Title: WOTR recommendations
Post by: Ragnar on 16 January 2015, 01:31:53 AM
Hi all, I have an army of Front Rank Wars of the Roses army in progress but I find myself short of foot unit commanders and standard bearers.  I need one of each for every 12-24 troops.

I got some Foundry recently but they are a tad small compared to Front Rank.

Can anyone please recommend suitable figures that are compatible with FR?

I haven't got any, no seen any of the Renegade WoR mini's but Renegade are usually on the larger side and will not sit well with Foundry. As I say, I could be wrong as I haven't seen them 'in the flesh'.

There are some great comparison shots there but a lack of anything Perry Miniatures have done. They tend to be slighter than most but always have much more realistic and dynamic poses. The Twins are masters at their art. It's worth checking their site out- look at both the WoR ranges and the European Armies of their 15C ranges. The Agincourt to Orleans stuff will be too early for your needs.

Perry Miniatures:

Wars of the Roses (The Cousins War as it was known at the time):

European Armies:

I've successfully mixed Front Rank with Perry Miniatures before- it's amazing what a good coat of paint to help homogenise mixed figures on a base  (only on vignettes to make the characters stand out)- Henry V is a Front Rank model and the rest are Perry Miniatures from their Agincourt to Orleans range. There's no reason why the same could not be done with the respective Wars of the Roses ranges from both companies:

There's no prize, but that could be the first forum understatement of 2015.  :D

Excellent job as always though.  :)

You could buy add'l. FR figures for your units.  They have two figures that are standard bearers specifically, and there are other open-handed figures that could be used.  Most of the men at arms figures could pass as commanders IMO.

Yes, but Ragnar asked for something compatible with Front Rank, not Foundry.

Your minis are great, bytheway  :D

To be honest, last time that I looked on the FR site, I couldn't find the standard bearers and officers  ;D so I will definitely get that set but I will still be wanting some more variety.  The primary set of rules that I will be using will be Hail Caesar and my local group uses units with a frontage of 120mm (2 figures deep) so I want most of these to have their own command, just for aesthetics.
