Title: Fallout Vault Dwellers and Radscorpions *updated 26/01 sentrybots finished*
Post by: zizi666 on 26 January 2015, 03:54:55 PM
Painted up a set of Brother Vinni's Vault Dwellers. They're still a bit shiny, but they'll receive a final layer of dullcote once they have their back number decals (which I'm still waiting for)
Junk is scratchbuilt except wrench and hammer which are 1/35 models pieces.

furthermore 2 radscorpions (plastic figures from a game called Myth)
I was a bit to enthusiastic with the red as the claws aren't supposed to have a red sheen, but I think I can get away with it  ::)

Nice job! I especially like the base ornaments.  ;)
The scorpions, are those the Stalker game ones?

Very nice zizi!! :-*

That homemade junk on the bases is fantastic. I need to borrow and act upon that idea.

Cheers
Matt.

The scorpions, are those the Stalker game ones?

They're from a game called Myth. Apparently they are called Stalkers in that universe :

It was rather time-consuming for such small items.
The race car is created from styrene rod: sharpened one end for the body en filed a gap for the driver (2 beads of putty) the wheels are discs cut from the same rod as the body.

The paint gun was a bit harder. I drew the basic shape in coreldraw and printed a couple to scale.
I cut out 3 and glued them together for thickness. added some fine metal thread that I straightened out and a disc from again the styrene rod for the paint reservoir.

Surgical Tubing is just some nylon wire I held next to a flame to deform.

Mighty fine work Zizi.

Question: How big are the scorps? Any chance of a scale pic with the Vaulties? I may pick up a few myself...

Scorpion sits on a 50mm MDF base, Vault Dweller stands on a 30mm Fenris base.
Those Scorpions aren't exactly cheap for plastic figs. €23 for the 2 IIRC.

Post by: zizi666 on 02 February 2015, 07:42:03 AM
Finaly got round to paint up another BoS paladin. One with a gatling laser this time :

No decals yet, so no numbers on the Dwellers and no BoS logo for this one's shoulder pad for now.

You're makng me want to start a fallout project more and more. Stop it  lol
Great work. I have the myth game too and love the scorpions. heresy miniatures also do a really good scorpion if you are looking for more variety. Roughly the same size too.

Thanks. I think I'm ok with Scorpions. Besides these I got hold of 2 others on the bazaar : one painted and another model unpainted (no idea what manufacturer, but both metals) and then I also have the Pardulon model (resin and a whooping 9cm long...) but I have yet to put that one together.
that said, I wouldn't mind finding some small Scorpions to represent the Bark Scorpions.  ::)

Nice minis.

For small scorpions there are some available from Reaper bones. I have them in my thread too.

Here we go

Hey that glowing one doesn't emit radiation does it? Hmn, I'm not sure I want to stick around here to finish my comment if it does...

* zips up Radiation Suit

...Ok, I should be fine for another few lines, but all that ticking doesn't has me a wee bit concerned (were they supposed to poke holes into this thing when they strap on all the armour?).

Ooh another Deathclaw to add to the pack Messyart's sent out. It'd be nice to see a line up of everyone's painted ones at some point. Till then that turned out great. Hmn, I like the base. Is that just polystyrene or something?

Oh I saw you post about those scorpions in the pinned thread. Is that larger one from the same source by any chance? I'm just wondering how much money you're sending those people. ...Youknow as a legitimate concern for your wallet and not just prying about where to source minis from. ...Being a concerned citizen and such.

Right I know my skin shouldn't be crackling that light and these antenna I've grown are becoming uncomfortable in this suit. ...You're sure I can't be irradiated over the internet right? Ah, Ok time to see if all those points I put into medicine were worth it (heh, my train's coming into the station in other words. Anyhow, nice to see you putting out more stuff. Great as always). :)

Oh dear, no idea why I haven't answered your post yet  ???

The base is an MDF lasercut base where I glued some sculpture block ( http://www.sculptureblock.eu (http://www.sculptureblock.eu) ) onto and sculpted the rocky pattern. I had to do that since I mispositioned his arms when glueing and his claws come lower than his feet  ::)

Not sure which larger scorpion you mean ? My really large one is just finished and will be posted in the next message here  :D

Added a giant albino radscorpion to the collection :

This resin baby measures 9,5 cm from pincher to tail and comes from Pardulon miniatures.

Wow, that's realistic. I've wondered about taking casts of actual creepy crawlies (dead ones) for minis. Probably wouldn't work too well.
Title: Re: Fallout Vault Dwellers and Radscorpions *updated 26/11 with office desks*
Post by: zizi666 on 26 November 2015, 06:36:49 PM
Latest efforts have been focused on Incursion (WWW2), but when I brought 2 office sets (Ainsty) back from a 2nd hand stand at Crisis I had to slap some paint on those desks.
I was in doubt of filing off the cables and mouse/mousepad for a more Fallout look, but decided to keep 'em as they are.

Very nice, but the PC stands out a bit now, maybe a filter or 2 to tone it down to IBM beige?

I wish I had had the time to visit the Bring and Buy at Crisis, you seem to have found the good stuff! Maybe a(nother) trip to Ainsty seems to be in order next year.

No experience with filters yet.  :?

Didn't feel like queuing in that crowd, but as luck would have it, a friend did and noticed a guy selling plasticville buildings. He knew my interested in that stuff, so he dragged me along and lo and behold, besides cheap plasticville he also sold cheap ainsty stuff  8)
It really was my deal of the day.  :D

Filters are dead easy mate, just a small smear on the pc would be sufficient and then a brush wetted down with (preferably odorless) thinner to smear that bit all across the pc will tone it down quite nicely. When in doubt, add more thinner to remove 99% of it. Give it a try, it opens a whole new painting doorway.

I wish someone would make a Fallout correct PC in resin though. I could use a dozen of those easily.

now you can get lead out of them, which will come in handy once I learn how to lead-line apparel for better rad-resistance  :D

2 Sentrybots, created by Deltadog. The cables/hoses are by Zinge.
Everything is glued together eventhough the torso and arms could be magnetized.
They still need bases and a lick of paint ofcourse, but I just had to share these beauties.

Had to tinker a bit with photoshop because my photos never seem to capture the colours right (specially the metallic effects).  :?
It does give a cool effect on the heads in the last photo though  :D

The Gloweffect in the head is spot on now! The yellow rings around the rockets are very cool as well. I guess I´ve to inspire myself of this one a bit while painting my own^^

Well, photoshop makes it look that good. In reality it's a little less vibrant.
I painted the recesses vermillion red. Then I went over the center of the red lines with yellow followed up with fluo orange.
I thought about using the airbrush to spray a fine mist of red on the head and to get some sort of OSL, but was too afraid I'd ruin it.
