Title: 2nd Cuirassiers - 19 Apr
Post by: janner on 16 January 2015, 10:25:14 AM: Regular followers of my blog will know that I've set myself the task of painting up a French Heavy Cavalry Division of two Cuirassier Brigades with support this year.

First up is the lead squadron of 2nd Cuirasisers c.1812:

Created in 1635 from an Ordnance company of Cardinal Richelieu and named Cardinal-Duc, in 1643 they were renamed the Royale-Cavalerie, and in 1791 the 2eme Regiment de Cavalerie. Their name changed once again in 1802 when the Regiment became the 2eme Regiment de Cavalerie-Cuirassiers. Finally in 1803, they were renamed the 2eme Regiment de Cuirassiers.

In 1812 their colours carried battle honours for Austerlitz, Jéna, Eylau, Friedland, Eckmühl, and Wagram, and for the invasion of Russia they served under GdB Bessières as part of Saint. Germain's 1st Heavy Cavalry Division.

These look really excellent!

Perry Cuirassiers are splendid and I have a few myself.

Mine are metal too and I've even got a mixed regiment of Front Rank and Perry's which go together surprisingly well.

I also still use some Foundry figures which in a separate regiment which still look good.

I'm aiming at a squadron per month amongst other projects to keep things fresh.

Post by: janner on 24 March 2015, 01:00:35 PM: Thanks. I'm starting off with two regiments, each of four six figure squadrons, plus a single squadron of lancers.

In Black Powder terms, each regiment will form a brigade of two medium size units (plus a small unit of lancers in one case) and horse artillery battery.

I'd eventually like to add the third regiment to complete the division :)

Based on the original plan, I'm over a third of the way now. However, I've just ordered enough lead from the Twins to add the third Cuirassier Regiment, extra commanders, and a second battery of horse artillery. :o

This will mean squeezing the batteries, commanders, and lancer squadron in amongst my other monthly tasks, but I thought that if I didn't crack the whole Division this year, I'd never get around to finishing it off ;)

I've a couple of troopers from 3a Cuirassiers already done and plan to complete the first two brigade command stands this month. So all should be fine ::)
