So here's the plan, a Deadside crematorium. Lost souls get herded in one end and wonderful heat and energy to power a Great Engine gets pumped out the other. Simples.

Details of the setting here:

have we started...I thought kick off was tomorrow ???
-
I haven't done anything. Just had a thought or two.
I'll remove the pics until later.
-
could not resist...hope all is well. About time we caught up soon?
-
Piccies please :D
cheers
James

I've put them back.
-
They look dead good :)
-
Being dead serious here, this looks very cool already at the sketch stage.

just finalising the details and measurements.
On the right wall looking from the front will be the input box box the pipeway so that the energy generated can be sent off to the Great Engine.
The left wall will have the blood draining pipes and the blood reservoir.
The rear wall will have the chimney and it's furnace box and the ash chute with the ash and bone pile beneath it.
The front will have the imposing tall door and something above the window, (haven't decided what yet).
The roof will lift off so the flickering tea lights can be placed inside to provide the hellish light from the furnace which will be visible through the rows of windows on each long wall.
If I can manage a speaker there might be screams too :)
I wouldn't usually show these rough working out sketches of course, but I believe it's warranted in this instance since we're all competing; full disclosure and transparency and all that :)

The weekend's here, time to build.
Here are the two sides. 4mm cork as always. I'm making changes to the plan as I go, normally I'd work everything out to the finest detail first but this is a quickie :)
I'm using some thin wooden grilling from Fenris Games for the window details. I used to use wire mesh and also tile spacers for windows but during the Shadow Man build this became my window of choice quite by chance and I'm keeping to it so everything looks like it belongs together on the table. Boo Hiss for using pre fabricated parts, I know, but what can you do? :)
Matchsticks for extra detailing.

The end walls are 100mm wide and 200mm to the apex.
The door's 80mm x 40mm. I've kept the idea for an interlocking metal sliding door that I originally intended bu I've changed to a vertical orientation so it's more like teeth. Door is card faced with coffee stirrers.

This is the housing for where the Pipeway will join the Crematorium.
Here's the Pipeway itself, not part of this build of course.
Time to stick the walls together.
I've added buttresses to this wall. They match the other side in size but not in placement but are enought o keep a unified design look. The blood resevoir will fit between these.
Here's the building in position on it's base (unglued as yet) with the chimney stood roughly in position. The base is 150mm x 220mm. The extra space at the back will accomodate the ash pile and the base of the chimney housing.
That's it, more to come.

Very nice build so far. Someone else with a NWS chopper! One of my absolute favorite time saving tools. I will have to look into the grilling from Fenris Games.
Snitchy sends.
-
Be careful, there's an awful lot of good stuff on the Fenris site :o
-
The return of King Cork ;)
A solid build already coming together.
-
Looking good. I like those windows.
-
Great looking build.
Tony
PS.
I also own a NWSL Chopper!
-
Be careful, there's an awful lot of good stuff on the Fenris site :o
Akula directed me there the other day and I had a peek at the one product that I was interested in. Now that I have perused the whole site I am fairly well impressed. Thanks to you both.
Snitchy sends.
-
That's looking awesome. :)
What's a nwsl chopper, and how does one use it?
-
It'll be a fine addition Paul :)
cheers
James

It's a cutter which lets you cut lots of things to a set length. Good for all those repeat items, means you only have to measure once, set the cutter and away you go.
-
Very cool, I like the connection to the Pipeline idea.
-
A bit of detailing.
First the hatch into the Pipeway workings.
Bit of cork, 25 x 50 pill base, bit of copper rod, press stud and a window made from Fenris grating.
Stick, stick, drill, stick, stick...
Ta-da! Hatchway.
Blood drain pipes from cash register roll centres cut to different size. I'm going to have to extend the base to accommodate the enlarged blood reservoir but, so what? You can never have too big a blood reservoir.
Games Workshop thingy to adorn the front.

Just caught on to this.
Great stuff as usual and will fit in really well with the rest of the glorious table.

The return of King Cork ;)
I was thinking more of Matt O'Keyshee, Master Builder, of Cork.
;)
-
Cool! Love the hatchway, so simple and effective!
-
Creative modelling as always!

More details.
First the Chimney housing.
The resin base is one from Fenris. They come with miniatures I buy and I never use them as bases but I keep them for occasions such as this where they are a painless way to add detail to a build. In this case a vent of some kind, nothing too specific but it looks like it does something.
Some blocks of foam (I never use foam normally) and some skeleton bits (bought from ebay) form the foundation of the ash pile. Once everything's dry I'll add fine grit to texture it.
The blood reservoir added to the side with a base extension.
and the ash vent with a repeated motif from the front wall.
Next up, adding blood to the pipes and reservoir, texturing the ash pile and doing the roofs.
-
Terrain making does look effortless for you, regardless of the reality. I like.

That base worked brilliantly. Very nice stuff 8) 8) 8)

Great looking build.

Time for the sticky stuff.
Watered down PVA and a sprinkling of fine sand for the ash pile.
A bamboo skewer.
some hot glue
(http://www.matakishi.com/Deadside%20Crematorium%20029.jpg)
and some more PVA fills the blood reservoir.
and now I have to wait for it all to dry before I can move on to the final stage, the roofs.
-
Looking very good, that blood reservoir thing gives me the creeps already :D
-
:o
-
Last bit then...
Two roof panels of sintra board (foamed pvc) with a masking tape hinge.
A cut out for the dowel chimney
(http://www.matakishi.com/Deadside%20Crematorium%20032.jpg)
Thin card detailing
(http://www.matakishi.com/Deadside%20Crematorium%20033.jpg)
and we're done.
paint and flickering tea lights will complete the picture but that will have to wait until the final reveal...
-
Very good Paul. The blood drain is a gruesome touch :o
Good luck!
-
Wonderful!
