Title: All Quiet on the Martian Front
Post by: dexter on 19 February 2015, 05:29:23 PM
Here are some pic of my 1st painted All quiet on the Martian Front models.
I'm posting them here because ;
1 It is a weird war.
2 It's set in 1912 so it's post Victorian and closer to WW1 .
3 I asked a moderator and he suggested it might go here.

Enjoy the pics.

The tripod has a red flashing led in its dome.

The red tank is for use in areas covered in red weed.

Nothing yet, just stored away in the brain.  But probably something sci-fi like DZC needing urban camo (ie greys with hard rectangular shapes).

There's a guy already on the forum who posted a 'How to illuminate your Tripods' thread. Or it might have been over at TMP.

It might be fun to name your tanks after famous artists of the day, as they were often employed to create camouflage patterns during the war.

I didn't know that ,it's interesting, especially as i was contemplating a Mondrian style 'camouflage'.Mondrian would be a good name for a tank.

yup, modernist painters really helped advance camouflage technology during the 1st and second world wars.

a david bomburg style one would be good, the bomburg bombardier!  :D

A few more bits painted up for All Quiet.

Some more Mk II tanks

The next tank is loosely based on Robert Delaunay's cubist work.

Who knows how the Martians see things. This means you can try some really experimental camouflage.

Here are a few pics from our 1st game.

The Martians line up , to win they have to get at least two pods off the table.(there's a additional pod just out of shot)
(http://i625.photobucket.com/albums/tt336/paul1066_photos/aq1_zpsjdd6wnaf.jpg) (http://s625.photobucket.com/user/paul1066_photos/media/aq1_zpsjdd6wnaf.jpg.html)

The Martians advance and start to cross the bridges
(http://i625.photobucket.com/albums/tt336/paul1066_photos/aq4%20xingbridge_zpsqbc6ytfy.jpg) (http://s625.photobucket.com/user/paul1066_photos/media/aq4%20xingbridge_zpsqbc6ytfy.jpg.html)

The human tanks charge forward with all guns blazing
(http://i625.photobucket.com/albums/tt336/paul1066_photos/aq3%20advancing_zpslj8ltr5k.jpg) (http://s625.photobucket.com/user/paul1066_photos/media/aq3%20advancing_zpslj8ltr5k.jpg.html)

The lead pod explodes
(http://i625.photobucket.com/albums/tt336/paul1066_photos/aq5%20bang_zps5v8blqwz.jpg) (http://s625.photobucket.com/user/paul1066_photos/media/aq5%20bang_zps5v8blqwz.jpg.html)

The humans lose a squad of tanks and intantry but the Martian bad luck continues as a pod on the other other bridge also explodes and takes a second tripod with it.
(http://i625.photobucket.com/albums/tt336/paul1066_photos/aq7_zps7au8qfsq.jpg) (http://s625.photobucket.com/user/paul1066_photos/media/aq7_zps7au8qfsq.jpg.html)
The Martian drones swarm forward and destroy two heavy human tanks and some rough riders.

At this point in the game the Martian had two tripods close enough to make it off table on the human side. Victory would certainly come to who ever gained initiative next.  The humans succeeded and again managed to destroy another tripod as the slaver controlling the drones exploded. drone
(http://i625.photobucket.com/albums/tt336/paul1066_photos/aq10_zpskf453i6n.jpg) (http://s625.photobucket.com/user/paul1066_photos/media/aq10_zpskf453i6n.jpg.html)

The Martians suffered in this game by getting bottle necked at both bridges ,they didn't fancy crossing the river directly. They weren't helped by Lady Luck who clearly favoured the humans all night, their dice rolling was spectacular . The other thing we learned in this game was just how dangerous machine guns are .

Bomberg Tanks is great!

(if you ever do some Americans, you could rock an early style jackson pollock, pre drip.)

All the tanks have been American so far.
Do you have any suggestions as to which  early Pollock might be suitable? I'm only familiar with his later work.

Something like this
(http://uploads0.wikiart.org/images/jackson-pollock/mural.jpg)

It's not historically accurate but i think a tank in these sort of bright colors might look amazing.

I had a go at reproducing a Pollock but it didn't go very well. I decided to use the top section of the Pollock MK III as wreckage.

Maybe a black or brown wash over it might tie it together with some edge highlighting?

I like it, but i think a wash to tie it together might help :) Glad to see you're sticking with the abstraction theme!

It does have a watered down black wash and in reality it doesn't look as bright or clean .I may try and take another photo that doesnt look so washed out with light

This is my Clamp tank ,the camo pattern is based on Thornton Willis's 'Juggernaut' It's a modern piece but i think it fit in .

(http://i625.photobucket.com/albums/tt336/paul1066_photos/clamp_zpsz5mhkiko.jpg) (http://s625.photobucket.com/user/paul1066_photos/media/clamp_zpsz5mhkiko.jpg.html)(http://i625.photobucket.com/albums/tt336/paul1066_photos/clamp2_zpsooqsvmqs.jpg) (http://s625.photobucket.com/user/paul1066_photos/media/clamp2_zpsooqsvmqs.jpg.html)

Also here's my Red Martian ,he's not completed he still needs a skull necklace and some skeletonal bodies for his head. But he's ready for tomorrow's game. The Red Martian is supposed to have a special dazzle weapon which is why the model has a central orange led and also a flickering yellow one above it.
