Title says it all, really. Have got tempted into doing part of Verdun 1916 (much inspired by Sidney Roundwood's blog and painting) and ordered a few Woodbine French from Gripping Beast to get started. I'm trying to get the paint jobs in as quick as possible, so these aren't exactly gallery quality; just coloured undercoat, base coat, wash and 1 highlight, mostly. Colour-wise, I definitely wanted my horizon bleu to look blue, with a bit of mud for effect. The bases were vexing as I'm used to putting all kinds of fantastic modelling vegetation products on my usual ones - looking at pics of Verdun, there wasn't a lot of vegetation left after the shelling. I think mud, wire, pools of water and debris will be the order of the day, though I did sneak in a grubby tuft of grass on one of these. Do you think that's OK?

They paint up pretty well don't they.

Nice, I do like those blues.

Very nice. Looking forwards to tangling with these.
I've been sparse with my own bases too, from reading about the battle it seems that just about everything was pounded into dust by the artillery bombardments.

Really nice work James 8) 8) 8).
How do they compare size wise with Paul's GWM Germans?

Yes, good game, although your ability to roll 1s and 2s when taking hits was staggering! :) We'll get you Huns next time..
