Tiger miniatures has released some new miniaturesm this time with regular Afghans both in beehive and turcoman hat styles.

How does Tiger miniatures compare in style, quality and size to Renegade, Copplestone, Brigade Games and Artizan ( which all, in my mind, sit well next to each other).

Generally speaking:
Copplestone (depending on the range) are a little higher.
Foundry are smaller
Artizan I do not know since I do not have any. I am expecting some and I will advise asap.
Brigade: I compared my Greek general on foot (tiger) again von Lettow (brigade) and I found them compatible in size and style. In fact I do you have a lot of colonials from Brigade and few from Tiger, but I do mix them in the same unit and I am happy.
Sorry no photos. I still have not tried to learn to photo my figures.

The figures do look very nice indeed ,good work Tiger!!!!!!
However in regards to the Colour picture ... lol ...perhaps not a good idea in future to make a obvious real effort in making a new line ,of sensational figures...And then get your 2 year old son drink on cider and tell him to paint up some figures for the web site... lol

Nice sculpts, but I have a big problem with the Turcomans. Why go to all the trouble of sculpting such nice minis, when you top them off with big bushy beards? Turcomans (ie Turkmen) don't grow big beards, because they can't - they are an Asiatic ethnic group in the same way that the Mongols are. You wouldn't see a mini of Genghis Khan with a big beard, so you shouldn't see one of a northern Afghan. This goes the same for Uzbeks - Afghanistan is a patchwork of ethnicities, but the default state for minis is to whack on a big beard Taliban style. I don't understand why, it's a real shame. Right now, you'd need to do a fair bit of converting to get these minis is a state to use. Sorry, Tiger.

You forgot that these people do hire a large number of mercenaries from other tribes.
However these people have "a Turcoman" uniform and they are not Turcomans. You may use them as Persians [Their regular army had same uniforms] or even Russians in Turcoman uniform]
By the way: These figures are suitable for BoB and Pulp games.
Should we cross post this thread to the other boards as well?

Can anyone direct me to a historical source to why there are Afghans in turkish outfit? I know there was some influx of hand weapons from turkey to Afghanistan during and after the great war but I have not heard of uniforms or heavier equipment than Mausers.

Are those Turkish uniforms? I'm not an expert on the subject but to me they look similar to the uniforms the Afghan regular army had been wearing since the 1860s/1870s (I forget exactly when Sher Ali's regular army came about). Those were based on British uniforms of the time, and some may have even been old Indian surplus.
