice sculpts. The centipede looks great as it is - as you said, it is a 'mutant' centipede, so you can add or leave off as many legs as you like!  :)

The Big Bug looks TERRIFIC...there's a bug around here that looks similar. GREAT WORK!

The frogmen look great, but that Centipede is amazingly creepy. He could be an Ankheg. Fantastic work.

Now remind me not to go near DeafNala's place. I really don't want to see one of those in real life.

Thanks A for all the kind words :)
DeafNala, I'd love to see a pic of the ones around your place! That sounds creepy.

Baba Yaga for my Quest for Glory project. I'm getting better at faces (better, not good)
As Baba Yaga is an Ogress she is quite tall, however the hunch brings her back down a bit. 28mm to the eyes and 33 to the hunch.
Originally I had sculpted a spider on her shoulder but that came off during a plummet to the ground that my wife apologised for  lol I may resculpt it but perhaps in the crook of her arm.

My favourite also. Hence the mini project. If I make enough and they look good I'll look into getting them cast. :)

This one may be being sold to someone for casting depending on when they can fulfill a kickstarter they have going. I've actually fixed it up a bit. Much better face and the front claws are better too.

Cool, so we may be seeing mutant millipedes in metal. Or resin?
Title: Re: Some sculpts, Baba Yaga
Post by: beefcake on 09 February 2015, 05:30:14 AM
Possibly resin. If this guy doesn't take them I'll probably look into getting them started for my own range of stuff, probably in metal though unless I can be bothered doing my own resin casting.

Baba Yaga looks amazing. You have some serious skill with green stuff.  (Yes computer, I meant Yaga, not Yoga.)

Wooo, very nice. The bug is creepy, but my fave is the Baba Yaga. I have a soft spot for old witch-women. Any plans for a build of her house?

I once made her house but sold it as part of a kislev army I had created. I'll put a pic of it up shortly. I've been thinking of making a new one. I was inspired when I saw some cool art about a house on the back of a giant chicken giving the chicken legged house a whole new spin. Thanks for all the compliments :)

Edit:pics added
Alas I have this no more. But it's good motivation to build another. Loads of other things on my sculpt list as well though.

That is a COOL & INSPIRING creation...both Chicken House & Witch! There are certain pieces that are worth revisiting; this is definitely one of them. Enjoy the next one you make!

Thanks.
After the Build Something contest with the Cave dragon I'm creating I'm thinking about creating a largish elephant man (that's actually and elephant, Although maybe giving it a name like Merrick or something might be suitable  ;D ) Then I'll probably look at revisiting the chicken house followed by some more frogs and maybe trogolodytes. Soo many ideas. Glad I'm back in the sculpting mood.

As a break from the cave dragon (whilst making the cave for it) I've started on the elephant man. It's going to be fairly large. Not as large as the cyclops I previously made but will be wide of girth. Head mostly done. Will rework the eye sockets. Ears are only an armature at this stage as I need to properly make them. The torso front is done. I'm thinking about what sort of clothing to give it. I'm thinking mostly naked but with a loin cloth or something similar.
Tusks still to do as well.

Just some sanding on the tusks to do so that they are nicer looking. I'm almost tempted to also make an actual elephant body for this guy along with the man body. But then I think of how much putty it will use!
Grenadier barbarian for scale.

I like that - the textured surface looks ready for painting.

For the bodies maybe use a balsa wood or cheaper clay armature?

Yeah. Using milliput is probably good for a base. Thanks.

Ressurecting a very old thread here but the frogs and Witch are now available from CPmodels if anyone is interested in them.
Oh, and I've started a sculpting blog of my own (yesterday or the day before) not much on there, and what is has been hastily written, but I'll be updating it with old and new sculpts (I have a crabman in the works)
