New Table layout for my Lost City of Jaffa!

Terrain mostly a famous Biscuit or is it Cake box!
-
Very effective. And it is a cake.
-
That is a fantastic lost city! I love it! :-* You must have eaten a lot of Jaffas! :-*
Terrain mostly a famous Biscuit or is it Cake box!
Isn't it decided by whether it goes hard or soft when stale? Biscuits go soft and cake goes hard?
-
Very cool! :o
-
Thanks Guys :)
I think it's decided by the Taxman and many Lawyers.... lol
Too many Jaffas have made the sacrifice! YUM!
-
That is brilliant!
-
Jaffa is a biblical city, and part of present day Tel Aviv. So the name made me think of other things
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaffa
Way cool terrain :-*
-
Hold on, give me a second, I'm sure my jaw is around here somewhere, I've just got to pick it up.
-
Again thanks for the nice comments.
Sorry my photog skills aren't better, I'm still learning with this camera.
Here's a closer shot of one entrance. Bit out of focus.
The base of the layout is a simple wool cloth. Easy to transport and store, plus you get unlooked for dune effects if you don't flatten it out totally. :D
Pity most of my figures have green bases really. :(
-
Stunning more pics please and AARs
-
LOVE it! Great work! Thanks for sharing!
-
Wow! This is cool!
-
Woooooooooooooooooow, that oozes character. I love it and want to play games on it straight away 8)
-
I'll try to pose some more piccies in the next few days! Maybe even get some in game photos on Friday evening!
If myself and the guys can get through our combined lurgies!! :-X
Thanks again for the lovely comments. (Cakes of Jaffa I love 'em)
-
NICE! consider me jealous of all that great scenery. who makes those skull fountains in the last photo?
-
Ral Partha Europe was when I purchased them a while ago?
Fantasy Forge for some reason also springs to mind but I think the latest was Ral Partha Resins?
The Temple entrance is by the same manufacturer anyway. There's also a Ramskull Gate and Standing Column Sections which are very useful
but I'm not sure they are produced anymore?
Look out for them on Bring and Buys maybe?
A link I found Ram Skull but no sign of the others.

-
Great stuff! A neat way to make terrain, and a good excuse (if any were needed) to consume lots of Jaffa cakes! :)
-
:o
Wow, what an incredible ruined city!
I cant wait to see some AARs with it.
....The Temple entrance is by the same manufacturer anyway. There's also a Ramskull Gate and Standing Column Sections which are very useful

Their by Grendel and they show up fairly often on ebay.
Jaffa?
I'm not getting the reference?
Is that a cooking product you used to make this?

-
It's all getting very Cakey! lol
Here's another posed piccy. Mix of Copplestone, Artizan, Westwind and Poundland (Carnosaur type thing?)
Oh yes and cheapo plastic Iguanodon repaint.
-
That looks great!
-
Great looking table. Very modular too so it looks like the configuration possibilities are almost infinite!
-
Yeah. It is something I try to do a lot. I like to get value for build out of my tinkering and much of this stuff can be stacked on top of each other for extra height and visual panorama.
My Secret Base. In the Future Wars section is made on these principals so me and the lads can fight over many different landscapes.
I do like to use a lot of scrap!
-
Having seen the Skull Island thread start! It reminded me that I had this hidden in my spare room!
I wouldn't like to think what it would have come from in 28mm Scale though?

Actually a plastic T-rex skull from a "Build your own Dinosaur" Magazine.
One of those that the first issue is about £1.99.

Here we see the Cult of The Cake.
Plus A WIP on another addition to the Monuments of Jaffa!
Sorry lots of Pictures. 10 Cultists in no particular order.

The Column. Useful Cthulhu resin statue atop 2 small Jenga blocks wrapped in address labels. About to be painted.

Nice terrain.
I do love a modular system with these things.
So many options.

As for those Cultists: Should they not be in orange robes...?

As for those Cultists: Should they not be in orange robes...?
lol lol lol lol
I knew the Jaffa Cult existed somewhere..................
-
Ahh! But you see...These are the very evil "Strawberry Jaffa Cult" a Breakaway (TM) faction.
Anyway.. That Column I was going to paint. Turned into 4!!
Front of one
(http://i910.photobucket.com/albums/ac304/malclbs/CTHULHU1_zpsrilwdib8.jpg)
Side of the Same

Four of them
(http://i910.photobucket.com/albums/ac304/malclbs/CTHULHU3_zpsdnens1y1.jpg)
Incredibly easy to do. That's why I did four. :D
-
Nice! Those Cthulhu statues are so useful. ;)
-
These are the very evil "Strawberry Jaffa Cult" a Breakaway (TM) faction.
"Splitters! This is indeed heresy!"
BTW, very nice work on the columns. :-*
-
"Splitters! This is indeed heresy!"
Yes! Their evil knows no bounds!
Tee hee! I may have to do some of the "Mint Cult"
Anyway more stuff in closer detail and new stuff being bashed!
This stepped modular bit can be pushed on to the side of nearly any of my Temples.
They are made from Jenga Blocks and necklace beads superglued together.
This series of pictures for a smaller version of the above! Made from smaller Jenga Blocks I purchased several packs of from my local Poundland. (48 blocks in every pack and it takes 6 to do one set of steps) Paint them metallic and instant Techno-step set!
Again just add necklace beads for colour on your archaic steps.
The base of the figure is a 25mm square. But I'm not that bothered about the over-hang as the steps are really only a marker for access and set dressing when finished.
Thanks by the way for the encouragement :)
-
looks great...thinking how I might use those blocks
-
Good idea about the Jenga blocks. I must go into Poundland next time I venture near the big city!
-
Nice columns.
I am particularly impressed with the texture created by the tape.
Clever, simple, but VERY effective.

Here are the Small Jenga Steps in stages of paint and undergrowth added!
Stage 2 Really! This is after the blocks have been undercoated and given a coat of testor pot Java Bean. Then drybrushed roughly in a suitable lighter brown.
Stage 3! Drybrushed with another Testor Pot Sand. Very subtle aging I quite like.
Stage 4! Scatter material PVA'd in clumps.
The last stage can make figures quite unstable standing on such narrow steps, but as I said before they are really just markers for egress up and down.
Thanks for the comments.
-
I missed this thread. Lovely work :D
-
Here are some of the otherworldly or just strange village buildings I slapped together!
I have quite a few of these smaller ones.
Not so many of the Medium and Big 5 Dome ones!
Again they have been sitting in a box for a while and the bases have warped a bit. But I'm bending them back and working on those hard edges.
The doorways are a bit small for a 28mm figure unless they crawl through them!
Made out of Dragon/Dinosaur egg packaging hard plastic and see through I found cheap in Works Publishing.
-
Nice work! :-* Those structures have all kinds of possibilities.
-
Nice work! Love Those structures have all kinds of possibilities.
Thanks! I like them myself and they have multiple uses. Lost Empire, Lost village sort of things!
I use them for my Animal men and lost tribe dwellings.
As always I feel more work is needed on them.
-
Here's some quite bad photos of the Massive Temple I can make out of some of my Jaffa Bits! o_o
Sorry the piccies are a bit out of focus and distant. :?

I could play with the layouts and add and subtract bits for hours!
Hope you get some ideas from it.
-
That's marvellous! :-*
-
That looks awesome. I imagine that terrain would make for some fantastic games.
-
Very grand and atmospheric.

That looks awesome. I imagine that terrain would make for some fantastic games.
I'm hoping that on Friday the guys will think so also.
I may add a bit here and there as I have made some more small Jenga steps in this theme.
Not really a Pulp game planned this time around but maybe next week? (VSFish theme this week)
But that's the beauty of these bits! Anytime, anyplace, anywhere?
:D
-
Love it!
:-*
Plenty of great opportunities for gaming shenanigans on all those levels.

That really looks great! Wonderful feel to it.
-
Blimey, that's a lot of scenery for almost nothing! :o
Inspirational stuff! :)
-
Thanks a lot! There's definitely a lot of scope for shenanigans!
Here are some more bits I'm in the process of adding.
The Resin Maw gateway from that well known company I've used bits from before? (But forgot their name again o_o)
Again the main block is a certain proprietary cake box with added adhesive address labels and wooden puzzle bits.
I have yet to PVA scatter to the projects! There are 2 virtually identical pieces! I had 2 of the Resin bits :D
(http://i910.photobucket.com/albums/ac304/malclbs/Wallgate4_zps0j2lrf19.jpg)

Hope you like the current state of them. I find the label effect quite an effective way of giving relief to objects and the scatter will be tactically applied to cover any gaps!
-
Here are the PVA and scatter added Maw Gates and some more connecting flatter bits I've added!

Most of the bits do push together, but there is some minor warping and you have to place strategic extra bits to plug gaps!
Overall though I'm happy with the flexibility it offers. I'll live with the downside of warping boxes! :D
-
that looks really great. sorry if it was asked already - what do you use for the scatter?
-
that looks really great. sorry if it was asked already - what do you use for the scatter?
It's normal railway scatter! Just so many different bags of the stuff, that I had left over from other things! All mixed together in a big plastic tub! :)
Don't ask me which brand or grades were used I just threw them all in and clipped the top on! Then gave it a shake.
And I've just noticed in one of the piccies that there's some PVA that didn't get any scatter in the Mouth of the Maw!
Chaos is my name! lol
-
A different layout sorry but only one piccy! I'm still playing with bits at the moment.
New bits added are courtyard tiles, made out of the hardcard canvas covered boards you can buy from in the UK Poundland or The Works publishers. Again covered in address adhesive labels and painted suitably.
Can't really see them well here though they are the lower middle bits of the complex!

This is fabulous! Love your Blackhawks!

Yeah same Statue set! But B&M ("Bargains & More" I believe?) From my local store near Birmingham. UK.
Only £2.99.
At one point they had a Buddha's head bust at about 1/3rd scale for £1.99 in Ceramic. (I didn't at the time! Could kick myself now!)
The Blackhawks are Heroclix and all I did was re-base really and dry-brush the uniforms a tad! (Miniscule actually as the paintjob on the ones I got was very good to start with) So I can't really take the credit for those.
Thanks for all the comments. More when the lighting improves in my wargame room!
-
Here are some of the expansion module terrain pieces in various states of distress!
Plus another little shot of the layout with a wooden puzzle pyramid I'm going to paint!
Two smaller platform type pieces before painting. Labels over small card boxes.
Larger triple cake box platform.
Medium platform painted but not scattered yet.
Small Platform painted but not scattered.
The Wooden Puzzle on top of a Medium platform and you can see the Small platform under the steps.
The glossy address labels do hamper painting slightly but a light watery base coat. (Left to dry.) Then normal painting can commence.
Even more scope for temple madness!! :D
-
More great stuff! :-*
-
That is Brilliant!
-
Excellent work. I specially love the stairs.
-
Thanks guys!
Hope you're all digging through the potential rubbish for bits! ;)
My Jenga stairs and steps seem very popular! You can also use the blocks for walling and ruins. But I think you may have noticed that already!? lol
I've already painted all those bits in the previous photos as they take no time really.
Just gotta PVA and scatter the modules. Then another piccy session! Soon be able to cover the table.
Thanks again. :)
-
Here's something I started today.
Battleships trays from a cheap version of the game. I've had these hanging around for a while and thought they'd make a good base for a building or ruin as it turns out!
So far I've used 3 different sizes of jenga block, wooden puzzle pieces, double sided sticky bits and some sliced up address labels to build these with.
Thought I'd let you have a look at the mess I've made so far!
I will be adding smaller bits later and rubble as the mood takes me. Either before painting or after as is appropriate to the rubble!
I've still got to see what bits in my spares boxes will be good for this build? But I'll post as I get inspiration or just plain finish it! ;)
-
Kudos to you for using such relatively simple materials, and turning them into such excellent-looking terrain pieces! Well done! I look forward to more updates!
-
It's just struck me! :D
Share your own ideas here! Please! Please! Please!
A bit of show and tell to inspire me would be great guys. I'd really appreciate it! :)
-
:-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
Very impressive. Some great mini tutorials along the way as well. That is a table I would be honoured to play games on. Thanks for sharing!!

malcy - don't ever be "finished" - it's really great to look at so please keep up the work. i do have a process question - do you start with the box and then make stairs or vice versa or it doesn't matter? i don't have jenga blocks but will look for some the next trip to the dollar store; however i do have some foamish type craft blocks that i have started to stack up because of your inspiration.

Pistolpete.
Don't worry! I'll always have something on the go! (Depends on what I find cheap and what strikes me as useful for building) lol
"It doesn't matter!" You hit it on the head with that statement. The jenga blocks, (now four different sizes) were a complete, "I wonder?" Moment. Started it in my "My Secret Base" Future wars section. It just sort of made sense to do it for this project too!
As for the boxes of various comestibles? It's more difficult to get boxes that once opened, "even carefully!" Will then go back together with tape to be strong enough to use. I tend to reinforce with Gaffa/Elephant/Duct-tape. Before covering with the sticky labels and painting. Trial and error is the way! (Be prepared for lots of error! :D)
My advice is keep an open mind!
Examine every piece of packaging for strength and useful shapes!
Buy cheap!
Do dry run builds first and try to plan the best use of your bits.
Then go for it!
:D
-
Here's how far I've got with that box ruin. :?
Still thinking and weathering and by nowhere near finished! o_o
(http://i910.photobucket.com/albums/ac304/malclbs/templestage2_zpsbjyzfaao.jpg)
Still have another tray this size and the main box itself to think about?
-
I haven't even finished the other one yet? :?
And here's the next one on the list! o_o
Obviously gotta paint and weather and possibly add even more detritus to it?
I don't know? As the mood takes me.
Where will I put it all? ;D
One view.

Another.

Added component plastic stacker blocks! The bright yellow and red bits. Make ideal raised planting areas for 28mm budding gardeners!

Inspiring work! :-* :-* :-*
Thank you! :D
I am still hoping to get to roll up and create my League of the "Lucky 13!"
Then we will be using this terrain to play Pulp Alley!
Still working on these bits and unfortunately got distracted by a load of friend giving me a completely different game!
Nothing to do with Pulp! SO I won't post it here!
More to come on Jaffa later! ;)
-

More to come on Jaffa later!
Looking forward to seeing all this!
-
Thank you. Your Lordship! :)
Here's a bit of an update on those other two ruins made out of Battleship box lids and Wooden puzzle parts!
The Bigger of the two with a Perry Mins figure for scale! (Still working on both of these btw)
One of the two smaller ruins about half the size of the above!
More pva and scatter then more paint? Then possibly more bits? The more pva and scatter! o_o
-
Sorry about the piccies! But I found this train set and thought the engine and tender looked about right!
It's a Rail Kings set made in China. The scale is stated at 1:87. But I think that is quite a loose measurement? As you can see by the Artizan minis next to it. It's the look of the thing though and at only £5.99 for the set my only complaint is no straight track bits!
The Engine and a bit of the tender!
The Whole Train. Would have liked passenger cars really but the truck is alright!
The couplings are rather crude two hooks on a bar so I used some old Hornby couplings but it isn't going to be travelling far so what the hey? I've also given it a quick paint which will turn into a more in depth paint when I can be bothered!
-
That looks ideal. Tried looking on Fleabay. There's a few different sets, do you know if they're all the same scale?
-
Best thing I can say is have a search on youtube!
I did the same thing and some of the sets look smaller scale? It seems the more you get in the set the smaller they are?
But I cannot honestly say...I would love to see them in the flesh.
The shop I got this from had another smaller scale set in, with passenger cars x2. But the engine was a diesel and was obviously a smaller scale than this one!
Judging by the guys' hands in the youtube vids I've seen most of the other sets are smaller scales.
Oh yeah! They go "Chuff" if you put batteries in them apparently! I haven't tried it!
This sets truck came with 5 massive Barrels linked together and pegged into the truck. I removed them and cut them apart!
You never know they may come in handy?
-
no straight track bits!
i suppose that means those sections got damaged/blown apart/overgrown; i mean this is a "lost city". but it could also be extreme perilous as either a rider/driver (massive effort/luck to 'jump' to the next section ala "speed") or as a plot situation (get off the train before it crashes).
maybe take some small wood sections and router out a couple of straight paths that could be used as a road crossing or a station stop.
-
The train is a great addition to the Lost City.
-
That looks ideal. Tried looking on Fleabay. There's a few different sets, do you know if they're all the same scale?
I had another look in the shop I got this one from in Birmingham UK as I was passing this morning.
The shop is quite a loosely laid out one so I thought maybe they have others apart from the two sets I've seen?
(These were several aisles apart) I found more of the "Rail Kings" sets sure enough! Nowhere near the one I purchased!
Yes the Scales vary wildly anywhere between, (I Think?) HO-OO about 20mm in old hornby to the one I got!
With no scale indication on any of the other boxes I saw? In fact mine seems to be the only one that had 1:87 on it! (It doesn't look that small a scale to me? But I'm no expert on Trains!)
Two of the sets had my engine in them at two slightly smaller scales and different rolling stock in both cases.
Another had a Diesel engine pulling three passenger cars in the smallest scale which I think is near HO-OO?
Again I am no expert! If you spot them use your scaling eyes!! lol

This is a Micro-light style plane I modified from the Disney Atlantis Toys!
Chinese Warlord service my own contingent so not historical in any way!!! lol
In the close up you can see the pilot is a bit lost?

I hope the yoke is steady?

That's a great looking plane!

lol lol lol

Here's the rest of the Flight. Another Disney Atlantis toy. Different type of Microlight. (2types to my knowledge)
Plus a converted GW Elf glider I think? I have had this for some time and converted it a while ago. I got it second hand from a show for about 50p. (So I'm not sure it is GW?) Makes a nice smaller micro though!

I'll try to take some closer individual shots.

Brilliant, awesome, massively inspiring thred - thanks for sharing your work!

A really nice squadron.

Love your stuff and thanks for the info about the Train. Now even more confused. ;)

Yeah. Sorry I couldn't be clearer. I think it's a case of they have a box size for a product and then fit the product to the box.
(Forget consistent scale!) They are toys though!
I know it happens with model kit companies like Heller and in the old days Revell/Monogram.
You'll just really have to keep your eyes peeled.

More of my Train with tonights table layout! :D
I've just thrown on some figures for scale.

I'm still tickled by the fact of the lost city having a rail line running to it. lol

Thanks! It's still not everything though. I get complaints about overcrowding the table. :?

OK! Who gave it away? lol

Thanks guys.

That looks amazing! That would be a heap of fun to play on.

That looks amazing! That would be a heap of fun to play on.
Yeah! Friday was a nice stupid game with the gates randomly changing transport locations between them.
I had some plastic counters with a Star on one face and Blank on the reverse! Every two turns we'd flip the counters like coins and see which of the gates were connected to each other.
You could only Transit between a linked Green to Orange gate. (Both gates showing the same face of the counter!) Or Orange to Green in reverse. If multiple gates had the same face on the counter you could choose which Gate to exit from! But again only from one colour to another! (Hope that makes sense! o_o)
Led to some quite interesting conundrums. I made the gates difficult terrain to fire through but stopped short of firing through one to exit another! (That would be Silly!) lol
We didn't finish the game but it was deemed very funny!
Thanks to everyone for the nice comments. I'll try to get more stuff up soon. :D

Its a regiment of renown birdmen of catrazza flier. Nice davinci inspired miniatures. I have a set half painted somewhere.
I love what your doing on this topic, you apear to be hitting all the pulp check boxes! Trains, aircraft and all in a lost city!

SO here's some of my Dinosaurs moving through the outskirts of Jaffa!
Welcome to "Jurassic Malc!"
I do love my Dinos. Some of these are for repainting when I get around to it. (More diversity)
-
nice dino herd. wait a minute - what are they running from? i gotta bad feeling about this.
-
Practical and fun. Good on ya!
-
That's quite a herd!
-
What a load of... dinos :o
-
I do own a lot of Metal and Plastic Dinos!
Some start out in Neon and Day Glow colours! But I try to look at the detail on the models and think how a bit of paint would look on them?
A medium sized Carnosaur or small T-rex type.
A slightly larger of the above!
Now both of these were found in poly bags of toy dinosaurs. The top one being a very lurid yellow and green rubbery plastic, before I painted it. The bags varied in content, the top pictured dino came in a pack of 5 for £1. The bottom 3 Dinos for £2.50 but they were larger and more useful content. (Included one of my many Ceratops as well as a very nice Iguanodont type)
Basically you know what to do. Examine these toys closely. You may be surprised at the detail.
-
Great!
-
I've just started putting together the bits! "Again!"
I have so much fun just messing about with all the terrain and temples! I thought I'd include some pictures of components as well!
The Sun came out just as I took this!!
The Sun went back in!
Hopefully the main point of contention! Archaeological Camp!
And now the components some to be added but not all of them! (And by no means everything I've got!)
Some of my Smaller Palm tree clumps, Boulders and bushes.
An extra box of Larger Palm trees and bushes.
Like I said work in progress and I'm trying not to make it too crowded! More stuff under the table, on the shelves and up the stairs!
Hope it gives you more inspiration!
-
Just brilliant! :-* :-*
-
Cool! Obviously a lot of dedication went into this. I'm envious :-*
-
In Lieu of actually playing a game last Friday. Myself and the Guys had a massive chat over the terrain.
One of my friends gave me the money to go back into Birmingham and revisit the shop to get more train sets, so we could modify them for even more adventure!
I thought I'd upload the piccies of the front of the train set box as previously piccied here so you could see what to look for?
Sorry it's a bit dark! Plus the pre-modified and painted cargo truck stock with it's truly massive barrel cargo!
I have had some ideas regarding the coal tender, but want to talk it over with the guys in person this Friday before doing more!
The bits do come apart comparatively easily so modifying the rolling stock does seem to be a breeze!
I ended up getting 2 of the same set as the very nice shop owner said I could have both for £10. I didn't even have to ask for a discount!!
Anyway here are the pics!
Overall.
Closer look.

Here's some more stuff I made and found in Tat shops!!
There's 2 of the Bigger slightly raised bases for the City Temples of Jaffa! Used as either raised courtyards or foundation plinths for the bigger temples. (Artists canvas given the label treatment! Don't know whether to give them scatter yet?)
The labels do strengthen the canvas (£1 each by the way!) but I wouldn't put anything to heavy on it!
Wide Plinth
(http://i910.photobucket.com/albums/ac304/malclbs/NewBase1_zps9iqyai2u.jpg)
Watch Tower
(http://i910.photobucket.com/albums/ac304/malclbs/NewbaseWatch2_zpsveld0vto.jpg)
Same again out of focus but the figure gives some idea of scale.
Statue head found for 99p in 99p shop? Strange enough?
The watchtower is one of three I picked up with some really awful plastic WW2 troopers. But for £1 a pack I thought, what the heck?
There were also some useful looking signs in the same pack which will be added to various scenarios. Plus some more palm trees which you can never have to many of!
-
More great finds!
-
which shop did you pick the watchtowers up in please ;)
-
which shop did you pick the watchtowers up in please ;)
www.theoriginalfactoryshop.co.uk/
But you won't see the packs on their website. At least I didn't. See if there is one near you using their store finder.
But it will probably be potluck if they have bags of these armymen type tat in stock!
I only saw them by accident! I think they are called "Warfare"
Good luck! :D
-
Thank you
-
Beautiful terrain. :-*
-
Searching for that train on ebay actually shows up some reasonable prices, also some different models which might or might not fit the same scale. Tempting, very tempting.
-
As I said earlier in this thread. Search youtube for "Railking" and you'll see some reviews and may get an idea of the scaling.
I think most of the other sets are smaller in gradual scales the bigger the sets get? (Not 100% though!)
-
I've included these here. Mainy because they can be used in a Pulp setting!
Especially to remove Artifacts from Jaffa!
Now these are Soft Plastic "Army Men" Lorries/Trucks, that I've added diecast wheels to in place of the horrible plastic tiny ones they came with! Plus I plastic carded the cab windows. (The Cabs were hollow in Army men style!)
They look the right scale for 28mm as a 2 1/2 ton to maybe 3 1/2ton truck. I still have to weather and detail paint some bits. But I like the look of them! :D (Even if some of the detail is a bit soft)
I have 4 of them. Don't ask me where I got them! o_o I really can't remember ;D
(http://i910.photobucket.com/albums/ac304/malclbs/LorryPulp1_zpsnogzt2pv.jpg)

I do know they were dirt cheap and came 2 to a pack of soldiers with 2 jeeps of about 28mm scale as well.
The Jeeps I'm still looking for suitable wheels for as they had the same awful plastic wheel and axle bits as the lorries.
Examine those cheapo armymen bags guys!
-
Here are some of the Plot Point Markers, I've been trying to work on over the last few months! (It's taken me this long to find suitable containers for the Gems!)
The Figure is going to be my "League Leader" Alexander Stone.
Still working out the best stats for him.
The Gems and containers were made by buying a cheap calculator from Poundland. Taking it apart and using the buttons as treasure containers. The treasure is some fine Acrylic beads in various shiny colours I found in a Haberdashery shop. They were £1 a pack in a sale.
I painted the buttons and PVA'd the beads into the containers after mixing them up a bit.
Just Alexander and his loot.
In his Camp. With some other Necklace bead Urns and Pots.
Hope you like them.

Those are just great. Honestly, your whole set-up looks incredible--I've always wanted to either run or play a game that featured a cityscape (say, Peking 1900) or vast ruins to explore and generally get in trouble in. You've certainly got the latter. Any chance of some pics of your games? (I haven't read this entire thread. If there are lots in earlier pages, let me know and I'll start looking. ;))
Of your latest pieces, I especially like the vases (made of beads, right?) and the chests with jewels, which look suitably dazzling. Marvelous stuff!

Yeah?? I keep meaning to try and take piccies of the games we do play on the table...but by the time the guys get to my house and the lighting has faded....then we get too involved in playing!! I've forgot! :D o_o
I start a new job this Monday, so my posts are going to slow a bit as well. But I am trying to plan a "Big-Gaming Day!" Possibly a weekend or Bank Holiday weekend bash. Then I'll definetly make the effort. :)
The Necklace Bead Vases are exactly that. I was just incredibly lucky that someone in one of the Hobby/Craft shops that I happened to walk into, had bagged most of these in a giant-sized ziplock bag at a bargain price!! :o
I thought, "They're for me!" Got a very strange look, from the old lady who runs the shop! ;) Explained that I was going to make wargame scenery out of them. Which She accepted very well I thought! Made my excuses and left. ;D
I promise I'll try to get in game piccies up. Especially as the other guys I game with are much better figure painters than I am.
Might even get them to take piccies themselves as they want to post their own stuff as well.

Hi Again
Another WIP for the "Last Train to Jaffa!"
I took one of the Coal Tenders from the extra train sets and set about it with plastic card and superglue!
This is as far as I've got so far!
The Coal Tender from my Original Set!
Various shots with the main box of the Tender inverted on the bogey.
This is nowhere near finished! As I am taking it rather slowly as I've never done this kind of build before. :? :o o_o
(http://i910.photobucket.com/albums/ac304/malclbs/Traintender1_zpslmezavxd.jpg)
Sorry I forgot to put in a figure for size comparison. But if you look back in the thread you can see the whole train next to some figs!
Now pondering what to do to it next? (Apart from filling those gaps and painting!)
-
Here are the Lord and Lady of the Jaffa!
He was raised by "Smashing Orangey bits in the middle!"
Both old Foundry models I've had and painted a good 20 years ago I think?
Plus some scenic, "Seasoning!"
The Lord.

The Lady. (Not as focused)

The Seaoning!
Salt and Pepper pots purchased from a Poundland shop. I wanted the more classic shaker shapes as they would look more architecturally Jaffa! But couldn't find any yet! :'(
Maybe later? lol
-
Awesome! :-* :-*
-
Great stuff! Keep it coming!
-
Here are some more piccies!
Yes I know I keep promising Stats and AAR!
Eventually I promise ??? ;)
Anyway! Here are some Heroclix conversions for my Chinese Warlord. "The Emperor!"
On Horseback 1.
On Horseback other side.
Horseless. But there's something not quite right?
He's a 'Bot!
This is a very useful mechanic and a use for an over abundance of "The Mandarin" Heroclix figures I had!
Means I can re-use my main villain! :D (Who said cheat!!)
-
Great stuff! :-* You have some definite hints and tips for the gamer on a budget.
-
Excellent! :-*
-
Really like your use of beads. I used the same or very similar beads when I did my Darkest Africa collection. Great job on this. Richard

And again! :)
Great stuff! :-* You have some definite hints and tips for the gamer on a budget.
The whole point! ;)
Thanks guys. It means a lot to me!
Here are some real budget items and photog skills! (As in Terrible focus!) o_o
Palm trees and rocks for the budget gamer. 99p shop army men palms, that came with some of the other bits you will be spotting later!
For now though?
An attempted wide shot of 5 in progress! Plus Babydoll for scale!
Closer for the look of it!
Higher and nearly missed shot!
The rocks are stones grabbed from the back garden and whacked with a hammer! (Wear goggles and shin pads and gloves and get behind something and probably get someone else to do it to be safe!) >:D It is dangerous don't mess about!
Superglue to a suitable base the sharp shards of pebble! Milliput them as well as the trees! I have yet to paint these bases and darken the tree trunks/palm trunks. Smoke by Valllejo 70939 Model Colo(u)r.
More trees that you can never have enough off!
-
Sorry a bit dark! :?
Salt and Pepper Anyone?
Cost me £1 for both then gave them the Jaffa treatment.
Sorry.
-
In Lieu of playing any games yet again??
Some Piccies!!
Artist Canvas bases. Diecast 1/50th scale vehicles and Artizan and Westwind minis!

Army men barbed wire and guard towers again always useful as props!
-
More inspiration hit me the other day! :D
I had an absolute load of Domino Pieces left over from using the boxes for Containers in my other projects.
Rather than waste them or make more steps out of them I decided to do this for Jaffa.
The blocks can be added under and next to the other modular bits of Jaffa as extended steps and platforms.
The 2 Bridge sections as you can see here add a little bit of extra umph!
Making a low bridge on their own!
And again.
Or connecting high rise sections.
Spacers
(http://i910.photobucket.com/albums/ac304/malclbs/DominoSpacers1_zpsjzi7l9fj.jpg)
Spacers place together.
I do have a lot of these bits, so covering gaps and giving more egress points to raised bits of Jaffa are now solved!
-
Very cool! What a great idea. ;)
-
I think He may count as an "Extreme Peril!"
The Mighty Bong! Guarding his Treasure.
Crashin through an old wreck!

This Plane has seen better days!
We have used the plane wreckage as plot points. (No I didn't wreck a model on purpose!)
It was an accident that I couldn't fix. So I put the much mangled bits to another purpose. The Weathering is a form of dust from my spare room! lol
Giant ape by Reaper. (I know he's the wrong colour ;D)
-
Nice ape. Did he bring down the plane? I really love the use of household objects as terrain pieces. I didn't even recognise some of them until I read the comments.
-
This is a fantastic thread - so many great ideas! The domino bridge is especially superb.
Thanks so much for posting.
As an aside, I am delighted to see that "Sports Nutritionists" endorse Jaffa Cakes. One may speculate that this fine product assists competitive darts players achieve the physiques for which they are justly renown.
-

That's funny! lol I was going to say, "Bong wasn't a very good pilot!" In my initial comments but left it out in the end. But having him stand on the higher temples of Jaffa fighting Bi-planes is an idea.... :D

Hey I play Darts! (Now and again when I'm not wheezing!) Yes! Jaffa cakes are a fantastic source of the vitamin, "Smashing Orangey-bit in the middle!" Well known for aiding "Wheezing" on an Olympic level! :) lol
Thanks for the comments both. More stuff as and when I can.
Currently working on some "Souffle" ramekin bits I found cheap. Don't really know what to do with them other than more plinths or raised bases. But when I've done something more productive with them. I'll post!
-
Great stuff throughout, but the use of dominos for the bridges is particularly inspired!
-
Amazing stuff! And the use of dominoes for walkways gives me a new idea for my own project. Thank you for sharing!
-
As I said before. Got these Ramekins 3 for £1 from Poundland!!
Gave them a paint and made bridge pillars out of them. (Or anything else that needs a quite large column base to it?)
A truly mighty long thin bridge!
As above.

I have another 3 Ramekins to do and at the moment one more piece of Domino bridge to paint.
I feel like a kid playing with building blocks again. lol :D
-
Excellent ideas! :-*
-
Here's some bits I thought of to add twists and turns to my bridging!
Made from the left over dominos? (How is that spelled?)
Basically, cut a piece of cardboard just a bit bigger than the two flat dominos? Then superglue them in place and add two more standing on edge. I added a necklace bead in the corner and an off-cut piece of aquarium plant for a bit of colour.
Hey presto! Turny corner bits! :D
-
Fab.
-
Been a while and I have been working on stuff!
Unfortunately bad lighting due to my backroom and the time of year has curtailed piccies as of yet!
But....I've been working on Jenga block walls, more palm tree bases and aquarium plant bases.
I'll post when I have decent lighting and have got some in their various stages. (The Walls that is! I've done the foliage)
I'll be attending the Birmingham Toy Soldier show in Edgbaston Cricket ground this SUnday. Too see if there is anything that may be turned to my advantage from the piles of Plastic there!
All this will eventually make an appearance.
Have Pulpy fun! :D
-
A couple of Pics of the WIP of modular Jenga Walls I'm going to try out.
Not to sure of the stability aspects but another idea for filling in and adding onto the structures of Jaffa.
I have yet to paint these bits obviously.
Wall section approx 1.5" high and 2" long/width.
Going to be an entryway or portal. 2.25" high and 2" long/width.
Shrubery! Made out of Aquarium plants, Small toy Palm Trees, Beads and any stands or thick card lying about!
Base is then covered in multi-purpose filler and painted. (Possibly will scatter them later)
The Beads in their jars. Got these from "The Works Publishers Shop" £1 a jar mixed contents. I have seperated them as much as possible between the 2 jars by type!
Components Aquarium Plants (No Palms as I'd already used them all!) Plus the different bead types. (Patterned ones I tend to use as decoration rather than basing components)
After being superglued to the base the beads then take the plant stem and you can cover the bead and the base in filler. Then paint.
Both together
(http://i910.photobucket.com/albums/ac304/malclbs/Newbush7_zpsfnrcyt0r.jpg)
I find the beads make the cut down trees and plants easier to stick to the bases and you can stuff other fronds of foliage into the bead holes! :o
I will use PVA and my scatter material on all of these plus probably darken the tree trunks as they are a bit garish!
-
Well at least I got one side of my Jenga walls finished! o_o
Now I've got to do the reverse of all these! Maybe not the doorways? As I may stick these to other structures! :D
A doorway/portal.
The Walls.
Kinda set up? But I'm going to intermingle them with the rest of Jaffa's Temples!
Reaper Mini for Scale.
Got about 15 and can make more with the left-overs. Working on corner pieces which will be 2 blocks on end if needed.
-
Excellent work! It is great seeing your project grow. :D

Hello,
This is the first time I write on this forum, I find great work, it gives me ideas.

Thank you.
khailvahan. All these guys are great and a massive resource! Keep searching the LAF Forum! It's great! :)

Here we see my left-over Domino collection being made into T junctions for my bridges!
Just leave a Domino gap in the middle of one or both walls.
Fill in the floor gap that is left with your preferred filler! Milliput here and a bit rough.
I haven't decided yet whether I want cross-road bridge sections? As I don't really think I'll need them. ???
Mainly because the table would get a bit to complicated with all the bridges! o_o
I only have 2 of these.
-
Clever! Love seeing all the cool material you use. :D
-
Nice work with those bridge sections! I can see them having all kinds of gaming uses. :)

Nice work with those bridge sections! I can see them having all kinds of gaming uses. :)
I hope so and with the way I'm adding on to them I need more supports!
Here are the Cross Junctions I'm building at the mo!

I had to put the end dominos upright? (If that's the right term for standing them on end?) To make the walls complete. But I think it will add to the architecture a bit anyway! o_o
-
Well here's my new build of another section of Jaffa! This time a "Lake Jaffa Frontage"
It's a kinda WIP! As I have yet to decide what else to add! o_o
But bad photos not holding me back from trying out my Domino Bridge Sections.
Sorry about the photos but I do have trouble seeing if they are in focus till I download them.

WOW! ... WOW! ...and WOW! :o :-* :o :-*

Good Heavens! :o What a layout! :-* I envy your gamers, playing over that!

That looks so amazing and really inspiring. I'm going to hit the local poundshop for dominoes the next time I'm in town.

That's great! ;) But if you have a local "Works Publishers Shop" you can get 2 boxes of Dominos for £1 and they are the same size as Poundlands. Poundlands single box does come with 5 D6 in white though? But they are basically the same domino type!
Have fun! Just remember I used a card or wooden base plate under my bridges to give them more strength and be less fiddly to stick together.
:D
-
that looks fantastic - consider me jealous.

I've seen what you've done and consider me as an equal in the jealous dept! :)

Oh my! That lake table looks superb! Really eye-catching, and I'm sure you'd get some great games on it. Your ability to turn the most mundane materials into this kind of terrain is something else!

Your players are really lucky to have a table like that to play on. Simply amazing!

Thanks and here is some more I hope will inspire?
This is another I wonder? I want to see if this will turn out OK? Cheapo Chess set purchased from Poundland. Gonna try to use them as statues around Jaffa! Yet to be painted. o_o

Here a posher version of my Domino Steps. It has edges that my other bits didn't! More Dominos obviously glued edge on.

Here is walling I made out of some of the left over Dominos and Jenga blocks. They again are modular 3 jenga blocks and a domino for relief. Offset slightly so they link together!

A close up of one of the newer Domino Bridge Sections. In bottom right the above wall sections back.

Just trying to use everything here. May have to buy some more though just to fill my madness of having enough bits for any possible config! :o :D

Thanks Milord. :D
We are having a Pulp Alley! soon? With one of our younger semi-attendees! If the Wife lets him that is? lol
Hopefully we will agree a plot point!?!?!? ???

That's rather special. Great idea to use dominos, an idea to be stolen by many I think. 8)

Steal Away! It's why I post ;)
Not all my ideas work but any you find useful I am more than willing to share! :)
Just wish I had shares in Poundland or The Works! lol
-
It has been a while. But here are some sundry parts I have made from more Dominoes!
And sides and tops and bottoms of the boxes they came in! :D
I didn't want to waste the wooden boxes. And if you look at "My Secret Base!" In the Future Wars section..you'll see I have used the boxes before intact!
But If you part the sections carefully?!! o_o Hard to do without splitting the wood! I admit! ;)
You can make planks, bridges and sandstone jetties!
Sorry the piccy is a bit unfocused..but the paint job and the amount I tried to get in didn't help!
Some sections were given the sticky label treatment before painting. The flat domino sections have a domino box lid spine underneath for gluing to and strength!
-
Inspired by your fantastic ideas, I have started working on some domino terrain of my own. I hope you do not mind me posting my first wip efforts here.

Not at all! Post away :D!
Have you used the actual boxes for your bigger platforms? They look great. Nice piece of architecture.
;)
-
The 2 story platforms are made from some high density foam I'd been keeping for a while "just in case it comes in handy". It turned out to fit a 4-high domino stair almost perfectly! I need to get some pillars and other odds and ends to put on top of the platforms.
I've gone for the grey stone look because I already have a ton of ruins and similar, all in shades of grey.
-
For your pillars...? Have you considered Jenga blocks stuck together? Then the tape or sticky labels wrapped around to give the look of relief/stonework.
I have done it earlier in this thread!
Pages 2 and 3 have Pillars with Cthulhu Statues on them. But you could use the same principal depending on the size of the Jenga blocks you can grab! :)
But if you have another idea...Please share!! :D
-
Can you elaborate on how you made the stockade fencing? I've followed your thread quite closely but don't recall seeing it.
-

Whoops! Sorry! I purchased the Zvedza Ancient Roman Fort and various add ons from a friends model shop! Years ago!
Just gave them a hard card base with tacks pushed through up inyo the base of the wood/plastic logs. So I really didn't build those.
Not much to elaborate on...Sorry!
-
Here are my Skeletons I purchased really cheaply £1 for a bag of semi destroyed bits and bobs.
Gravestones, Full and partial Skeletons and I still have some bits leftover! Bargain!
The Gravestones I glued to dominoes and I like the plot point style they give!
10 Skeletons rising from the grave!
A bit closer and unfocused! o_o
(http://i910.photobucket.com/albums/ac304/malclbs/Skelebob2_zpsoye7iiyk.jpg)
The Domino Graves! (I wanted to use up some of the extra skulls and shields on the one!
They will make suitable Jaffa Tomguards to be summoned by some dark ritual!
Now I wanna make more! But GW plastic skeletons are so expensive! May have to go for Mantic!
But their Skeles tend to be quite the clothes wearers! ;)
:D
-
Love your domino graves - very effective. Skellies look good too.

Ta Milord! I am working on even more graves. With added backgammon playing piece head stones. I'll post them when I can.
:D

Here are some Archway/Bridge Sections I am working on. They are made from bits my Dr friend gave me and dominoes and Jenga blocks again!!! lol (With some address labels slapped over the top to give relief.
The Main Part. I Superglued 2 of these together for width. They are some kinda teflon I think made to withstand Acid! My Mate was quite surprised they would SuperGlue to anything! :D
(http://i910.photobucket.com/albums/ac304/malclbs/ArchBridge4_zpsn6z73sne.jpg)
The 3 Stages of the Build. After gluing 2 of the arches together stick them on a suitable sized Jenga block and Domino the top.
Cut up the Labels into strips and apply as many as you need to cover! Watch them as the sticky back labels don't like to stick to the arches!
All Three stages!
I still have to finish the second one with labels then paint them. A light coat of PVA will help the labels stick properly and the paint will finish the job. I hope!

Please post ideas I love to use my Domino surplus!! lol
Thank you both.
I am now dreading texturing inside the big Mausoleum and painting it! As I have already glued everything but the Grill in place!
I am an Idiot!! ;D
-
Here's my Mausoleum with a bit more added to it. The Portcullis Grill I decided should be able to slide up and down.
So I cut the Domino holding box sides to length and slipped the Plastic grill into the gap. A bit fiddly but I can now open and close it. o_o

Basically one side of the domino box. Where the lid slides in was a perfect groove for the portcullis. Just used my razor saw and a bit of by eye to then glue the 2 bits of wood into place! Then PVA sprinkly bits and that wonderful grass tuft stuff about and hey presto!
Also inside I found that if you cut some hairy string into short lengths and PVA it then paint it it breaks up the flooring inside the Tomb rather well! Don't think you can really see it here though? lol
-
Nicely done! :-* It puts me in mind of the jungle level in Diablo II.
-
Loving this thread, cant wait to see more great terrain :-*

Hi Malc,
Owen here. Following on from our conversation at Penkridge about scratch-building with Jenga blocks I found your thread and bloody hell super-inspired now! Lots of dominoes and Jenga blocks at home now being turned into a copy of this build but Frostgrave coloured. Once I've got enough painted to make it worthwhile photographing I'll get a thread of my own up rather than side-track this one.

I had a google and Wow temple levels!! I do get a bit of inspiration from watching let's plays on Youtube. I mainly look at the buildings and such. Thanks for that. :D

The Future Wars thread and Post Apocalyptic threads are gonna be bedazzled by your stuff! :o
Frostgrave as well! :D

Here's what I have in my Graveyard so far! I just added the GW walls and fencing. Plus my Archways at the back for some edging!
Dominoes, the boxes they came in and Jenga blocks abound! For the sarcophagus style grave blocks I simply snipped some of the dominos into rough halves and then filled the inner sections with hairy string cut to short lengths then pva glue was liberally applied over the string! Repeat till you have the depth of filling inside the grave you desire then paint!

I love the way you paint stone. It looks like it's been gathering filth and dust for thousands of years, which is exactly what I'm looking for in a haunted ruin.

lol lol Thank you! :D COuld be the amount of dust in the my house though!!
I do tend to stick to a paint scheme that is easy and I can reproduce very quickly. Most of the paintwork on my terrain is done by Testor Pots! £1 each from DIY shops. Then a bit of PVA and scatter! Give it some time and Dust will build up! ;D
Excellent work, as always. Love it! :-*
Thank you again Milord! I wanna see more of your own stuff soon! 8) :-*
I am awaiting another inspiration for myself.

Where did you get the grill? I think I could make one but the bolts would be tricky.
-
Where did you get the grill? I think I could make one but the bolts would be tricky.
It is from one of the Zvezda Castle plastic kits. They are 1/72nd scale and quite useful for 28mm.
Here is a google image search of some of the range.
https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=zvezda+plastic+models&client=firefox-b&biw=1252&bih=580&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&sqi=2&ved=0ahUKEwivv7zT5vTNAhVsC8AKHX9PCZwQ_AUIBygC#tbm=isch&q=zvezda+plastic+castle+models&imgrc=_
I used the same range to get my pallisade wooden wall from their Roman fort.
The grill is a Portcullis I wasn't using from a gate section. They used to sell all their sections in seperate packages as well as the complete Castles and Forts.
I would think they are still available maybe Ebay?

Hi All!
In light of a further Jaffa graveyard expansion. More graves added cos I was bored! lol
I recently decided that my number of Undead/Zombies and the like could do with a cheap boost!
I purchased a box of Mantic Ghouls. 20 Figs in all. They come in sprues of 2 Upper body, 2 Lower abdomen and legs variants. 3 Different heads (I only used the 2 bald variants!) and some extra hands holding odd weapons!
I was quite surprised at the range of models I could produce from them, just by varied torso twists as I glued them together and by moving the head tilts.
Not the best paintjobs in the world but they are scruffy Ghouls afterall and I can always go back at my leisure and touch up a bit!

Some of my favorite ghouls. Wish I had another box of them. :o
:) Yes! They are fairly good value. But I got mine at a further reduced price. Only £10 for the box of 20.
I have noticed a lot of the range on stalls at wargame shows here in the UK reduced in the past. I shall be keeping an eye open for other useful ones.
I like this set as you can use them fairly generically in any setting.
:D
-
£10 is a good price, they seem to be going on eBay at around £15 a box. They look really good.

A shame I missed this topic.
A wonderful lost city, magnificent scenery. It must be a blast to game extraordinary adventure in this place. Hollywood should learn from tabletop gamers ;D
Cheers

Hollywood should learn from tabletop gamers ;D
You mean like HG Wells? Who kind of started this whole thing. Or Peter Cushing?

Thanks for that! :)

I love a bit of HG Wells! :D Though hollywood have never really got the "War of the Worlds" quite right!
I do love the old 1953 version though, with Gene Barry! But the only other media version I ever cared for was Jeff Wayne's Album. :-*
I would hardly call my stuff "Visual Panarama" as you would find in most film modelling!
(Except maybe those cheapo "Asylum Productions" things! lol
-

I beg your pardon, sir.
I was speaking about the film industry of the 2010', that I find lacking ideas. I'm not in pulp gaming, but I found a lot of good scenarios in the Pulp forum, and a lot of great scenery like in this topic. Again, a great "bravo" to all those nice people who dedicate their time to give us such fine inspiration.
Best regards

No need to pardon at all! :D
I agree with you about most of the "Newer Movie industry" (Showing my age there! MOVIES! LOL)
I do like most of the new Marvel films though. Especially the ones With Cap America in! But I am and always have been a fan of Captain America and Captain Britain. Not a big X-man fan though.
But Yes! Your point is well taken. All of the threads on LAF are very inspirational and so much to look at you are bound to miss something! I know I do! o_o o_o
As you say thanks to all the great People who inspire us all!
:)

After my esteemed colleague further inspired me with his own efforts in his Frostgrave thread! (See earlier link up this thread! Coopdevil)
I have started my Building blocks and Cotton reels project to add further jumble to Jaffa!
I got a massive tub of 100 blocks from my local Tesco at £10 the tub! This has been somewhat denuded as you can see. But I slapped in my Jenga blocks so I knew where they were! :D Also in the bag is my collection of Brain-teaser wooden puzzles full of useful bits! More on these in a later posting!
My one man and two man tents! Tents made by gluing two traingular wooden blocks together then wrapping in labels to make the linen effect (When painted of course) add in two little plastic sticks and a bit of milliput!

Still need work on the tent flap! o_o
Cotton reel column rows. Made from the sides of Domino boxes and cotton reels in between. Labels applied and elastic bands to help glue.

Big block on the left is an After Eight Mint box.
I am still working my way through bits and pieces and having a lot of fun deciding what I want to do with the leftovers!

Excellent work! :-*

I've given in and ordered some blocks, it's all your fault!!!!! lol lol lol

Excellent work! :-*
Thanks for that. ;) though I Know they aren't much to look at at the moment. I just get started on a project and usually forget to photog the stuff to show how I did it!
You can tell I nearly forgot here! lol As I had started painting most of the bits.
I am Chaos! :D
I've given in and ordered some blocks, it's all your fault!!!!! lol lol lol
I hope you will post what you have done! 8) When you get them.
Feel free to stick in a link. I am always happy to see if I can knick Ideas! ;D

o_o Yes, the Jaffa bug has bit me, too. I am stockpiling cheap dominoes and wooden beads.

Very inspiring ! Thanks !
I got to go in the sewing room of my wife to steal some empty "columns" :D

Very Brave Man!! :o I salute you Sir! :D
I am now wondering if I put all my Jaffa stuff together? Would it be visible from orbit? lol
I know I can't fit it all on the table. So the garden may be an idea!!! 8)

Here are some of the bits I have been playing with plus some Dinos from Poundland with a tiny bit of repainting!
I wanted to make some Pallisade walls to add to my other bits. Purchased some kiddy colouring pencils 48 for £1 and some lollipop sticks 80 £1. You get three pieces of pallisade 4.5 inches long and 3 inches tall out of each pencil packet! Of course loads of lolli sticks left over!
They will of course be painted and possibly strengthened.

Dinos also £1 each. A tiny bit of painting around the head and in the mouth.

Fantastic! I really like how your tents turned out. ;)

Thanks! It was another what if!? ;)
Sorry I have not had a chance to post more WIP piccies yet! New Part-time job and my internet has not been great and still isn't! :-[
I will try to get pics of my new pallisade walls and Tanagram dock wooden puzzles up tomorrow as I am waiting for someone to take samples from my water supply for Lead content!!
As I said to my mates! Considering my Miniatures collection size! IRONIC! :D
-
Well almost as promised a bit of an update!
I must really thank Photobucket the website for piling on more ads! To make uploading even easier!
Someone invent a Sarcasm Detector!
Anyway.
Tanagram wooden puzzles given the treatment so I can use them as jetty or wharf style raised masonry!

I even covered the boxes they came in so as not to waste them.
And here is a comparison of the Zvedza on the right next to the larger kiddies pencils pallisade on the left. Still gotta grunge them up a bit with scatter and PVA.
Onward to sticking myself to plastic figs now!
-
Been a while and dark in the gaming room. So pictures have been hard to take.
But here we go!
An Altar made out of a wooden puzzle piece and painted black random stickers added plus plastic kit bits and screws for candles! Still some more to do but you get the idea.

The Pallisades I have been messing about with.
And just a piccy of some figs with my Mausoleum on a temple complex.
I hope to be finishing off a number of other bits for Jaffa soon and then laying out everything I possibly can across the table!
Room on the table of course allowing!
-
Okay, the screws for candles is damn brilliant.
-
I think it's all damn brilliant.
-
More great stuff. Can it all possibly fit on your table? :o

Thank you I wish I could post a bit more often. More stuff everyone might be interested in Malcy Towers!

I have my real doubts that I will actually be able to do it! Plus I hate to think what my back will feel like after! lol
-
Well I tried to upload some new Piccies of terrain. But my camera has decided to have a day of not focusing itself properly.
So only one picture of a new set of Jenga steps with added treasure boxes!
Multiple left over jenga blocks of varying size and calculator buttons with little necklace beads inside.
Plus of course those little pinboard pins to make suitable ornaments on the stairs.
I will try to upload the other ones I made as soon as my camera wants to play properly!
I still have to sprinkle this.
-
I was just thinking last night that it had been a while since we saw more of your lost city. Inspirational as always!

My other set of new steps with added side blocks in the middle of 2 new temple entrance doorways/portals underway.
Made from various wooden puzzle parts purchased from The Works! The arches are particularly useful!
-
Very cool! I like your new pieces. :D
-
Calculator buttons?! Absolutely BRILLIANT.
-
Thanks Guys! :)
Here are some piccies of my attempts at filling the table. I havent really got everything on and there are still adjustments to make! I am trying to make it playable and make some sense. A distinct lack of Shrubbery though at the moment.

Lots of little and medium sized bits in the boxes at the side of the table. Plus the bridges are probably gonna get shifted.

That looks completely awesome!
-
Wow :o That is wonderful please be sure to post pictures of games in process when your done. Love it :-*

Seeing it all together like that...wow! Inspiring stuff!

That looks fantastic, seems playable to me. might be time for a bigger table so we can see everything.

Maaaaaan, I've been following this thread for a long time - such a cool project! Truly impressive terrain created on a budget! Inspirational work!

Thank you Sunjester, Warlord frod and Wulfgar22. I will try to get some suitable pictures at least to re-enact game situations. Unfortunately as you can see, only one window in the game room and by the time we are playing lighting is an issue!
That looks fantastic, seems playable to me. might be time for a bigger table so we can see everything.
I would love to have a bigger table. The room wouldn't take it though. Well it would but We wouldn't then fit around the table! lol :D

Yep prob from your UK distributor.
New Stairway and Temple push on entrance undergoing WIP!

Again with the larger of my left over Jenga blocks. This time 3 more added to the top of the stairs to form a portal/enttrance.
Smaller Jenga blocks and wooden puzzle pieces form the sides and relief atop these bits and 2 pin board pins with the spheres on top are drilled and glued for a bit more decoration.
A lollipop stick on either side gives a bit of strength and further relief.
Milliput gives filling and a bit of detail but this will prob be lost under the paint and scatter when it's done.
-
An update on my WIP
Painted and awaiting the scatter treatment! As soon as I find where I hid the tub of scatter that is!
I may add handles to the suggestion of a door you see?
With a little lady for scale!
Still gotta do the 2 arched doorways from earlier in the thread. But the mood took me to get this one a stage further.
Please excuse the jumper lol

Painted the other two Temple Entrances and now I really should find my tub of Scatter!! lol

You can see the unpainted versions earlier in the thread. All I did was add some sticky labels before painting.

Missed your work since a few month. Shame.
Your city is impressive. No words :-*
Cheers

Inspired by your work, here is my lost city. I certainly do need some grander arches and stairways.

I'm playing a Darkest Africa themed game over the weekend so I'll try and get more pictures then.

Seen your work here and on your own thread as well! Brilliant! 8)
Nice to give ideas and you have given me a few from looking at your Frostgrave stuff.
These are the latest bits I started this weekend when I solved my Domino deficit.
Struck me that the existing bridges were a bit to new look looking so here we go! Partially collapsed ones.

The Lolly sticks are a bit out of keeping with the previous designs. I was going to put them underneath the Dominoes..But that was to fiddly trying to keep the section aligned. So inside the bridge itself was decided upon!
I have made 3 so far upto this point. Used a thin card base. Placed out the Dominoes as normal then removed selected ones before gluing the rest into place. Cut up the removed Dominoes with pincers then placed parts in the holes and then reinforced where neccesary with split Lolly sticks, milliput, card and double sided sticky pads.
When you are happy with the setting of the glue you can cut away the exposed card in the holes roughly fill with off cuts of lolly stick, card and milliput again then paint. I will upload when the next process of painting is done.

A link I found Ram Skull but no sign of the others.
http://www.ralparthaeurope.co.uk/shop/resin-scenery-c-57/?page=1&sort=20a
The ram Skull gate and Skull fountains are from Scotia Grendel and still appear to be available.

Thanks Chuck. I have seen them since at shows in the UK. They are very useful items for projects such as mine as they are beyond my sculpting expterise. ;)
I have a new load of pictures to take and post over the weekend! Hopefully all the guys will enjoy,

Here are some more Jenga Wall Ruin Sections. Plus the Bridge sections that have become very perilous indeed!

That looks really good, how many jenga sets have you gone through now? lol
Unfortunately the bigger cheapo Jenga blocks have not been seen again in the Works! :'(
I only have about 1 box left and am rationing them out.
But I will doubtless find some more rubbish I can use!
Thank you for the compliments
-
How much were the sets in the Works? I recently saw some jenga knock-offs in the local QD for about 4 quid a set.
-
How much were the sets in the Works? I recently saw some jenga knock-offs in the local QD for about 4 quid a set.
To be honest I can't remember how much they were when they first appeared in The Works?
I started picking them up when they had been reduced to £3 a set. Just to use as a proper Jenga set.
Then when Inspiration hit me they had been in deals 2 for 1 and finally £1 a set.
Poundworld, Poundland and a little shop in Birmingham also a £1 shop, have had smaller sets in. But The Works is the only place I saw these bigger block sets so cheap. They now have smaller sets at £3 each but I can get the same sized blocks for £1 elsewhere.
I am currently on a training course for another 2 weeks and I am looking forward to having a trawl around the cheapo shops in Birmingham sometime after to replenish my supplies for building. :D
-
I made these bits from Wooden Puzzle Parts, Dominoes and Parts of the Domino boxes.

The Walling is more Jenga and puzzle parts. The big block is Dominoes on a cardboard base. I also added cracks in ballpoint pen.
-
Great stuff!
-
Dominoes...! What a great idea; duly stolen.....
Thanks...!

Sorry guys but bye for now. :-X

Thanks for all the support guys. I have started a BlogSpot and will be uploading my work to there. Of course it will be all "Higgly Piggly" As I can't remember which piccies I used after so many posts. You may get to see ones you never did before.
But I will still Post Here probably in a new thread.
For now here is a picture of my raised walkways and the link to the Blog as it stands at the moment. Please forgive me as I haven't done this type of thing before.

Just realized I am in the same Photobucket dilema you are facing. Switched over to Imagur, so far it is working great!
Can't wait to see the continuation of your work with dominos and Jenga blocks!

Thanks Matt.
My opinion of Photobucket is not good. I was nowhere near their 2GB and to have this 3rd Party thing thrown at me. I left.
Blog was easier than learning new site for hosting. Plus No ads!!
Ads just got in the way of uploading. They said it didn't! OH YEAH! Not much!
Glad you took the guys advice for Imagur.
