Hi!
I've just started a new project on my blog. Under the header of Wargaming Warrior Women, I will present historical examples, discuss the availability of figures and describe scenarios.
The series kicks off with some general deliberations about how historical warrior women can be fielded in our miniature armies. Have a look at here: https://wargamingraft.wordpress.com/2015/01/16/wargaming-warrior-women/ (https://wargamingraft.wordpress.com/2015/01/16/wargaming-warrior-women/)
For those less interested in my ramblings, there is also a bibliography (https://wargamingraft.wordpress.com/wargaming-warrior-women/bibliography/) and a list of figures available in 15mm and 28mm (https://wargamingraft.wordpress.com/wargaming-warrior-women/list-of-figures-in-15mm-and-28mm/) - the list will hopefully grow, so if you find anything that's not on there, drop me an email!
Cheers

You may want to read Women Warlords: An Illustrated Military History of Female Warriors , 1989,
by Tim Newark - see: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Women-Warlords-Illustrated-Military-Warriors/dp/0713719656 may well help for ideas.

Illustrations by Angus McBride? oooh, I want to read that now!

Thanks for the hint, I know this book, it's nice but a bit dated. Some of the illustrations are … let's see homely lol Lipstick and braided hair all around!
Also, I just realized the link in my post above doesn't lead to my blog article but to the overview page… d'oh! I'll edit it…

Hi!
Black female archers fighting against El Cid? Yes, this actually happened. Find out more on my blog: https://wargamingraft.wordpress.com/2015/01/23/nujeymahs-archers/ (https://wargamingraft.wordpress.com/2015/01/23/nujeymahs-archers/)

What’s even better, Nujeymah’s archers are now fighting in my army – and they can join yours! I’ve had figures of them sculpted by the very talented Phil Murphy and cast by Griffin Moulds. As I’ve got more than I need, they are available for purchase via my blog.
Cheers

Hi!
Another new article on Warrior Women on my blog. This time it's about female gladiators. As always, it includes a list of figures in 28mm and 15mm.

Hope you enjoy it!

Interesting read.
How about covering Amazons next?
-
Let's not forget Scythian horse archers - a number of whom were women (based on grave goods found in some burials in Southern Russia). Also the tales of Viking shield maidens seem to have some basis in fact (again based on grave goods).

Thanks for the feedback! I plan to cover Amazons/Scythians somewhere in the future… next thing planned is Vikings. Basically I try to keep a semi-regular schedule with about one article per month and see where my interest takes me. I'm always open to suggestions though ;)

These articles are always such a great read, please do keep it up.
